For years we crossed the Choptank River bridge and drove through Cambridge on our way to vacations in Ocean City and were intrigued by its quaintness. Over the past several years we spent a few long weekends exploring the area, decided to purchase a home, and found our property on Jenkins Creek. Although we may eventually retire here, until that time arrives we've decided to share our home as a vacation property. We hope you enjoy our home and the Cambridge area as much as we do!

Although located at the end of Jenkins Creek Road overlooking the water and surrounded by farmland and exclusive properties, our home is only moments from downtown Cambridge with all of its amenities. With minimal local traffic, walking, jogging, and bike riding are safe and pleasurable. The school and city park at the town end of Jenkins Creek Road have tennis and basketball courts, a baseball diamond, play areas for kids, and views of the Choptank river. All are a few minutes walk from our house. Also, because of our location, in the summertime you can explore the Cambridge area without the hassle of the beach traffic on Route 50.

Seeking peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5
Well-maintained, clean, comfortable home with every convenience one could need. Nice layout - all on one level. Pool, hot tub and pool floats a big plus. Lots of birds visible from the dock including nesting osprey. Very quiet and peaceful. Lots to do in the area - Blackwater Wildlife Refuge is must for bald eagles. St. Michael's is a charming Chesapeake town.

Peace and relaxation!

  • 5 of 5
This was our second year staying at Baer Necessities, and we enjoyed it even more than the first time. There's plenty to do and see in the area, and plenty of ways to relax as well. Sitting on the dock at night looking at the stars was one of our favorites this year. We also enjoyed canoeing, hiking in the wildlife refuge, and of course eating crabs! The kids had plenty to do and kept busy on our one rainy day with the games and books provided, as well as ping pong in the game room! The kitchen is a sheer joy if you love cooking, too!

Great family vacation for both kids and adults

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Baer Necessities the last week in June 2014 for our family vacation (kids 7, 5 years). The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed during our entire week, from pool toys to cookware. The property has plenty of great yard space and a spacious pool area where we spent most of our days playing sports or swimming with the kids. The location is great because you have no problem letting the kids run around outside all day long. After we put the kids to bed, Jessie and I would head out to the dock for some time to ourselves. The sunsets from the dock were great and we would fish for several hours after dark. We caught at least a dozen good-sized catfish (3-8 lbs) and kept 4 for a fish-fry one night. We also got some perch, an eel, and a skate.

Between days in the pool and yard, nights at the dock, and the occasional trip to town for bait or ice cream, we had everything we needed without having to plan other activities or drive in the car for more than 10 minutes. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the outdoors, wants to relax but still have activities without spending additional time traveling. If you are interested in fishing, you can buy peeler crabs from TL Morris Seafood (just over the Choptank river bridge). We caught everything using those as bait.

Thank you Teri and Lauren for sharing your home with us!

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5
We had another wonderful time at Baer Necessities this year. Just as it was last year, BN was immaculately clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The owners are generous and kind-hearted people who truly take pleasure in making sure their guests have everything they need to have the very best time possible. One of my favorite characteristics of BN is that the kitchen is fully equipped for any kind of cooking you may want to do. Our family opted to make a steam-pot dinner one night with the fresh seafood offerings right down the road at Kool Ice & Seafood. We bought the seafood and the groceries, and BN provided the propane-powered steam-pot. They really do have everything! The meal was so delicious and relaxing -- ate it on the screen porch while watching the blue heron fish for his own dinner -- we did it the next night as well. Perfectly relaxing and delicious.

My husband and son had great fun and much success fishing off of the dock. They caught sizable catfish and . . . eel! The eel provided lots of excitement and an air of the exotic. ;-)

I did some shopping in the old-fashioned downtown shops. It is nice to see these new shops popping up. A few very nice consignment shops, a thrift shop, and some lovely souvenir and boutique-types stores as well.

We also had fun in the swimming in the pool, soaking in the hot tub, and breezing along on the bicycles. We didn't want for anything.

Thank you, Baer Necessities, for sharing your fabulous place with us. We always have such a relaxing time. The place is so clean and comfortable that it truly is a getaway and pure relaxation for us. We absolutely cannot wait to be back next year.

Awesome Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I just spent the most relaxing weekend at Baer Necessities. The house is so beautiful and has everything we needed. The kitchen is full of spices and all the necessary appliances to cook our meals. We loved eating crabs on the screened in porch.
The outdoors is even more beautiful with a huge pool and super relaxing hot tub. There are awesome views of the river from anywhere on the property.
We bought crabs from TL Morris (recommended by Teri and Lauren) and they were delicious. Baer Necessities is absolutely the best vacation location ever.
Thank you Teri and Lauren for making our stay so cozy and comfortable. We are all so excited for our week long vacation this summer!!

Wonderful spring weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5
Our group of six friends were heading to the St. Michaels area for a sunset sailing cruise and decided to make a weekend of it. We came across the listing for Baer Necessities and it seemed to fit our criteria perfectly so we booked the weekend. As our trip approached, the homeowners were in touch just the right amount so that we had all the information we needed, and upon arrival we found that much thought had gone into making the home comfortable and inviting. Pretty much any time we thought of something that would be nice we found that Teri and Lauren had already thought of it ahead of us and provided for it. Chairs beside a wonderful pond, a bench on the pier, comfortable seating on the screened porch, a fire laid in the fireplace, a spa tub ready to go, a wonderfully stocked kitchen....the list goes on. I believe we will all be back, as separate couples or perhaps as a group again in the future. It's definitely a new favorite retreat location.
