A Week in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Casa Vela was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us. The entire family of ten adults and two children spent a week there to celebrate the patriarch’s 80th birthday. The casa and the environs met the needs of the oldest, 80 years old, to the youngest, 6 years old. The beaches were minutes away, we slept to the sound of breaking surf, and two kitchens gave us plenty of space for meal preparation. Grocery stores and restaurants were a short drive. The layout of the casa provided everyone with privacy but we spent hours on the patio eating, talking, sunning and watching the kids play in the pool. Another amazing piece of our time at Casa Vela was our host. Alex paid meticulous attention to our needs; one morning providing us with fresh pastries and bread after the town’s electricity went out. The time we had at Casa Vela was perfect; we highly recommend it to anyone interested in a vacation in paradise.

Perfect house for a multi-family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The house was exactly as described and as pictured. The grounds are great, the large dining table outside was awesome (we ate every meal there), short walk to the beach, the treehouse was a wonderful place to relax. There were so many areas outside to spend time that even with our party of 14 we still all felt like we had ample space. The house/grounds were very clean. Alex was awesome! We needed extra towels and he came right over. He took time out of his day to escort us to the Gozalandia waterfall in San Sabastian - and arranged for someone to provide a guided tour for us. Going to the waterfall was one of the highlights of the trip.

The cafe across the street was great as was The Eclipse restaurant at Villa Montana (at Shacks Beach). We spent a lot of time at Jobos Beach - a 10 min walk from the house. There are a couple of good bars/restaurants there. Jobos is a popular beach for locals and tourists so there is a decent amount of trash that gets left behind on the beach. This garbage winds up drifting all the way up to Shacks Beach. This was the only disappointing part of the vacation here. We did not experience this at any of the other beaches we traveled to.

I recommend doing the horseback riding tour at Shacks Beach as well as driving to Crash Boat Beach (about 15 mins drive). And, a trip to Rincon to see the surfers is also required. You may want to consider a trip to Wilderness Beach also to watch the surfers. But, the road in can be muddy and possibly difficult to navigate without a four wheel drive vehicle. We got only halfway down the road in our mini-van. We just walked the rest of the way on the beach to where surfers congregate.

We had a great time at the house. We've rented many houses/condos over the years and never had a host this responsive and generous with his time! I definitely recommend this house!

For the person who wants it ALL

  • 5 of 5

First of all, I read every single review on this property at least four or five times in full and appreciated the detailed ones. So I will return the favor and do the same.

After Alex and I agreed on the price and the terms I sent him the deposit per our conversation. Alex always responded to every email within 24 hours. Which is very impressive considering he has a very important full-time job as well.

Upon arrival my wife and I were met by Alex is groundskeeper who had been there since 7 AM preparing the property for arrival. We arrived around 8 PM Tuesday night. He showed us around the house and showed key features of the property. I gave this gentleman the remainder of the balance and it was off to dinner for my wife and I.

Jennifer and I work in network marketing and where is giving this house to our top producers as a gift for the week. They all arrived the next day and everyone was immediately in awe.

We had piña colada's waiting for them by the pool with Jimmy Buffett playing on the supplied loudspeaker. They could not have had a better arrival if they went to sandals.

The walk to the beach was effortless down a very well-maintained path along the wall of the property to a very secluded private like feeling of the beach.

During our stay Alex went out of his way to arrange surfing lessons by a well known surfing legend. The amazing surfing location was a short 10 minute walk from the house.

Alex also guided us to an amazing snorkel location also less than a half a mile from the house. Many brought gear with them but he rented us some extra gear at a very reasonable rate. Alex also arranged the rentals of the surfboards and boogie boards for us.

We wanted to treat our guests to a great dinner but really did not want to spend $200 a person at the local fine dining restaurant so Alex arranged for an amazing local catering company to bring dinner to the house. Not only did he arrange everything, he took care of their payment. we just gave him cash at the end of the trip for all of the extras.

The house was very nice and suited our needs. However we spent very little time inside as the outside is an absolute oasis. I highly recommend this property and this owner and we will return!

One piece of advice on your travel is to use an on-site car rental company in the airport. We used Dollar offsite and was a 2.5 hour hassle. Pay the extra couple bucks. Well worth it to get to paradise quicker!!

Premier Service/Accomodations in Surfer's Paradise

  • 5 of 5

First and foremost, the property owner, Alex, is second to none when it comes to dedication to his clients. As a group of 14 on a surf trip, we had a change in schedule, and Alex was fully engaged to help us find additional accommodations outside of Casa Vela. Any worry, any concern, was fully addressed by Alex and his low-key, easy going personality. His staff is also excellent in that they take meticulous care of this beautiful property.

