Our cabin was built on the northeastern bluff of Petit Jean Mountain and is 750 feet above the base. Two miles of farmland lie between our cabin and the Arkansas River, and a panoramic mountain rimmed view extends over farmland to the north for over 20 miles. Cloud formations are incredibly beautiful at times and the atmosphere on the bluff is aways comfortable and relaxing. At night the star viewing is amazing.
Our cabin is actually a 1400 square ft house with two levels. There are three covered porches; two of them overlook the valley to the north and one of those is screened in. All the rooms to the rear of the house open to their respective porches.
This is located in a quiet woodland setting near the middle of three acres on the bluff of the mountain.

Magazine State Park (Magazine); Water sports w/fishing and boating at Lake Dardanelle State Park (Russellville); Frisbee golf (two courses - Russellville); Weideker and other wineries (Altus); Hot Springs National Park (Hot Springs); Clinton Presidential Library (Little Rock); and of course the beautiful Buffalo National River.

Ray and /or Kathy Allen purchased this cabin in 2010
Property next to our cabin/house has been in our family for the past 50 years. This cabin was built around 1995 and recently became available to us. We purchased this cabin in lieu of building a separate structure.
I enjoy watching the slow designs the farm equipment makes as fields are cut on the farmlands far below us and listening to the far off calls of cattle lowing in the evening. Storm cells moving across the valley any time of day are captivating, and watching the occasional crop duster work the fields below is a real treat.
I also enjoy sitting on the back porch and watching for river boats pushing barges up and down the river. These boats light up the river at night as they slowly push their loads along.
I enjoy drifting off to sleep on the second story hammock on the back porch and feeling the breeze coming up the side of the mountain.
There are only a few cabins/houses built on the bluffs of this entire mountain top and I always enjoy the fact that this is one of them. There's adventure here, and I like that too.
The Allen cabin was the perfect venue for spending quality time with family in a beautiful spot. The cabin is situated right on the north brow of Petit Jean Mountain with breathtaking views at every time of day. It is spacious and cozy at the same time, comfortably furnished, and the adorable kitchen is well prepared for making and serving meals. The Allen's are kind, thoughtful hosts who have made provisions for all of your curiosities about the surrounding community and the enveloping natural beauty. We are so grateful to have spent part of the holidays at the Allen cabin! I highly recommend this perfect retreat to anyone from near or far.
My family and I stayed at the cabin at the recommendation of my son who had stayed at this cabin the year before. It was wonderful, stocked with everything you could need and in a beautiful location that was close enough to both the town and Petit Jean Park.
I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting a great get away.
My wife and I brought our two daughters, ages 6 & 9, here for a get away weekend. The cabin was great, the view is amazing. We hiked, played games, grilled steaks and sat on the back porch. The master bed was very comfortable. I highly recommend staying here.
We stayed in The Allen House for a winter weekend and had a great time. The house was warm and cozy, not to mention the wonderful view from the back decks! The master bed was the most comfortable I've slept on! It's obvious the owners go to great lengths to make everyone feel at home. A great getaway spot - highly recommend.
My girlfriends and I met at the cabin for a weekend getaway. As we drove through the gate (which can be closed for privacy concerns) the bird's eye view beyond the cabin revealed the Arkansas River in the Valley below. There are two porches, the bottom level is screened, and the upper deck open and allowing fantastic sunrise views. I'm certain the sunsets are just as magnificent. I can not impress enough how spectacular the view is from this vantage point. You won't want to leave! The grounds are well-kept with flower beds and small trails that take you to a water feature and fire pit. As a birder, the water feature is visible from the upper decks, and I'm certain has many visitors during migration and summer. Forget your binoculars? The owners have you covered. You will want to live and breath on those decks. Did I mention the fantastic views? Yes?
The cabin is well cared for, decorated with the naturalist in mind and pleasing in every way. The only downside, and this isn't a big deal, is the stairs leading to the upper level and bedrooms. But not to worry, there's a sleeper sofa downstairs, as well as a bathroom, for those of you unable to climb those stairs. As to the upper bedrooms, we slept like royalty in comfort from our castle on the mountaintop. The owners have strategically placed blankets and pillows throughout the cabin so you can be nice and cozy during the cooler temperatures.
The kitchen is well-stocked. In fact, none of us have ever seen one so well supplied! We didn't have to go to town for anything! How wonderful!!! We spent most of our time playing music in the den by the gas fireplace, and as the evening begin to fade, we retreated to the living room to watch a couple of movies. There's plenty of room to spread out, if you need your own space, but to me, the cabin is more about promoting interaction with each other. We were so happy here!
As to the steps, this would not prevent me from returning, and I'm not complaining at all. None of us girls are big into sports, we're in our 50s and we managed just fine. Totally loved this place and would recommend it to anyone that wants to stay at Petit Jean and prefers privacy from others. As much as I love the state park, it is SO nice to wake up at this private cabin, step outside with a cup of coffee, wearing a bathrobe and listen to the birds in solitude. We will definitely be back!!!
We enjoyed our stay at Allen's Cabin. The view was wonderful. Two of the mornings when we looked at the view all we could see was some big fluffy clouds. We actually caught the sunrise one morning it was very beautiful. We took lots and lots of pictures.
We saw some of the sites in Petit Jean State Park and also did some hiking.
The cabin was very clean and well stocked. We loved the kitchen, while being small it still had everything we could possibly need for fixing our meals. They even had food items stocked if we needed them. The stove looked like an old antique stove.
We each had our own beds to sleep in. I slept in the lower bunk, I don't know if it was just me or not but it seemed to slope to the front of the bed which made me feel like I was sliding forward...the bed was still comfortable and I slept like a baby. It brought back childhood memories sharing bedrooms with a sister or two. Very enjoyable.
There was always something to do.
I would really love to see the flower gardens in the spring or early summer to see the flowers in bloom. I can only imagine how beautiful they would be while swinging on the two rope swings smelling the floral fragrances.
We started discussing the possibility of staying again for another one of our yearly Sisters Retreats. I would recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a nice peaceful place to stay.
Day trip canoeing available on rivers to north and west, hang gliding from Mount Nebo, day trip cliff diving and swimming at Greer's Ferry Lake near Heber Springs to north, winery tours in Altus, Historic bath houses in Hot Springs, beautiful hiking trails on Petit Jean and surrounding areas. Excellent ATV trail systems on Mt. Magazine to west and Moccasin Gap to northwest. For those interested in geocaching, the opportunities abound.
