Overview

Bijou Acres Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Den, 1 Bath, (2 adults) 2 small children OK

The BLUELEAF cabin is named after the handmade artisan tiles that decorate the kitchen area. Cook on the very cool induction cooktop: or start a stew in an original 50's CROCK-POT. Roast a herb chicken breast for two in the microwave/convection oven or make a panini or pancakes on the griddle. Sit by the wood fire in a sunken living room decorated with modern and mid-century furniture. Warm colors , lighting, plenty of indoor space for lounging or cuddling up to watch a Netflix movie, or listen to your favorite tunes over the BOSE sound system. Retire to a five star king size bed, with custom beddings, an electric fireplace will keep you toasty thru the coldest of winter nights. Enjoy a book and a bath by candlelight in your tile accented, pine wood wrapped bathroom. Plenty of room for two single adults: a premium queen sleeper folds out in the sunken living room in addition to the king bedroom master suite. There is one bathroom within the king suite. A door separates the sunken living room from the master bedroom. There is a private patio, gated grounds, and fully landscaped yard. Your very well behaved four legged may join you, but may not be left unattended in the cabin.

Blueleaf is one cabin in a lodge that has two cabins side by side: If you need more space you can book the cabin next door( 1-3 extra bedrooms and 2 additional baths).

If you wish absolute privacy during your stay, please do communicate this desire. Holidays book both cabins, and a shared festive atmosphere prevails.

Dogs are welcome, though we ask their humans to respect the right of the plants to survive...dogs are not allowed to run off leash in either of the gated yards. A giant dog park off-leash and thousands of hiking trails are abundant and all around the neighborhood.

Retire restfully and rise to grinding Sumatra and French Roast: happily supplied, along with lots of goodies, by your hosts. Short drives or walks to the best of South Lake Tahoe attractions and the finest restaurants.

Affordable luxury in a green, healthy house. Fairly priced for the incredible 600 square feet ! Why stay anywhere else ?

Sande purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Sande chose Bijou Acres

BLUELEAF is just plain COOL. I find it very romantic, even without the 'romantic' original art on the walls.

What makes this cabin unique

Treats and suprises for you and yours

We believe in making hospitality sustainable too........

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi, Sande. Thanks for your lovely note yesterday, and your explanation of our TV difficulties! We loved the Blue Leaf cabin, and we had a wonderful time at Lake Tahoe. My friend Alicia was wishing for a thunderstorm from the day of our arrival, and we were so grateful that you arranged a surprise thunder-and-lightning-and-hail show for us on our last evening there!.... It was truly magnificent!

As pictured, but not sure I'd call it romantic...

  • 3 of 5

My significant other and I spent the Thanksgiving weekend in this cabin. First off, I'll say it is exactly as pictured and was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. It's close to everything.

My lower rating is because I do not think it was accurately described in the ad. This ad describes a "romantic" cabin with a "private" gated yard, etc. The yard is indeed gated and again exactly as pictured. What isn't clear is that this property is actually a duplex. I believe the ad for this rental on one of the other rental websites mentions an "adjacent cabin" on the property. But this is actually one cabin that has been split in two, with a one bedroom rental on one side and a 3 bedroom rental on the other, with a wooden door in the kitchen that separates or adjoins the two. Whomever is in the other rental shares the yard, and must walk directly by the windows and doors for this rental. You will hear them every time they do. Not a fatal flaw, but just not at all what I was expecting from the description.

I'd also note that the sound-proofing between the two units does not seem sufficient. During our stay, we could clearly make out the tv from next door and clearly hear conversations...I'm not talking about muffled voices so you simply know somebody is talking. I'm talking about overhearing full conversations, word for word. As a result, I didn't find it an overly romantic setting.

So, is it all bad...absolutely not. It's a cute little spot. It's very homey. It's just not what we were expecting as far as privacy went.

I'd also recommend stopping at a store on the way to buy wood if you're going in the fall/winter. When we arrived, the place was very cold...no heat on or wood stove running, and no wood available to light a fire. As a result, we had our coats on inside for the first hour and made an immediate run to the store for wood.

This is a cute, clean little cabin...just know what you're renting if a quiet romantic weekend is what you're looking for. Tahoe itself was lovely, and fairly quiet/uncrowded even on Thanksgiving weekend.

Owner's Response: Our lodge has two cabins. We describe it exactly as it is. 35 reviewers love Blueleaf and find it "romantic". 2 reviewers have commented about being able to hear muted conversations that take place in the kitchen next door. Although we try not to book the two cabins simultaneously: this is next to impossible on holiday weekends. We always suggest non-holiday visits to guests that have a strong desire for absolute privacy and quiet. There are two very separate and separately gated yards: Blueleaf also has its own Redwood Deck. We welcome guests to communicate their needs so when this guest did not communicate any special needs, and booked two days prior to Thanksgiving: we just assumed they had read the description on VRBO regarding the property. In three years of hundreds of renters, all of whom send us their positive comments via email, we believe we accurately communicate the cabins' cool features and recommend that the non-holiday dates will always be more romantic than the crowded holiday dates.

