As Conde Nast Traveller writes, 'Western Canada is a natural paradise: mind-blowingly, breath-robbingly beautiful...The sheer profusion of fauna (the place is crawling, creeping, and swimming with wildlife), the off-the-grid unspoiled nature, and the muscular ruggedness of the landscape are simply fantastic'.
Watch the seaplanes land and sailboats pass by as you relax in your oceanfront retreat. Gorgeous sunsets and sweeping views of Pender Harbour and the surrounding mountains are visible from nearly all rooms of this West Coast inspired contemporary cottage.
Keep your eyes open for seasonal visits from bald eagles, hummingbirds, and yes even whales and dolphins which have been known to visit the harbour. Enjoy the regular appearances of seals, sea otters, deer, loons, and many other beautiful West Coast species.
Bring your boat or rent one and tie up to the large private dock with deep water moorage then head out and explore the many gorgeous nearby inlets.
Perfect for entertaining, find all the amenities of home including a large kitchen with all major appliances, outdoor gas BBQ, gas fireplace, washer, dryer, central vacuum, and radiant floor heating in the bathroom.
Off the property, mountain and ocean-side hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, golfing, fine dining, casual dining, horseback riding, lake swimming, antique and local wares shopping, scuba diving, a day at the spa, tennis, fishing, crabbing, yoga, etc...are all close at hand.
Pender Harbour is a convenient 2 hour trip from downtown Vancouver, including a scenic 45 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay. Sea planes offer another unique and scenic travel experience and land nearby in the Harbour.
We are sure you will love your stay here as much as we do every time we come home to this property. Please feel free to contact Erica for any additional photos or information at 416-220-7933.
We are two professionals with a baby based in Vancouver. We're avid travellers who love good food and wine, spending quality time with friends and family, and being active outdoors in nature. We enjoy the city life and all of its culture just as much as we enjoy escaping it and hanging out in the woods at our cottage.
Erica Winterfield purchased this house in 2006
Because it's one of the most beautiful natural places in the world! My husband grew up in Ontario where summers at the lake are quite common. So when he moved to Vancouver he immediately looked for a place nearby on the water where we could escape to on the weekends with friends and family.
I echo all the other reviews. This place is amazing, as are the property owners. Thank you so much for sharing your retreat!
This place is one of the rare gems that is actually more impressive than the pics.
Great views, very private, lots of sun and shade, super clean and all the conveniences of home.
We found two restaurants nearby that served excellent meals.
Lots to see and do within a few kms.
The couple who own the place were very easy to deal with - no property management to go through. We plan to come back next year.
This getaway was perfect for our group! So clean, cozy and tastefully decorated. The sunsets here are amazing and we have stunning photos on the deck that we'll cherish forever. It was so hard to leave and we can't wait to come back!
My friends and I stayed at this well-situated, comfortable Pender Harbour house for a few days of water skiing, swimming and prawning. We brought our own boat up from Vancouver (a 3 hour trip in good weather) and tied up to the private dock. Talk about convenience! There are lots of great decks to relax outside on the property - which to me, is the whole point of renting a house on the water. The upper deck for dinners, the sunny dock in the afternoon, and the lower deck was perfect for shucking oysters and enjoying some wine. The sunsets are beautiful. If you have a boat, there are loads of lovely bays to explore in the area for swimming or dropping a crab trap. I'd suggest grocery shopping in advance of arriving, but Pender Harbour does has a general store for extra food and booze (and a gas dock). The house was equipped with everything we needed to have a great vacay. Thank you Erica. We'll be back!
We were looking for a place to rent on a lake in BC when we got turned on to Pender Harbour. This place is beyond amazing and has the best of both worlds. An early morning dip, coffee and reading on the dock. Dropped a crab trap in the afternoon on our way out to spend the day water skiing and wakeboarding in what felt like our own ocean 10 minutes up the coast (we brought our boat up with us), white wine, oysters and crab legs on the outdoor patio before a slow cruise over to (hands down) my favorite restaurant in BC, at painted boat resort, followed by a 'Roy Henry Vickers' Sunset cruise home. It really was the perfect day. We have been back here numerous times, at various times of the year, with and without friends, family and even for quite getaways with just the two of us. A simple commute from Vancouver, $5 million dollar view out every window, fully stocked with everything you could need including an ocean full of crab and tons of fun board games, super kitchen, for cooking for a crew, and every bed in every room comfortable. Super tastefully decorated and remodeled cottage that is the perfect blend of oceanfront house and lakefront cottage.
things we love to do up there::
-Dinner on the patio at painted boat
-Hike up the bluff at Garden Bay Marine Park (mt Daniel, I believe)
-Wake up, pour a coffee and spend and hour or two watching sailboat after sailboat sail past from any bed in the place
-Oysters on the BBQ
-Rent kayaks, paddle boards or bikes p from Painted boat to explore
-If you bring your boat, cruise up the Agamemnon Channel and float for hours. (You can launch and store your trailer at the Madeira Marina or cruise up from Vancouver by water. We have done this a couple of times and love to arrive by water.
-tennis at Edmonton park
-watch the river kayakers at Skookumchuk narrows (or ride them yourself if you are into that)
-hang out on the sandy beach at ruby lake
-Sunrise, Sunset and sunbathe on the dock.
I was looking for a vacation spot for a family reunion. I'm glad I found this cottage available. It was large enough to accomodate all of us and had all the amenities of home. It's very warm, cozy and welcoming. It's very conveniently located to Garden Bay and Ruby lake, a perfect place to go kayaking.
The views are just spectacular and you can dock your boat right at the cottage. The outdoor grill adds to a great evening to watch sunset and have your dinner.
It's at a great location to spot wildlife as well. We saw a few bald eagles everyday.
I will highly recommend it.
The house is located 5 minutes away by car from Madeira Park and is 2 hours from Vancouver (including ferry ride)
