Amazing time at Blue Bahia!

My husband and I just returned from a week-long stay at Gary's condo at the Blue Bahia in Sandy Bay. It was amazing! We had such a great time, and being at this property was a big part of it.
First of all, the location in Sandy Bay is perfect. 15 minutes drive from the airport, and less than 10 minutes into West End. Close enough to run into town for dinner, but far enough to feel secluded and quiet. There are other properties nearby, up or down the beach, so you can go exploring if you want, but the location still feels private enough for what we wanted.
This is one of the best areas for easy access to some of the favorite dive/snorkel sites. Literally 30 seconds in the boat and you are on the outside the reef. The protected area inside the reef was incredible for swimming and snorkeling. Just jump in at the end of the dock and swim in the warm shallow water, or put on your mask and fins and head towards the reef for more wildlife. (It is a long swim to the reef but totally manageable, even for less experienced swimmers, as it is so calm and shallow). This became my daily morning ritual.
The Blue Bahia is outstanding. I don't like big fancy resorts, and I don't even like hotels, but this place was just the right mix of privacy and service. It has a wonderful, relaxed, tropical feeling, with several two-story units surrounding a small infinity pool. There were other folks staying there while we were there, but it didn't feel crowded or touristy at all. Kent, the resort owner, is a great character and is super helpful with info about the island. Phillip was great too, he will make calls and arrangements for you to do activities or anything you need. Everyone there was friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
There are several tropical birds in large bird houses on the property, some of which are rescues, and it added to the vibe. They are well-cared-for and loved by all! There are also two super sweet dogs that will befriend you, so just be aware of that if you are not a dog lover. We absolutely loved having them around.
The Blue Bahia restaurant was great too. We enjoyed the free daily breakfast, usually some combo of eggs, toast, and fruit. Their regular menus are nice, good burgers, fresh snapper, homemade BBQ. We tried a lot of different places on Roatan and this was one of the better beach grills.
The Octopus Dive School is awesome! My husband did his open water cert, and I snorkeled, and we had a great experience.
We will be back!