One week vacation!Ready to enjoy my husbands birthday in a cozy one bedroom cabin in South Lake Tahoe. The area was experiencing a little heat wave.We had been in SLT already two days, at the Avalon Lodge. On the third day we headed to the cabin. The outside looked nice.We parked outside the gate and went in.The front of the house has two doors. The first door admits you to the one bedroom. The second one is the main house. We followed directions and were inside.Hmm, looks a little tired. One big step down to the main sitting area from the kitchenette.Another teeny step down into the bedroom, with a sliding door to the outside. The only other outside air available is one window in the main sitting area.Remember the little heat wave.We went to open the bedroom slider. No screen!Maybe the small overhead fan will help. Not so much.Plus, it made a VERY distracting noise. We had to use it though.Remember the heat wave.Where's the bathroom?Up two steps from the bedroom. That's different.Small.What is the yellow foam stuff between the vanity and the tub?The shower lining appears to have a mold stain.Wow, the shower is tiny!Where will my shampoo and rinse sit?Is this all the toilet paper we get for one week?Guess so.Let's go out and look at the main room/kitchenette.First down two steps, then up a little step.Have to remember this at night! The other two windows do not open at all! They are old,the caulking seems to be rather nonexistent, some sort of tape holding everything together.Ick.Wow,spider webs everywhere! That's unpleasant. What is the kitchenette like?Up one step. A "plug me in cooktop" sitting on the counter. This took 45 minutes to figure out.A painted blue refregerator. Old.Tiny.Barely kept our foods cold.Convection/microwave.Nice.It will take the novice like we were some significant time to figure out.Do you want Internet service for your electronics?Forget about it!Spotty at best.1.1 to 1.2 Mbps per second!Don't even get me started on all the controls just to watch tv!We bought a standing fan for air movement. We bought screening and duck taped it to the bedroom slider frame for air in the bedroom. The dead bolt on the door does not work.No working light outside the door.We had one set of towels for a week plus one bath one hand extra. No extra paper towels. Many spider webs in the garden and patio!Much more to tell you all but space is limited. Will we return?Come on.

Cozy and Clean

  • 5 of 5

Pros: Sandy was very prompt with replying to my VRBO emails and sent me the paperwork in a flash. Blue Leaf is located about 5 - 10 minutes away from Heavenly Mtn in South Lake Tahoe. The cabin was VERY clean. The living room is cozy and the bedroom is very quiet and peaceful. The bed was comfortable and very warm. I am not sure why another reviewer commented on the lack of pillows...there were extra pillows of the non-down variety readily available. There were also plenty of extra blankets. The bathroom is small but well laid out and the shower head provides a very nice spray. The living room TV was big and there is a 2nd TV in the bedroom. The electric heater/fireplace in the bedroom is great! It kept us warm and added to the ambiance. We did not use the wood-burning stove in the living room so I cannot comment on that. The kitchen is tidy and has all the necessary cooking equipment; we didn't have the opportunity to cook because we ate out so I can't comment on the appliances themselves.

Other factors to consider: Blue Leaf is directly attached to Rainforest, the owner's other unit. Besides the separate external doors, the two units are connected through a locked wooden door from the kitchen/living room of Blue Leaf to the kitchen of Rainforest. We found that when our neighbors were in their kitchen and we were in our living room/kitchen area, we could hear every word they said (even if they spoke at a conversational volume) and every noise they made (ex. getting ice from the fridge). When they were in their other rooms, we could hear them a little bit but not nearly as much as when they were in the kitchen. We could not hear them at all from the bedroom, just the living room. It did not bother us - we just turned on the TV or music - but customers who want a quiet stay should keep this in mind if the adjoining property is occupied during your visit. Another factor to consider is that the bedroom and the bathroom each have a piece of artwork depicting the upper half of the female form. The artwork is presented in a classy and tasteful way, but if you are travelling with young children it may be something to consider.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Next time we find ourselves in Tahoe, we will be staying here again. Thanks Sandy!

Clean Comfortable Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had no problems finding the cabin, though I was surprised to find it is attached to a second rental. The fencing surrounds the property and gives a nice, secluded feel. If we had neighbors, I never saw or heard them. Heavenly was right around the corner, making this a great location for us. There is a Safeway right up the street, so we were able to save money by cooking ourselves. The cabin was clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed. The bed was nice, but I wish there were more pillow options, since we don't like down pillows. My little dog loved the place, he looked right at home from the time he walked in. Overall, great experience.
