What a cute home, conveniently located to the heart of Old Downtown!

  • 5 of 5
I read a negative review regarding this cute home, and honestly was quite confused. My daughter and her husband stayed here for a couple of months with their infant while looking for a home to purchase in Bend. Based on their very positive experience they recommended the same rental to my husband and me. We stayed here for 20 days while WE looked for a house to purchase in Bend, and we felt it was the most PERFECT place for us. I have never had the experience that a VRBO furnished every little detail over a long period, and we happily purchased any extras of our main supplies as needed during our 3 week stay.
WHAT WE MOST ENJOYED was the quaintness of the place, the quiet neighborhood, and the fact that we could walk, not only to Old Downtown in about 5 minutes to enjoy the restaurants, stores and Goody's sinful but delicious icecreams (yes, yes, the Breweries are there, too!), but taking the back streets we reached the river trail that parallelled the Des Chutes River - what a perfect hike with our 2 Border Terriers (thank you THANK YOU for having a wonderful pet policy that we respected by keeping the back yard picked up and tidy on a daily basis). Thank you Rick and Denise for our perfect Bend Rental!! We would recommend this "bungalow" to any of our friends in a heartbeat! Richard and Mary VD

Bend Bungalow - Early August Stay

  • 4 of 5
The small bathroom is a challenge & unfortunately the refrigerator quit working during our 4 night stay. The window air conditioner was certainly a relief during the heat, despite the drone sounds (we're used to central AC). The location is tough to beat - near downtown & westside neighborhood dining & shops. It's a great spot for having a dog - convenient fenced backyard lawn and a very walkable neighborhood. We never tired of our morning walks near the river and through the streets with the old "mansions" along Drake Park.

Nice Stay in Bend

  • 4 of 5
We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, well-located home in downtown Bend. It is very conveniently located to downtown shops and eateries - all within easy walking distance. Also well situated to urban trails for walking or running. The house was comfortable for the two of us and our dog, and had a fully fenced backyard. The wi-fi in the house was very fast and easy to use. The large, king bed is a bit to the firm/hard side, and the couch is a bit lumpy.

Owner's Response: Dear Christine,
Thank you so much for the very nice review. It makes us feel great. We have added an egg shell foam mattress for guests who prefer a softer bed.

just about perfect location

  • 4 of 5
We came to town for mountain biking (High Cascade 100 miler) and fly fishing. One of the things we love about Bend is that anywhere you stay is pretty convenient to just about everything. This place was no exception. We parked in the driveway on Thursday and didn't move our truck again until Monday, when we left town.
The house was charming, great kitchen for cooking, nice to bbq in the backyard.

If I had a criticism, but it's really not the owner's fault, it is the bathroom. The house is advertised as a one-bath. If you come to town with four people who will need to shower after riding, racing, fishing, etc, youre going to want more than one bathroom.

Bungled Bungalow

  • 3 of 5
This Bend Bungalow was a mixed stay for us. The folks who own and rent it were super nice to deal with and wonderfully responsive! The house, on the outside, was as lovely as it looks in the picture but was disappointingly dark and without any charm within. The beds were not very comfortable and there were no extra blankets for needed warmth anywhere to be found. The entire house totally lacked comfortable chairs and any appropriate lighting for reading in bed or 'en chaise'. The living room was stark and dark and void of comforts and any aesthetic. All walls were barren and blank thruout the house. For crying out loud, buy a print or two! Cupboards and woodwork was all painted a dark, unfriendly brown. The kitchen lacked mugs (there were 3, I bought 3 more), adequate bowls, not even enough for the 6 people the house advertised it could sleep. There was no teapot (I bought a perfectly serviceable one at a thrift shop for $3 and left it there) and very few basic cooking utensils - garlic press, lemon squeezer(bought one of those too), sharp knives etc. The frying pan provided was an ancient teflon-lined 'beauty' scratched and bent beyond recognition. Unhealthy. Get a few decent indestructible cast iron pans for goodness sakes! If you're renting a house to folks for an extended stay, they need to be comfortable, warm in their beds and able to easily cook a meal and hang out. We were frustrated on all those counts. My last, and one of my biggest complaints is that we were not told that we were renting (for good money) a house that was next to a construction site! Two mornings we were awoken before 8am by steady pounding and big earth moving equipment operating right smack on our border. Not cool.
On the other hand, the place was wonderfully situated for walking to just about everywhere in town, everything was clean, the front porch was a great hang-out spot and the washer and dryer proved very handy. In addition, the house was well set up for the visiting dog we hosted. The back yard, tho nice to have, was un-landscaped and shabby - a pity, cuz it could be a real plus if someone were to put some love into shaping it.
So - a mixed review. We were happy enough, but definitely not thrilled with our stay. We will not be returning to this house, tho we hope to be back in Bend again. I feel that the owners really need to invest a little more love and attention in the aesthetic of the place. Make the little house sing!
It's got real potential!

Owner's Response: Dear Amari,
We are surprised and diappointed by your review. Initially you booked one of our other vacation rentals, but cancelled the night before you were due to arrive. We therefore allowed you to use your deposit, at any of our vacation rentals at a later date convenient for your family. When you arrived at the home you choose, Denise recollects that you called her to say you had arrived and were pleased with the home! We are sorry you were so disappointed and never mentioned anything to us. We work real hard to satisfy our clients. We have over 20 5 star reviews on our vacation rentals.
We feel it is necessary to respond to some of the remarks that were made.
The home is not dark. The owners (we are not the owners we manage this home) purchased this home because of the great natural lighting throughout the home all year long.
The backyard is not landscaped in a groomed manner but is fully fenced, level, and great for pets and children. The barbecue, table and chairs is great for dining.
Everyone has their there own taste for design. The photos listed on this vrbo are very accurate of the furniture that is there. We have had great reviews regarding the decor. We are sorry it didn't inspire you.
This home is one of our most desirable rentals. Our guests feel it is a bargain at $125 per night for an entire home 5 minutes walking distance, from downtown bend, that can accomadate up to 6 people.

We are sorry and do apologize for the construction on the empty lot next door. We did no no they were breaking ground to build a home. No one else has been disturbed.
Had we known this home was not a good fit for you, we would have offered a different rental that might have met your needs better.

Sincerely, Rick and Denise Karvasales
