Nice Property For Large Groups

  • 5 of 5

I and my 5 other siblings rented this property (more like a compound) for a week. This included grandparents, multiple sets of adult kids coming and going. Most of the time the large quantity of rooms were all full. The main house is a classic New England home that is well cared for. The other cottages are basic vacation cottages, functional but not glamorous.

The rear lawn is on a bay, a nice quiet setting that was the primary hangout for the crowd with nighttime barbeques. We were kayaking right from the property although you need to time it a bit with the tides to avoid having to drag it the kayaks across the mud. Plenty of kayak exploring in the area.

We have a minor issue with the stove, emailed the owner, and the next morning a professional repairman arrived and resolved it.

All and all, despite the cost it rates a 5 star rating especially for larger groups where you really gain value. It can sleep a lot of folks with reasonable comfort and is surprisingly quiet for a location within easy walking distance of the center of Wellfleet and the beach.

The Perfect Place!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at The Moorings saw 21 family members from New Jersey, California, Washington State, England and Hong Kong gathered to celebrate a milestone birthday, an expected baby and successful exam results. The accommodations were ideal, the main house providing facilities for celebrations with the assortment of dining tables and chairs, and breakfasts and lunches were taken

on the breezy verandah, while the waterside site witnessed several barbecues. The house, recently renovated, was bright, clean and inviting; the cottages provided the opportunity for independent arrangements (we had two small boys who were fed there for ease); the setting, on Duck Creek is spectacular! Easy access to the town, the harbour and a protected beach was so convenient. For my immediate family, this was an opportunity to rediscover the Cape where we spent so many happy summers in the past.

"A man may stand there and put all America behind him" noted Henry David Thoreau. We felt the same way about The Moorings - a Perfect Place!

Ideal place for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Moorings! It is such a perfect place in such a perfect place. Everything worked so well for our family. The idea of having such a miscellany of silverware, plates etc. was just right for us, not fancy, but very well equipped. The site is as ideal as it looks like in their pictures. Very close to everything in town and at the beach, and a lovely place to just hang out and visit. We spent lots of time on the wraparound porch and at the picnic tables and chairs in the back yard right on the water. We had a lot of people in our group, a family reunion, 3 of whom slept in cribs we brought. It still felt like there was plenty of space. We never went to restaurants because of the size of our group, but we could cook for everyone in the spacious kitchen and seat everyone at the two tables, one in the dining room, the other in the enclosed porch.

I grew up here!

  • 5 of 5

I grew up in this house! My family owned it for nearly two decades. My mom was the "inn keeper" for all those years, and we all worked as "chamber maids" in the summers under her stern tutelage. Our family lived in the house but rented the cottages and the "turret suite" weekly, or for a few nights at a time. My dad did all the landscaping and hauled in rocks and trees etc.. from upstate NY, where we also lived for part of the year. We inherited a lot of the original antique furniture when we bought the house in the 70's, and kept it all in the house until we sold it in the 90's. The original dark woodwork has been painted over, which appears to have brightened up the interior of the house, so it looks quite different and less Victorianized. I only have wonderful memories of this lovely place, including the benevolent spirit of Capt John, who hung about the house and made himself known on occasion.. The folks who bought the Moorings from us got to know him as well! I hope he's still around keeping an eye on things :) Enjoy your stay. I highly recommend it! (my above dates of stay are inaccurate..)

Great for families

  • 5 of 5

The house and cabins were perfect for our families - there is just the right amount of communal and private space. April (the owner) was very responsive and accommodating.

Wedding Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Moorings with our family for my daughter's wedding. From the watefront ceremony to the farm to table style tented reception...it was a picture book setting. The Moorings accommodated our family in the cottages and main house and we could not have been more pleased. Dancing into the night, smores by the firepit under the stars, children at play and a great time had by all.
