HISTORIC MINNETONKA BEACH LAKE HOME

Minnestrista House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Office, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Our Minnetonka Beach Lake Home overlooks beautiful Lafayette Bay on Lake Minnetonka. Check our calendar or give us a call.

The City of the Village of Minnetonka Beach is a boot shaped peninsula located in Lake Minnetonka. There are 230 homes and 540 residents. The City is mainly residential with the exception of the Lafayette Club and St. Martin's Church. Careful planning has allowed the City to maintain open space and park lands, and to retain the 'village' atmosphere.

This historic, two story furnished home, built in 1876, has 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, a dining room, family room and living room and is a smoke free rental. Extras include a full width south facing screened porch overlooking the lake, a small second floor balcony facing the lake, a private dock across the road and a back yard patio with lake views. The house has 2 queen beds and 3 twin beds and can sleep up to 7.

The kitchen has granite counter tops and stainless appliances as well as an island. The breakfast nook overlooks the back yard and is an old butler’s pantry.

The bathrooms are marble and granite. The rest of the home has narrow plank hardwood maple floors on the main floor and pine in the bedrooms upstairs. Our weekly rental includes soap, liquid soap, and dishwasher soap. We also supply a starter roll of tissue, paper towels, toilet paper and garbage bags. You will need to bring anything else you need for your stay. Amenities include air conditioning and heating, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, water purifier, dishes/utensils, pots/pans, linens and bedding. We include cable TV and wireless internet service.

Rental includes use of a deep water dock, across the road in front of the house, suitable for a boat of up to 23' in length on Lake Minnetonka's Lafayette Bay. There are 3 boat launch ramps nearby. Minnetonka Beach has a public beach which is close by, (less than 1 mile).

The Dakota Rail Regional trail is adjacent to the north side of the property across Westwood Road. The scenic 13.5 mile paved trail travels from Wayzata to St. Bonifacius through Orono, Minnetonka Beach, Spring Park, Mound and Minnetrista. The trail was built on the former Dakota Rail track, originally used to carry tourists to resort hotels on Lake Minnetonka. Our home is within walking distance of St. Martins Church and the historic Lafayette Country Club. There are many restaurants accessible by boat, car or bicycle in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We'd love to rent your house again so keep us in mind for future visits. Your home is one of the most beautiful in the area and staying in your home for the week was honestly an unexpected bonus of the wedding. It was hard to leave.

Thanks again,

Susan

My wife and I purchased the home and raised our 2 children here. Over the years we have made numerous improvments to the property as well as restoring the inside. We have lived in the area all our lives and enjoy the variety of seasons and cultural events Lake Minnetonka has to offer. 5 years ago we purchased another home across the street from the rental property and are currently making that our home.

The Owner purchased this house in 1986

We live nearby and there are unique ameneties in the neighborhood. There are numerous weddings that take place at the very charming St. Martin's Church that have the reception at the equally close Lafayette Club. Our home is often used by families with weddings or family events in the area.

Sailing, Boating, Fishing, Golfing, Swimming at the Minnetonka Beach, Biking and Walking on the paved Dakota Trail. Minnetonka Beach is a beautiful 'village' only 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis giving us a peaceful, serene and beautiful lake setting that allows easy access to the MSP airport, the Minnesota Twins, the Mall of America and the Minnesota Vikings. Both big city entertainments and lake activities are close by.

The perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Awesome house, great location. The property is well kept inside and out. The grilling area is great to hang out while BBQ'ing, the yard is spacious. The porch is perfect for morning coffee or evening down time. The house proved to be a perfect setting for traveling to MN to be with family. The dock was great, no problems crossing the street for us!.The owners are gracious and super helpful. We arrived on a Friday night, groceries delivered.....ready to relax. It was hard to leave after perfect two week stay. We will be back every August!

