For years we crossed the Choptank River bridge and drove through Cambridge on our way to vacations in Ocean City and were intrigued by its quaintness. Over the past several years we spent a few long weekends exploring the area, decided to purchase a home, and found our property on Jenkins Creek. Although we may eventually retire here, until that time arrives we've decided to share our home as a vacation property. We hope you enjoy our home and the Cambridge area as much as we do!

Although located at the end of Jenkins Creek Road overlooking the water and surrounded by farmland and exclusive properties, our home is only moments from downtown Cambridge with all of its amenities. With minimal local traffic, walking, jogging, and bike riding are safe and pleasurable. The school and city park at the town end of Jenkins Creek Road have tennis and basketball courts, a baseball diamond, play areas for kids, and views of the Choptank river. All are a few minutes walk from our house. Also, because of our location, in the summertime you can explore the Cambridge area without the hassle of the beach traffic on Route 50.

Presidents' Weekend Getaway

Presidents' Weekend Getaway

My wife and I were looking for some lodging on the Eastern Shore. Based on the description, Baer Necessities (BN) fit the bill exactly. We all know there is the occasional slip between descriptions and reality. Not this time.

The bedrooms, baths, kitchen, great room, den and the hallways were attractively decorated, neat, and very clean. Reading lamps were in the bedrooms, the kitchen was well-stocked with spices, condiments, and, for all of us coffeeholics, a backup coffee maker in case of a primary failure. They even provided a dish of chocolates in the great room.

I occasionally have a complaint about a property because the electronics have not been tested out by the property manager before arrival or the instructions for the cable/tv/DVD/CD border on the incomprehensible. In this instance, all of the equipment worked as advertised and the instructions, while not needed, were clear. Speaking of instructions and tips, the house is full of them. Aside from obvious ones about not destroying the septic system or broiling yourself in the hot tub, my personal favorite was the one on the patio-style doors that let us know the screens were really hard to see.

The weather was basically rain, sleet and snow on our first day, so we enjoyed viewing the US-Russia hockey match on the big tv in the great room. We ventured forth in the late morning to survey the immediate area. The property is substantial and is right on Jenkins Creek. The scenery is classic Eastern Shore and that is a good thing. One warning, you need to be a fan of large, vocal birds if you are coming here. Lots of geese and ducks. I found them a pleasant change from hovering helicopters and emergency vehicles.

As for the general area, plan on spending time outdoors. Cambridge does have a nice downtown with a variety of shops, seafood restaurants, and a new brewpub that deserves the support of locals and tourists alike. A walking tour of the marina is enjoyable.

Another reason we chose BN is it is about 30 minutes from Blackwater National Refuge. Again, lots of big, chatty birds,as well as the Delmarva Fox Squirrel, that may be seen by driving, biking, or walking.

Communication with the property owners, the Baers, was easy and prompt. We chose to text, but they responded quickly to emails and voice mail as well. They are excellent hosts.

To recap, if your interests and party size fit the parameters of BN, I recommend you give this property your strongest consideration.

Second visit as great at the first

This was the second time we rented this property and we enjoyed it was much or more than the first. It felt like home as soon as we pulled into the drive. The property is as descibed and the owners have paid great attention to detail. The location is perfect - water views and close to town. The owners were easy to deal with and we would not hesitate to rent this property again. Thanks for sharing your home!

Christmas at Baer Necessities

My husband and I wanted a quiet getaway for Christmas this year and we certainly picked the perfect spot! The home was clean and well supplied. We enjoyed the use of the fireplace on those cold winter nights. We had plenty of wood chopped and ready to use. We even had a Christmas decorations displayed, which was a very nice touch.

The owners, Lauren and Teri, were most attentive to our questions and concerns. There were a number of notes posted throughout the house to guide us in turning on heat, using the TV and DVD player, locking doors, etc. It was certainly made apparent to us that the owners of this property are concerned about all the details that go into a comfortable and enjoyable stay in their home.

We felt welcome in this beautiful home and look forward to staying again during the warmer months.

Baer Necessities is wonderful!

Thanks to the owners for opening up their beautiful home for our 5 day stay in Cambridge. The house is so much more than the pictures show! The huge yard and waterfront with dock make you feel like you are in your own little paradise. Very quiet end of the street location. The house is stocked with everything you could need - wonderful appliances, supplies, games and tvs, and plenty of fire wood if you come when it is cold. The beds are so comfortable and the den is cozy with it's pull out bed if anyone needs it. We can't wait to come visit when it is warm and the porch, pool and dock can be a part of our stay. We loved watching the hundreds of geese each morning as they flew in and out - so peaceful. If you need to visit the Cambridge area you must stay here! It is a 3 minute drive in to the town for lots to see and do. We would recommend this property to anyone - come and relax - you won't be disappointed. We will be back!

Review of Home on Jenkins Creek

I recently enjoyed a 4 night stay at the property and the house was warm and cozy. I wondered some mornings if I was in a wild life sanctuary from all the sounds of all the birds. The house did not have everything, it just had everything you needed, from fishing poles and bait to gourmet cookware. A perfect place for a family to spend a vacation. Much warmer than a hotel, and many more activities. I would recommend this property for any family or couple.
