BEAUTIFUL RESIDENCE IN HISTORIC CENTER

Montepulciano Townhome Rental Photos and Description

Townhome, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This beautifully restored and professionally decorated residence is located within the walled city, the historic center of Montepulciano, an important hill town in southern Tuscany.

Situated on a small lane just off the main commercial street of the town, 'the Corso,' it offers ready access to the cultural life of the town (see our website for details http://www3.sympatico.ca/amcquillan/index.htm), restaurants, coffee bars, shops and the wine bars, tasting rooms and cellars where you can sample the famous wines of Montepulciano, yet the apartment is so quite that an alarm clock will be needed if you don't want to sleep away the morning.

At the foot of the lane is a small plaza overlooking the medieval wall of the town with a breathtaking panoramic view of vineyard-covered hillsides, clusters of farmhouses and the Lake of Chiusi in the near distance, Lake Trasimino and the town of Cortona in the middle-distance and the spectacular Appenine Mountains beyond.

The precise age of the original house is not known but the cellar contains the town's only remaining ceramics kiln and certainly predates the 17th century addition that is now a separate residence for the owners.

Although completely renovated, the residence retains its original character - hand-hewn chestnut beams, handmade terra-cotta floors, travertine marble door frames set in thick stone walls with panelled wood doors and hand forged iron hardware. Even the copper and wrought iron light fixtures were made by a local craftsman. The bathrooms and kitchen are thoroughly modern and equipped to meet the expectations of discriminating visitors. There is also a central heating system and a working fireplace for the comfort and pleasure of winter visitors.

Lovely, quiet accommodations

  • 4 of 5
4 of us stayed for a week, and enjoyed the privacy of the accommodations, which were very clean and well stocked. The lack of windows overlooking something other than walls disappointed though. We were steps away from a lovely view, but never found time to take our wine there. It is a very quiet town, things close down in the evenings. A good place to escape, not to find action! Owners are great, recommend it highly.

Perfect for 2 couples!

  • 5 of 5
This apartment was everything the other reviews say as well it is as beautiful as the pictures show it to be. It is perfect for 2 couples as you each have a separate space and your own bathroom. The kitchen is perfectly equipped to have your own happy hours before dinner. The town is quite small though and at night it is very very quiet which is great if you want to relax after a long day touring around which is what we did. It is a very good location to see the other towns of tuscany, everything is about 2 hours max away from you!

A lovely taste of life in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5
This was our second time to stay at this apartment, and we hope to be back again, soon. The location within the city walls allows you to explore the nooks and crannies of Montepulciano at any time of day or night - and the view from the piazza nearby is breathtaking. There is free parking just outside the city walls (less than 5 minute walk), making the apartment an excellent base to explore the cities nearby. It is beautifully finished, the bedrooms roomy and comfortable and the kitchen is perfect for cooking meals using ingredients from the shops within walking distance. Owners are knowledgeable, helpful and charming.

Montepulciano

  • 3 of 5
We booked this property for 1 week in April, 2014. Mum and Dad with daughter, husband and their 6 mth old baby. Cot and bedclothes provided free of charge. All had our own space and privacy.

Wonderful location in the middle of the village. Free parking at the bottom of the hill. Owners very helpful, supplied us with lots of information before we arrived.

Montepulciano is a delightful village with plenty of restaurants, cafes and ready access to many other historic villages within 30 mins drive. Countryside sensational.

Kitchen a plus when travelling for several weeks (from Australia) and wanting to cook at 'home' and relax.

However, given the inclement weather over the few days we were there it was disappointing the fireplace was not in use (didn’t appear to have been used and no wood or utensils provided). Thermostat heating was more than adequate though.

Bathrooms on seperate floors to bedrooms was a little inconvenient. Given this is a premium wine district, a decent set of wine glasses would have been appreciated. Would occasionally have liked to listen to music or watch television news in the evening however the ‘entertainment’ system was very outdated and needed replacing.

Booked for 5 nights, paid for 7, stayed 4.

Owner's Response: Frankly we find this review puzzling. We rent by the week not by the night. The fireplace works and has certainly been used by other guests. We clearly say in our listing that we do not provide firewood, but small bundles can be purchased in a local supermarket. We have chosen not to provide a music system as there are so many different formats and most travelers now carry their own ipod or other music device and yes, the TV is old but it works perfectly well. We have not replaced it with a new flat screen model as so few visitors actually watch TV while they are here. And those who do, don't watch it very long as broadcast programming is all in Italian (they even dub American films and TV shows). These guests were traveling with a young baby, so perhaps they spent more time in the apartment than most visitors. But, that said, we have decided to replace the old TV with a new 'smart' TV. The broadcast material will still be in Italian but future guests can download or stream content from their own computers or from the internet.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5
We chose this rental based on its location directly within Montepulciano where we could easily walk to any destination within the town. With many options for tasting some of the best Nobile and Brunello wines available, walking is the preferred travel method! Montepulciano was also a great location to make day trips to other interesting towns such as Siena, Montalcino, Orvieto and Rome (by train). The unit was clean and comfortable for the four of us and we could not have asked for anything more. Our hosts, Royce and Aidan, were very accomodating and helpful. They also provided a very useful list of things to do and places to eat that we referred to frequently. The rental process was also simple and efficient.

Bottom line is that when we return to Montepulciano we would rent this same unit!

Montepulciano Sept 12

When looking for a villa, we (4 girls) wanted to be "in a town" located near places for easy day visits. We just got lucky! When booking confirmed, Aidan and Royce sent pages of information about what to do, where to eat, and how to get around! We really didn't need Rick Steves, etc! First - the place was perfect. Two large bedrooms, two bathrooms (one shower, one tub),well equipped kitchen and den. Nights were quiet and great mattresses! Very easy to get around in town (after we got our bearings) and the people so nice! Our favorite day trips - Seinna, Montelcino, Florence, Pienza and an abbey. Montepulciano also a great tuscan town with lots to do and great food and wine! Royce and Aidan were so very helpful - recommendations on what to do and where to eat and especially getting us from A to B! We saved much time following their advice. Delightful people. We hope they visit us in Charleston, SC! We loved this trip so much (and have been traveling together for 14 years) - we want to go back and stay in same place and do different towns!
