About Deanna Rasco

We have been part of the Florida Key since my birth. I have spent many holidays in the Keys. My Grandparents purchased the home in 1990. Since then, my husband and I have purchased the home. We still visit the Keys frequently from South Florida.

Deanna Rasco purchased this house in 1991

Why Deanna Rasco chose Lower Matecumbe Key

This home is a very private home with incredible views. On any given day you can see a variety of incredible birds including bald eagle, osprey, pelicans and if you watch closely you may see dolphin swimming in the water. There is no place closer to paradise.

Gorgeous, Relaxing, Fun: Can't Wait to Come Back

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from a blissful weeklong stay at this Islamorada home. It's a fabulous place for families with young children! My two toddlers loved the manmade beach (which felt totally contained, clean, and safe) and all the beach toys available; the hot tub; having fires in the fire pit at night; and, yes, it must be said, watching their nightly cartoon on the huge flat-screen TV. My husband and I loved the location and the fact that we could spread out and roam around and look at water all day long. And my mom, who came with us, loved having her own room downstairs to retreat to for some peace and quiet. We all loved the coconuts -- tons of coconut water and fresh coconuts the entire trip!

Islamorada is an amazing destination and we can't wait to go back. Even the tourist stuff (feeding the tarpons at Robbie's, etc.) is undeniably fun. We loved our experience at the Dolphin Research Center, swimming behind the Islamorada Library, and kicking back at dusk each night at Morada Bay Cafe, but honestly much of the time we just enjoyed the house and all there was to do. We bought Key West pink shrimp at the local fish market down the road and cooked at home most of the time. We also rented a double kayak at Robbie's and had some really great sunset paddles.

As I mentioned to the owner, the only issues we had were the slow Internet (but that wasn't really a problem) and the fact that basic supplies at the house (toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, etc.) are limited. Stop at the Winn-Dixie in Tavernier on your way down and save yourself a shopping trip.

All in all, a fantastic vacation. Thank you!

By far best place to vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

We have used VRBO the past few years and have always been happy with our choices. I read all the reviews on a property like a mad woman. It took me two weeks of research before I decided this house was the one. Everything about this house is true! It is in a great location and very well kept. We were a group of 7, ages 15 to 65 yrs. The upper deck view is amazing and that is where the over 40 crowd hung out. The lower deck has a room where my teenage son and his friend slept. Our two teenage girls hung out with them underneath the house most evenings. They snorkeled over to the big rock formation, played cards, listened to music, had fires and generally stayed away from the grown ups as much as possible. There is a hot tub also but that was not working correctly. I expected that based on other reviews I had read, but the week we were there it was in the 90's so who cares. The ocean is right out your back door and the kids swam out a 1/4 mile and stood up in 3 feet of water. It was the most peaceful ocean I have ever been on and I loved the fact that it was so shallow. Our kids love the water and could often be found in the ocean at 11 pm. The only downside was that the houses to each side of us had kayaks. We were envious of them, as they kayaked all day and all night. I would highly recommend calling ahead to one of the marinas and having kayaks delivered to the house for your stay. Favorite things to do: Snorkel tour with Cptn. Sam - Key Z charters two miles away. Kayaking eco tour with Bill from Big Pine Kayak Adventures about 40 minutes away, and if you have kids you really should visit National Key Deer Refuge (free), ask Bill the best place to see them. It is unlawful to feed them but they really like grapes, romaine lettuce and carrots. We also visited The Turtle Hospital in Marathon and all ages enjoyed that. Dolphins Plus with Jake as your trainer in Key Largo was the best dolphin - sea lion experience we have ever had. Worth every penny! We did not pay $80 for the proff. photos and we got plenty of our own. Save your money on that part. We did go to Key West one day and I was not impressed. I guess you have to go there though just to say you have been to Key West. I loved all the other keys but that one. It is very commercialized and crowded - beware. I would highly recommend any other key and can't wait to go back again some day. All 7 voted best vacation ever!

A perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

Don't you love going somewhere after renting online and be suprised getting there to find out that all is even better than expected? This was the case. The view is breathtaking every hour of the day, the house is spacious, beautiffuly decorated and furnished, extremely comfortable, there really isn't anything missing. The only very minor disappointment for me was the beach that's not really swimable, but with water shoes and a paddle board, it's ok. However, this hasn't spoiled anything at all; Anne's beach (beautiful!) is just a minute's drive away, and the beach at the house did make for some interesting beachcombing.

The owner was always available, just a phone call away. There is a book in the house for reference of nearby activities and services which was very helpfus also, Robbie's boat rental and tours is just around the corner, great for jetski and snorkeling tours. We went for dinner at Lorelei's at sunset (beautiful!) and at Lazy days for seafood (delicious!) all within 5-10 minutes drive. Supermarket are sparce, so make sure you get the bulk of your groceries in Key Largo or Winn Dixies (MM91) on your way down, it's worth it.

I can only say that I hope I'll be back... and the sooner the better!

Beautiful view.

The property is lovely and relaxing. It was nice to have a private bedroom and bath for each couple. The one thing that I would change is the charcoal grill; it was small and cumbersome.

Excellent place to stay with family!

  • 4 of 5

Perfect place to stay with family. House has everything you need for a week of relaxation. The location was great - very close to everything (shopping, restaurants & fishing). Our kids love playing on the beach every day - looking for lizards & shells. The list of restaurants reccommended was perfect. We truly enjoyed our week in the Keys!

Outstanding Location

  • 5 of 5

This is a great location for a vacation stay. It allowed for easy access to all Islamorada locations and great restaurants. The view was fantastic and offered excellant privacy and seclusion. It offered a prime spot for viewing all the wildlife the middle keys had to offer. Sitting on the ample balcony allowed up close viewing of eagles fishing, iguana, heron, passing dolphins, and even an alligator swimming by. The weather cooperated with mostly warm and sunny days. The beautifuuly maintained state parks allowed for great picnicking and scenic sights along with hiking trails and swimming. All in all a wonderful experience at this beautifully decorated home away from home.
