White Sands is a peaceful, small condomium of 14 units located on West Gulf Drive just east of Tarpon Bay Road. All units face directly south, looking out over the pool and beach to the Gulf of Mexico with distant views to the southeast of Estero Island, Bonita, and Naples. Unit 22 is on the second of three occupied levels with elevator access or just up two flights of stairs. The lanai extends across the front of the unit with sliders that fully open to the master bedroom and living room. Depending on the season, air-conditioning becomes unnecessary with the unit opened up to the onshore breeze and cross ventillation through the condo aided by paddle fans in every room.
It is an easy walk or bike ride to the Bailey's General Store/Island Cinema/shops and restaurants, and only a little further to the post office, public library, Big Arts center, Historical Museum, and the Pine Ridge shops. The Tarpon Bay nature facility, Bailey Shell Museum, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, and the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge are also just a short bike ride away.
Although you will want to spend most of your time outside, the condo also provides cable TV in every room with an assortment of DVD/VCR's, an AM/FM/CD stereo in the living room, and internet access with WiFi.

Presently, we are retired and living on Cape Cod. We enjoy nature and the beach which led us to purchase this condo fifteen years ago as a family retreat. We had parents who retired to Ft. Myers, and found Sanibel through visiting them. Our family continues to gather on Sanibel for Thanksgiving and vacations there whenever possible.
Although some of us play golf and occassionally tennis, most of us just like to relax on vacation. We bike, swim, and walk the beach. The shells are different every time and depend upon the season and the weather. Sanibel is unique in the preservation of the island and its wildlife (72% of the island is in preserves and there are no buildings over three stories high).
White Sands' proximity to the Gulf, small size, and relaxed atmosphere are why we love it here. We mostly wear shorts and sandals. Life on Sanibel is casual. It is about nature and the beach. One only needs a jacket or tie if he goes 'off island' to a fancy highly developed place such as Naples. We try not to leave, but would rather leave the car in the lot and walk or ride our bikes.
Gulf of Mexico beachfront location for shelling, walking, and sunsets. Close to the JN Ding Darling bird sanctury and other preserved areas of Sanibel. Convenient mid-island location for shopping and restaurants.