Speaking of the property, it is as advertised and more. After spending a week in and around the Isabela area, there is not better property - it has it all. Not to mention, the beautiful decor, meticulous attention to detail, and cleanliness was unparalleled. Even with such oceanic and beach beauty steps away down the beach path, we found ourselves mesmerized by the awesomeness of the property - full grill out area and large table for dinner gatherings - tree house with hammocks for an afternoon nap, porches for sunning out with amazing views, and of course the pool to cool off during the day.

The property itself is very spacious, offering two full kitchens and plenty of room in the bedrooms to feel comfortable. In addition, the property is within walking distance to good local food and beverage including a great breakfast spot steps away, and bars featuring fun nightlife.

We are so very appreciative of the way Alex went above and beyond for us, providing us with surfboard rentals, giving us the inside scoop on surf instructors and surf spots, and being but a phone call away. Any question we had, any guidance we needed, Alex responded immediately.

Thank you so much Alex (and staff) for making this a trip we will never forget.

Fantastic Holiday, Wonderful House for Family

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of 17 stayed at Casa Vela for a week over the Christmas holiday. Nearly everything about our stay at the house was superlative.

Despite a slightly delayed arrival, Alex had the house in pristine condition and was waiting for us to show us around. His responsiveness throughout the week was impeccable. When we came up empty on a deep sea fishing charter, he came through twice with fresh lobster and fresh snapper and mahi mahi at a great price. The kitchens, provided utensils, and outdoor grill were sufficient to enable us to cook family feasts every night. When we wanted something special, Alex connected us to a caterer for a prepared-on-site dinner and a wonderful musician to provide ambiance. Each of Alex's suggestions proved to be spot on - Crash Boat beach (10 minute drive) is a wonderful beach and a great place for kids to swim; One-Ten Thai is a great local restaurant; Gozalandia Falls is worth the trip; he even helped us find a church to attend on Christmas morning.

The pictures of the house posted here (and elsewhere online) seem perhaps too good to be true, but we found them very representative. The pools and the entirety of the outdoor space are magnificent, and allowed us to spend nearly all of our time in the same vicinity. The outdoor dining table made dinners together, even for our sizable group, perfectly manageable.

Inside, the house is laid out to accommodate large groups, with each of the six bedrooms set up for multiple people. Our party had four young children and 13 adults, and we had no problem finding everyone a place. While I wouldn't describe the finishes as "high-end," we tended to find everything we needed close at hand (coffee makers, large pots for steaming lobsters, juicers to turn limes into cocktails, grill utensils). When something was in short supply (towels and TP were a little low at first), Alex was quick to provide more.

The location is great as well. The house felt private and secure. But .25 miles up the road you can find bars and restaurants and Jobos Beach. The ocean is close enough to hear the surf over morning coffee, but not so close the kids could wander towards it. You won't swim much right in front of the house, but it's a wonderful private beach if you just want to be close to the water. There is a nice 200 yard path to get there from the house.

All in all, we couldn't have been happier with our stay. A return trip is already on our mind.

A well represented house, great location

  • 5 of 5

Casa Vela is very well represented in the photos. It is exactly as it appears. Since we spent the majority of our time outside, the landscaping and pool areas were really what is fantastic about this house. Lots of sitting spaces so groups can spread out. The bedding (both quality and comfort level) leaves a little to be desired, but that could easily be solved by packing your own pillows. Next time we would do that. I would also pack my own kitchen knife. As is the case with most rentals, the quality of the cooking knives is poor, and for us, we had many cooks in our group who struggled with the knives when we brought fresh fish home. These are little things though that aren't really a big deal at all. Our stay in the house was still fantastic and like I said, for large groups, a perfect setting. Two kitchens, many spacious bedrooms, so many bathrooms which is key with large groups. We were 13. (10 adults, 3 children) However the house could have comfortably slept many more. But the winner for us was the exterior spaces. Just as comfortable and gorgeous as pictured.

The location is great, very close to the nice beaches and great food and restaurant options around. Cafe literally across the street was really charming and delicious. And there is a convenience/gas mart 1 minute away. That was helpful. There is also a great paved walking/biking/running trail just down the street. The beach the house itself is on (3-4 minute walk down a clear and easy path for those with no mobility issues) is not really one you'd swim on, but very nice for walks, etc. We enjoyed Crashboat Beach for swimming and beach days, and it was a mere 10-15 minute drive. We had no trouble finding the house, and it is a quiet spot, less some car traffic, but very minimal and nothing that disturbs your sleep.

Alex was a great host, very available during our visit.

The house was great value, clean and memorable. We would certainly return without hesitation.
