About The Owner
When we first moved to Halifax, we were in awe of it's natural beauty and still are. We bought and rennovated a home in Ferguson's Cove and fell in love with the view, the area and the people there. Just down the road from our old house was a piece of land, located directly across the water from the lighthouse. We thought would be the ideal place to build a home. A few years later, we found ourselves sitting on our deck, feeding our dear friend Sigmund the seagull, watching whales feed and the boats go by. We hope that you enjoy the house, the view and above all the feeling.
The Owner purchased this house in 1995

What makes this house unique
Meet Sigmund The Seagull
Sigmund has lived with us in Ferguson’s Cove for over 20 years. He was only 2 years old when we finished construction of the house. His gray feathers were coming in showing he had just matured from an adolescent bird. He came to visit us from our old home down the street, and he never left.
Sigmund’s favorite spot to sit is on the left facing deck post, where he watches the water and eats tid bits that we feed him. While they may be left overs and dog chow to us, it is food for for a king to him! His favorite meal is left over fish and chips. Many people told us that if you feed one seagull, you will have a hundred show up to dine. This is not the case as Sigmund only allows his mate, Suzie and his family to share a meal with him on the deck!
He's married 14 years now and he and Suzie make a really cute couple. Sigmund had a son last year, whom we named him Freud, even though he doesn’t look overly bright! They have babies every year and move them along. Sigmund stays here year round, but Suzie flies off and returns in the spring. You would laugh to see the site of Suzie's home coming as she is allowed to eat his food and he keeps his wing overtop of her so she isn’t cold.
Sigmund and Suzie have a large family now, and every year they visit for a week, until he has had enough of their free-loading and he chases them off! What a rabble! He also tries to move the Bald Eagles and the osprey that come to nest – what a brave bird he is!
**Feel free to give him some food (there is a jar of dog chow on the kitchen counter for him) and if you wish, fill the bird bath with water, sit back and be entertained as a mixture of birds and Sigmund can put on quite the show!**
