I am a Curriculum Technology Specialist recently retired from Shelby County Schools. My husband recently retired from the Department of Treasury. We are loving retirement and enjoying our frequent trips to the mountains. Our daughter and son-in-law recently moved from Arizona to Tennessee, and we are thrilled to have them closer.
Linda Jarrett purchased this house in 2010
My husband and I have been coming to Gatlinburg for years and hope to move to this house in a few years. We took our first vacation together in Gatlinburg in 1974 and stayed at Rocky Waters. Over the years we started renting houses in this area and enjoyed the privacy, space, and views afforded by this type of rental. Chalet Village and Chalet Village North are our favorite areas. It is quiet and yet close to everything. When we found this house on Bear Walk Way, we couldn't resist buying it. The idea of living the rest of our lives looking out our windows and seeing mountains, valleys, wildlife, and distant night lights is a dream come true.
We love the mountains and are interested in the history of the area. We love walking in the park, seeing the wild turkeys, bears, deer, and the red headed woodpeckers that live in our back yard. In the winter the snow is beautiful, and in the fall the colors are spectacular. We rarely go into town during high tourist season, but in January and February parking is allowed on the strip and that is when we do our fun shopping and sightseeing. We belong to the Great Smoky Mountain Association and appreciate all the efforts to maintain the natural resources and historic living areas in the park.
This is our 7th time staying at Blue Mountain--again we love it! Beautiful weather--our first trip to Pancake Pantry and it was wonderful. Also ejoyed Dixie Stampede and Comedy Barn again.
We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to be able to come back again. Many thanks for sharing your lovely chalet.
P.S. Getting ready to leave, Chuck was loading the car and a big black bear walked right behind him--went over and check the garbage cans and continued on down the road. What a sight to remember.
Had an enjoyable stay. House was nice, but needs updating. Location was beautiful with an outstanding view. House was spacious and inviting. Had a lovely New Years.
We had a wonderful time staying here for a long weekend. The view was spectacular and when an unexpected snowfall had us housebound, we couldn't have asked for a better location to spend the day inside. The owners were very nice to work with as well.
My wife and I had a very enjoyable time here. The chalet was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The view of the valleys and mountains (I believe it faces toward Pigeon Forge) was outstanding through the many picture windows. We were disappointed that we didn't see any bears, but a hen turkey did stroll across the backyard. I guess the bears heard we were coming and hid from view! LOL
As for the chalet, we were pretty happy with it, but it needs some upgrading (paint and minor repairs, etc.). In the master bath, downstairs, is a Jacuzzi tub with a very high sides, so we used the shower upstairs. On the third level is a very large hot tub next to a picture window looking out over the valleys and mountains and was pretty nice. There is no outdoor hot tub as most chalets have. There is a charcoal grill that looks pretty new and we grilled some steaks on that.
There was firewood supplied, (along with some fatwood for getting the logs burning, although we didn't find it until the day we left-it was under some stuff in the utility closet by the front door). It was nice having a steak dinner, a fire in the fireplace and watching the World Series on TV.
Of course we went into Gatlinburg and shopped, but better than that we spent two days up in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Be forewarned, it takes longer than you think to see the park, especially in the fall with the hoards of leaf peepers driving around. The park was at its best in terms of fall color.
All in all, a great vacation.
The Blue Mountain Cabin was perfect for our family of 5! Lots of space for our 7, 11, and 13 yr old children to spread out and have some privacy....We (the adults), loved spending some tranquil time on the 3rd floor utilizing the jacuzzi hot tub and enjoying the wonderful views! The cabin was clean and had all the amenities of home....didn't get to see any bears but was likely a bit cold for them to venture out. Upon arrival, we were out of firewood (as someone must have helped themselves) and contacted the owners. We received a quick response and a visit from the local contact along with a full bin of new firewood. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home.....we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone!
Three Tennessee cousins joined one cousin from Kansas and one cousin from California at Blue Mountain Cottage for a wonderfully relaxing, reconnecting weekend. The house was very clean and the owner was very helpful. We used the jacuzzi on the third floor 3 nights--the view up there IS amazing. We saw 2 bear cubs one afternoon. We drove to the Visitors' Center one afternoon to get a group photo made, and then went on into Gatlinburg for shopping. We all hope to make this a frequent get-away in the future! We would recommend it (except we'd kinda like to keep it a secret....!) Thanks for a wonderful vacation!
Our family had a wonderful stay. The home was clean & well maintained and had everything our family of five (twin 9yo & 5yo boys) needed and wanted. Chalet Village North is a great location with easy access to Gatlinburg via 441 and the bypass into the Smoky Mnt National Park, and Linda's home is on a quiet, easily accessed road within the community. Pictures are accurate and the home has a great view. On our last night, while throwing away trash, my husband met a mother bear and cubs. Our family enjoyed watching (from the safety of the back deck) her and 3 bear cubs tumble in the back yard. Definitely a great memory for the boys!