Wonderful, peaceful accommodation!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wondeful time at this beautiful, spacious house! We were in town visiting family and everyone wanted to come to us as we were on the lake and the house had a huge yard for the kids to play. We had our 3 and 5 yr. old girls with us and this was a perfect house for all of us! I completely disagree with the previous review about this not being appropriate for kids!!! It absolutely is and we were able to cross the road to get to the boat dock everyday with our little ones without a problem at all. They also were able to go up and down the stairs just fine! I would definitely recommend for families with little ones as we had a wonderful experience and would go back (and hope to) in the future. We felt the house had more then enough space and the kids just loved it. The screened in porch was amazing. We even got family photos taken on the property and they turned out wondeful. Jan was great to work with and very responsive. She even let us get in a bit earlier even though the housekeeper was still there as she wanted us to be able to put our little ones down for a nap (we traveled all day from San Francisco). We loved that we could get up and run on the trail every morning with our jogging stroller, so peaceful and private feeling. We thought we would be out and about all week, but we really just wanted to stay at the house and enjoy the lake. It was a great time with great memories.

Amazing historic property

  • 5 of 5
We are four women who were in town to visit Ki Nassauar's Junk Bonanza and decided instead of staying at a hotel close to the race track we wanted to experience Minnesota and its lakes. This house was chosen by its description and we got exactly what we were looking for. A historical house, with a view of the lake. We had an excellent time and enjoyed the house for its uniqueness, charm and historical value. We loved the kitchen and even hosted a dinner party with some friends from the show. Yes, the floors slope a bit, yes the stairs are narrow and may be hard to navigate if you have physical problems, but in our eyes it adds to all the charm!

Right across the front road is a walking path where you can walk to your hearts content and see all the charming houses in the area. The market is close and we even went across the lake to take a boat tour of the area.

Would I recommend it to friends to stay there - You bet I would!

We Loved and Didn't Love this Rental

We Loved and Didn't Love this Rental

Great location to access the bike/walking trails which we did daily. The house is darling & the grounds are so very pretty. The owners were nice and helpful. We LOVED the neighborhood & this part of the location.

However, crossing the BUSY, curvy road to the boat dock was so very dangerous. We parked our boat there and during several attempts to go boating it was very difficult and downright dangerous to get across. You simply cannot see around the curves well enough to see if a car is coming. The speed limit is 40 MPH & there's no shoulder. WE tried to cross during the morning and evening and maybe it was rush hour traffic or maybe it's always like that...not sure, but I would NOT stay here with small children, or elderly for that matter. I was nervous about my teenager crossing. This road was also loud and we woke up several times a night as we are not used to hearing cars and trucks go by all night long.

The stairs in this house are very narrow with no handrail. When you get to the second floor the guard rail is only knee high. This would have also scared me with small kids. A person with knee problems would probably find these carpeted stairs difficult to navigate. All the beds and the one shower are upstairs. My husband and son are both 6'0" plus tall and hit their heads more than once going up and down the stairs.

We sometimes cook dinner at places we stay but this kitchen is so small we decided to eat out...other than breakfast cereals, snacks, etc. It's cute, but it's cramped.

Another concern was the amount of extension cords I saw being used. I noticed they were in several rooms with several old lamps and things plugged into them. Some of the windows were painted or stuck shut & maybe I'm too cautious or used to living in a newer house, but I was a bit concerned about how we'd get out of the second floor in case of a fire.

So...would I stay here again? No. I LOVED the looks of the property & neighborhood and the nearness to the trails, but keeping my family's safety in mind I would sadly, have to say no.

Owner's Response: We realize that our rental is not suitable for everyone and go to great lengths to describe the property and its limitations both in our written descriptions and in telephone conversations and emails. We have, in fact, many times lost potential guests because we strongly stated that the property is not suitable for small children or guests who may have physical difficulties navigating stairs.
Our goal is to provide the best guest experience possible staying in a lake home that is over 130 years old. We lived in the home for 23 years and raised our family, (2 males over 6’-0” tall). We also cooked full Turkey dinners every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most every concern expressed by this reviewer was clearly communicated to them. It is certainly not in our interest to have guests whose expectations are not met and it is very unfortunate that we were unable to do so in this case.

We had a wonderful "Girls Weekend"
We arrived on Friday night, and all 6 of us were able to sit around, talk, share stories, laugh and just enjoy! We enjoyed the fact that we could all eat at the same table & play games around the table. Was a perfect setting for our type of a gathering.
Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of heaven with us.

Lake Minnetonka

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. It was extremely well equipped, especially the kitchen. The location is perfect to tour different parts of the lake. The bike trail is right outside the back door and you can get to a couple different small towns via bike. We would definitely recommend this home.
