MID-CENTURY ZILKER HIDEAWAY

Loved my stay at the Rental. The location is perfect for Austin. Close to the music venues and great eateries. Downtown is easy to get to along the river.
The house is a split level which allows for the kids to be downstairs watching the TV, while the adults can sit around the pool. The neighborhood has side walks and there is a park near by. I will use this rental again.

I LOVE THIS HOUSE! I wish I could take it to Oregon with me but then there is no sun there to enjoy by the pool. This is the perfect set-up for a big family of all ages. I love all of the bedrooms with a different color for each room. I love the character of the house. We usually stay at hotels when we go on vacation but took the chance to rent a house for the week that we were visiting our niece and nephew at UT. I am SO happy that we took that chance. Having a relaxing place to go back to that has such a comfy atmosphere was great. The kitchen was stocked withh all the amenities that I have at home. (blender, mixing bowls, plenty of gadgets, etc...) My little kids loved the neighborhood, we were there for Halloween and went Trick-or-Treating to all the neighbors. Zilker Park is a great kid friendly place within walking distance.
We will definitely return to this wonderful home.

If your vacation includes a group of friends, this house is probably a great fit. However, my recent trip to Austin was to spend time with family (6 adults, 2 children) and attend a wedding. This meant spending a little more time in the house - in this regard, the house fell below our expecations. I recognize that people want different things out of their vacation and house rentals, so I've included a pro/con list. Hope it helps.

Pros: (1) responsive owners and management (worked with us on price and quick to address emails/questions). (2) great location (up the street from Zilker Park and close to restaurants) (3) backyard - nice landscaping and pool, (4) bedrooms - nice decor and comfortable beds, (5) family room - enough seating for large groups (max about 6), (6) washer and dryer (big plus with kids)

Cons: (1) kitchen - old, small, and closed off to other rooms. if you don't plan to spend time in the kitchen, then this is probably irrelevant. but families tend to gather in the kitchen, which was EXTREMELY tiny and closed off to the the living room. Only space for 4 to sit at the table. Although there was a larger dining table, it is located in a separate room. Owners should consider knocking down a wall or two. Also, the kitchen wasn't particularly well-kept and b/c it is old, it felt dirty, particularly inside the cabinets. (2) Amenities - the house, on average, works out to about $140-175 per room/night (4 rooms). In a hotel, for that price, I expect certain amenities - soaps, shampoos, towels, etc. Don't expect that here. Towels were plentiful. But basic bar soaps (costco - not a big deal, but when on vacation, you want something nicer) and no shampoo. Took us awhile to find toilet paper (extra was not in the bathrooms but in a random location in the laundry room). (3) Keys - if you stay here with a group, request an extra set of house keys. You need the keys to lock the door from the inside (you can't just lock the door behind you) - if you are coming/going at different times with friends/family, this creates a logistical problem. A few of us wanted to be out late, so those that stayed back had to sleep with the door unlocked, otherwise we would have had to wake them up to get back in.
(4) Overall - house is old and it feels like it. you can't tell from the photos. but, once you get in, you'll find the 1970's bedroom doors stick to the frames making impossible to quietly open/shut them, showerheads are short, bathrooms are old.
