Wears Valley Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Secluded cabin yet near everything! Cabin situated on 5 acres on Little Roundtop Way. 10 to 30 minutes to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville, DollyWood, and Townsend entry to Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Cades Cove. Cabin was listed past several years on luxury cabin site by rental company. Rented very well but was poorly treated by some guests. This is our home away from home we simply ask you treat it with respect.

Real log cabin; no fake logs here! If you choose to hang out for a day plenty of room to roam with short walking trails. Large kitchen, dining area and laundry room make it easy to 'stay home'. Can stock up on supplies in Wears Valley or Townsend 5 to 8 minutes away or travel 15-20 minutes to more elaborate shopping in Pigeon Forge.

If you like a 'busy' vacation every day filled with different attractions or if you prefer to 'chill out' and relax in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains this is your place.

2 bedrooms on main floor; 3rd bedroom in loft area with lots of space and it's own bathroom and a 4th bedroom downstairs off the game room. Satellite TV on main floor in great room and one bedroom and in downstairs game room and loft bedroom. Hot tub on gorgeous deck off main floor.

Keywords: Wears Valley Cabin on 5 private acres, less than 10 minutes from Smoky Mountain National Park Townsend entry to Cades Cove; 20 minutes to Pigeon Forge, 25 minutes Gatlinburg, 25 minutes to Sevierville; within 30 minutes of most major attractions in Great Smoky Mountains! About Tina

My wife and I are small business owners. We are involved in a financial planning business, rental property and even a sewing/monogramming business. We are both CPA's and I also am a CFP. We have four children ages 7 to 15. Life revolves around family for us. Our children are home schooled, we enjoy outdoor activities, sports and are active in our church. Primary hobbies are hunting, fishing, sewing and watching football.

Tina purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Tina chose Wears Valley

Our family has vacationed in this area for over 20 years and extensively for the past 5 years. Our children love the area and the attractions. We frequent Cades Cove, DollyWood, Sevierville Knife Works, just to mention a few. However, we also enjoy the privacy and seclusion of the property. We love staying 'at home' playing ping pong, pool and just enjoying outdoors in this beautiful area. My wife and I began visiting in the Wears Valley region in the early 80's and discussed buying property for years. We finally took the plunge in 2008 and purchased our own property after years of renting other cabins. We vacation at least one full week here every year.

What makes this cabin unique

Location is a major benefit. You can reach most major attractions in the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Wears Valley area in less than 30 minutes depending on traffic. You are close enough to be convenient but also enjoy privacy from traffic and other distractions. We love to visit in the 'off season' between November and January. The whole area is decorated for Christmas. There are fewer people, great shopping, and attractions are not as crowded. An added bonus is occassional snow makes the entire area look like a giant postcard. We are from further south so this is a real treat. However, summer is also great with many water park attractions. Sevierville has an indoor water park so you can have fun in the water with snow on the ground outside. This cabin is large. Often living areas are small even though a cabin may sleep 8 to 10. Our cabin has larger bedrooms and living areas and is about 3,000 square feet versus 1,300 to 1,500 square feet often found in other cabins that sleep 8 to 10 people.

Loved our stay here!

  • 5 of 5
I enjoyed our stay here immensely. It is extremely private & away from it all. There is more space here than you could imagine- making it wonderful for large groups. The price was extremely good for the size of the place. We will definitely consider this place in the future.

I do want to say that with every place I have stayed- I find some things lacking in the kitchen. This is true EVERYWHERE I go- so I didn't deduct off the rating. Bring a good knife or two with you & a cutting board. I also always bring a large cooking skillet & was thankful I did. Also, you may want to bring a comfortable portable chair for the porch or the firepit.

You are in the mountains so you do need to be mindful that you will have occasional spiders in the place.

Has potential but our stay was a disaster

  • 1 of 5
This is a nice home in a secluded area and it has a lot of potential. But we had so many problems during our stay that we would never recommend it.
It started out okay with just minor inconveniences when we arrived Sunday- the dryer and ice maker were not working. The repairman came and fixed the dryer on Tuesday afternoon but the ice maker never did work for our stay and we realized with the first load of laundry we did that the drainage hose was not properly connected to drain or plugged because it ended up flooding the whole laundry room which was a mess to clean up. This continued through our stay so our only option was to stand there while the washer ran and hold the tubing in or clean up a mess. Owner was notified.
We had noticed the first night that there were a lot of bats flying out from above the deck at night. The next day and several times a day for the rest of our stay we found large piles of bat droppings inside the house, between the living room and kitchen. The owner was notified and did immediately call to have somebody come out. Unfortunately there wasn't anything that could be done during our stay except trap them inside and wait for them to die which resulted in loud screeching each night when they tried to leave and of course we had to clean up bat droppings several times a day for the rest of the week.
The fire pit would be great - except it's nothing like the pictures. The wood seats are completely rotted with nails sticking out of them so you can't sit on them at all.
The windows were filthy and covered with thick cobwebs. I asked if this could be addressed when they came to fix the dryer (she had said the housecleaner was coming with the repairman) but this wasn't done.
There was a large gap in the downstairs doors were the wood had rotted away. This was alarming considering we were surrounded by wilderness. We were told doors were being replaced but not until after we left.
The kitchen was okay, but far from decently equipped. There were enough plates, bowls, glasses and silverware but no cutting board and 1 frying pan. It's difficult to cook breakfast for a group with 1 pan. There were also no grill utensils available, which we didn't realize until after we had the charcoal hot and were ready to put the food on.
With all of the problems we encountered, I requested a refund of 1/2 what we paid. Owner refused and gave us 1 night refund. Not nearly enough for what we dealt with

Owner's Response: This reservation was a referral from another VRBO who had double booked. In my first conversation with the guest she was whiny and complaining about how unfair it was that they had to give up so much square footage with our cabin. When I mentioned our cabin was over 3000 square feet her response was "oh. But it has one bath less". I felt at the time she was looking for us to discount further to compensate her for being bumped out of her original reservation. I also had an uneasy feeling that I might regret arranging this reservation. I was right.

