Truly magnificent renovated period house in a wonderful location, 5-mins walk from the centre of the quaint historic Dalkey village, an historic village beside the sea.

Dalkey is one of the most prestigious suburbs in Dublin and is also known as 'Bel-Eire' and is home to celebrities including Bono and The Edge of U2, Enya and Van Morrison.

There are fabulous walks in the area along the coast and also up on Killiney and Dalkey Hills (10-mins from house) which both offer fantastic views across of the City across Dublin Bay.

Dalkey is renowned for its fantastic selection of friendly pubs and restaurants - to suit all tastes and budgets - galleries, coffee shops, book shops as well as its own heritage centre.

Dalkey Dart station is 5-mins walk from the house and offers excellent, reliable transport by train to all of the museums, theatres, shopping, tourist attractions, pubs and restaurants in Dublin City Centre. The journey takes about 30 mins and there are trains every 10 minutes or so - more frequently at peak periods.

There is also a regular direct private shuttle bus service from Dublin Airport to Dalkey.

Luxurious, spacious comfortable period house completely renovated 3 years ago.

There are two interconnecting living rooms on the ground floor, both with really comfortable chairs and sofas for relaxing in and each with an original marble fireplace with 'real-fire' effect gas fire for instant heat and cosy atmosphere. One of the living rooms has double glass doors connecting it to the super family kitchen which has granite worktops, fully integrated appliances and a big electric range as well as a large table which seats 8 very comfortably. There are 2 sets of double glazed doors opening onto the fully tiled patio area, and from there a step leads up to the deck with sea views - the perfect peaceful spot for unwinding after a busy day. A half-bathroom off the large hallway completes the ground floor. Upstairs there are four bedrooms. The master on the top floor has double glass doors leading out onto a small balcony with views across Dublin Bay to Howth as well as a fully tiled shower-room with a power shower. The remaining three bedrooms are off the bright main landing (which has a double height atrium with roof-light above). Bedroom number 2 has a double bed. The third bedroom room has a single bed plus a pull out bed if required. The fourth bedroom has twin beds (The pull out bed can be relocated here if required). There is a fully tiled family bathroom with bath and a separate power shower completing the upstairs accommodation.

This really is a magnificent, luxurious home ideal for a relaxing holiday in a wonderful, convenient location.

Wonderful property!

We could not have picked a better place for a week exploring Dublin and the surrounding area. The property is pleasant, quiet and with views of the Irish Sea. The owner was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. There are also beautiful flowers on the back deck and the kitchen is enormous and airy. We were very comfortable with two pre-teens and my mother in law too. The property has that antique, homey feel and it was hard to say goodbye at the end of our holiday. Dalkey itself is a beautiful village with very warm local inhabitants. It is a short walk to the DART station as well as to ATMS, shops, cafes...etc. We cannot wait to return! Thank you Ken!

We had a wonderful stay in this very comfortable and attractive home in Dalkey. It is walking distance to some excellent restaurants and pubs. Nice village feel but easy access to Dublin city center on the DART. The owner is very friendly and gave us lots of helpful information. There are very nice walks providing lovely views of Dalkey Isalnd and the bay. I recommend this property.

Super house and location

We came to Ireland this March and decided to do a short visit to Dublin before heading to Galway for St. Patrick's Day. It was a fantastic idea! Dalkey is an ideal location as it is a beautiful town beside the sea with lovely local hill walks. You can get the tram into the city centre and be in Trinity College within 30 minutes. We were able to eat out in the local restaurants in the evening (there are plenty to choose from!) or invite some friends living in Dublin over to dinner in the lovely, spacious kitchen. Ken kindly offered the use of his additional 'wedgewood plates' (of which there are plenty) to use if we needed. We loved this old house. It has four lovely bedrooms -the beds were very comfy! Two rooms have balconies with views over the sea - but not a great idea for young kids. Downstairs there are three living areas - but we spent most of our time in the super, bright, spacious kitchen with a big double oven and all other things we needed - towels, spare linen, dishwasher tablets etc. It was really clean and bright. Our only negative would be the off street parking which can be busy as the house is near a local school. Ken told us that we could park in the school when it is very busy. However, we would now say that a car would not be necessary for those only planning to visit Dublin itself. We would really recommend this house and location for any travellers planning a stay in Dublin.

What a shame

After reading the excellent reviews we booked to stay for 5 nights, for a family celebration (we're from the area but living in UK). The house really is excellently located - just a hop and a skip from Dalkey with everything on its doorstep. However when we got there at about 3 pm on the Friday, the house looked as though it had not been cleaned in months. We called Ken who said he or the cleaner would do what he could, but when we got back at 7 pm there was not much difference. Some hoovering and dusting had been done, but still mouse droppings in the kitchen and toilet cupboards, grimey surfaces, carpets matted in the bedrooms, rubbish in the kitchen bin etc. Some bits of the house were ok, but it had the overall sense of not being maintained. We basically had to scour the kitchen and bathrooms ourselves before we could use them. The whole place would benefit from a professional deep clean, getting the electrics sorted out (inside lights keep tripping, outside lights not working at all). A real shame as we had hoped to use this as a bolthole when in Dublin.

Owner's Response: We cannot believe that after years of renting and many, many happy guests that we have had our first negative review! We have a number of rental properties and are used to constantly meeting the high expectations of our guests and understand that cleanliness is an absolutely fundamental requirement. We were not expecting a bad review as we had gone back in to double check the cleanliness after Sinead arrived – incidentally sending a text message saying “we’re in, it’s great”. We thought all had been resolved and had no idea that there was still any issue until after Sinead left and asked for a discount on the final bill. If Sinead had raised any concerns during her stay these would of course have been dealt with. We will certainly check the electrics. We are delighted that all our other guests have been thrilled with the house - its location, character, convenience to the historic village and the DART – and its cleanliness! We hope that the number of satisfied guests since 2011 speak for themselves.

Adorable house, Fantastic location!

After a difficult travel experience from the US to Dublin (via Manchester, thanks to high winds) we were warmly welcomed at this gracious home in Dalkey! There was plenty of space for the 7 of us (4 adults, 1 teen & 2 rambunctious boys). We spent most of our time in the livingroom by the warm fire and the large kitchen. The view from the 3rd floor was amazing! Ah to wake up with a view of the sea each morning, unforgettable.

The location was ideal- literally a 5 minute walk around the corner to the village of Dalkey. We ate many meals at restaurants around there, but we also bought groceries at the SuperValu shop right in town. The DART station is right there too- we used it often, but also had a rental car (easy parking right behind the house).

Ken and his wife were lovely hosts and we thank them for providing us with this great home!

Dalkey is a beautiful heritage town situated between the sea and a hill only 9km from Dublin City Centre. Within the town there many shops - supermarket, pharmacies, restaurants, bars, delicatessens and cafes as well as churches, railway station and a bus stop. There is also a heritage centre. The train station (2 min walk from the house) has a direct train to Dublin city centre. There is also a direct bus link to the airport.

Dalkey is close to some of Dublin finest beaches like Sandycove the bathing site for Dubliners for centuries, where Joyce lived and set some of his works (Tower & Museum)

Notes:
The back garden has lateral sea views. It is lovely to sit out on the deck and enjoy a coffee or lunch there watching the boats go by. You can also spend time on the two small balconies looking out over Dublin Bay. We also get a lot of positive feedback from our guests about our eat in kitchen which leads directly to the back garden.