Lots of little things did go wrong during this week. We had almost two months of back to back reservations with little problem until then. The wrong dryer part came in and had to be reordered so they were without a dryer 2 days before the repair could be made. The ice maker replacement had been ordered but not yet received. The guests claimed they bought $20 of ice during the week. I am not sure the refrigerator ice maker could have kept up with that demand but I offered to reimbursement them as soon as she made that claim.

We cannot control wildlife but I did have a specialist in bats come twice during their stay to try to resolve the problem. I would have called the exterminator had I known the bats did not find their way out that night. I should not have assumed the problem was resolved because I heard nothing further of the issue from the guests. As to the kitchen supplies, we recently replaced both frying pans and grill utensils. Grill utensils in particular seem to get lost on a regular basis. I suspect they may be left outside and taken away by bears because of the food smell. Nevertheless, I always send our cleaning lady to replace anything the guests report they need that is not there. I did not hear about the pots and utensils until she emailed me after their stay to complain.

It was time to clean the windows. Unfortunately, they are so high, it is not a routine cleaning job and requires someone with special equipment. The guest seemed to expect the cleaning lady to somehow climb up there while she waited on dryer repairman.

Bottom line is all kinds of little things seemed to go wrong during their stay. I try to compensate my guests for inconveniences without their having to ask. But these guests wanted to end up paying 3 nights with 4 free. I felt these guests had a bad attitude from the beginning and concluded nothing I could have done would really satisfy them in the end.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 8, including 2 small children enjoyed our stay at your wonderful cabin. Plenty of room for all of us. We had a small blow up pool for the kids and they played in it while we used the hot tub. The kitchen was roomy enough for several of us to work on meals, we cooked all but one in the cabin, and the dining room table fit us all. And of course being able to look out the wall of windows while we were cooking and eating was fantastic. We could see the mountains beyond the trees. Having a w/d is a plus with children. Just 2 hours in the cabin and there was a bear in the backyard! And the kids had so much fun finding lizards in the afternoon sun. The owners were very helpful in finding vegetable stands and medical assistance. The cabin is just off Wears Valley Road which has many neat little shops on it, complete with a little grocery store that carries the basics so we didn't have to travel clear to Pigeon Forge to get milk. The cabin is closer to Townsend and going through it to get to the park was so much easier, less traffic. When in Townsend be sure to check out the Railroad Museum and Captain Dave's Wood Carvings.
A couple of caveats, we had a small issue with bats which left droppings on the deck that needed sweeping each time we used it. But the owners called pest control which arrived that same day.
We got into the cabin early which was wonderful after traveling all night, but it didn't seem to us that the floors had been swept/scrubbed, but everything else was spic and span clean.
Beside that, the owners could not have been more helpful, kind and considerate. And since I have a little space left, the BEDS! You have to run and jump to get into them but it is well worth the effort. Everyone slept well, even the extremely tired parents of 2 young children. And S'mores over the grill are always a sweet treat. We choose not to use the fire pit because the log seats were a little rough. Thanks for a great vacation.

Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful cabin for a weekend getaway. The cabin is very spacious with a lot of things for the kids and adults to do. The pool table and ping pong table are perfect for the entire family to have fun. The huge porch is ideal for relaxing and enjoying the scenic view as well. The owners were very helpful and extremely courteous. They were more than flexible to accomodate our needs for our stay. We had a wonderful time and will definitely visit again. What a blessing to share great family time in such a perfect setting!

mid-June 12 stay

  • 5 of 5
Nothing but good things to say about this cabin. We stayed for 7 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Unlike the majority of other cabins in this region you get complete serentiy and solitude. Not once did we hear another person while we were relaxing on the porch. There is another cabin close by but we never knew they were there. I suppose if you get rowdy neighbors it may be a bother, but they would have to be pretty loud. The drive to Pigeon Forge took about 20 minutes, Gatlinburg was another 10 but it was nice laying our heads down away from the crowd. The cabin itself was great. I'm sure there are more luxurious cabins out there but we were in no way roughing it. I've never rented a cabin in the Smoky Mountains before, but I'd bet that this is the best bang for the buck around. If you're doing endless searches for a cabin in the Smokies like I did, give some serious thought to this place. I was nervous when I booked it because it had no reviews but I'm glad I did. That's why I feel like I have to post this review, it may be the best kept secret in cabin rentals. If you're looking for a place with easy access to all that East Tennessee has to offer while staying away from the B.S. that the "log cabin communities" will give you, this is it. If you're worried about the damage that was done by past renters, don't. The only thing we noticed was the stains on the pool table felt, but we still played plenty of games and had a great time. If I ever hear of any of my friends planning on visiting this area I will be recommending this cabin to them.
