Peaks Island House Rental Photos and Description
House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)
We plan to sell our home in 2015, in order to sail around the world on a sailboat. This home was custom-built in 1989 and renovated in 2010. It has high ceilings, 4 bed rooms (plus studio), each bedroom has with a queen bed. There are 2 baths, hall library, screened east porch, lounging deck with bar, and versatile entry gallery. The first floor opens from the kitchen into enchantingly private (and fenced) gardens. The open concept first floor is adaptable to a variety of activities, and can be opened into a large common areas, or closed into several private nooks. There several comfy couches. The attic is not available for guests. There is a guest cabin in the garden that can be available to guests, please ask. Guests are invited to enjoy the fire pit, pick the organically grown flowers, vegetables, herbs, fruits, rose, and enjoy whatever is in season. This home has hosted weddings, reunions and babyshowers, and it has a peaceful sturdy energy.
The garden kitchen has new stainless appliances, plenty of pantry space, granite tile hallway, hardwood floors, douglas fir beams and southern yellow pine extra high ceilings (9’5”) cobblestone chimney and gas fireplace. This very sturdy and energy efficient home makes a delightful center of operations for a family wedding. Yes, it is very well set up for nicely behaved dogs, and yes, help for a hostess is available.
Let us know in advance about your wedding and we'll plan the garden accordingly! Depending on when you stay, you might be enjoying peonies, lilacs, roses, lavendar, sweet peas, grapes, red raspberries, fresh lettuce etc!
We live nearby -- mostly on our boat--so we can customize your services. If you want to be left alone, you won't see us, but if you want to go for a cruise around the bay? Want us to cook your lobsters? We'll turn you into islanders, just give us a call and let us know what you need.
This house is set in a private fenced in garden in the middle of the island, at the quiet heart of island trails and recreational open-space. It is very quiet, a lovely place to have a bar-b-que or rehearsal dinner, yet only a ten minute walk to just about everything. Returning guests? We can grandfather your rate. Just ask!

About The Owner
We built this house in 1989, and raised our children here. We also grew lots of flowers and herbs (sold organic cut flowers to mainland florists) and we also grew a lot of our own food. Now our kids are in their early 20's and we are seeking new adventures, so after 25 years on Peaks Island, we bought a farm and moved to Bowdoinham Maine in 2010. And... then we realized that was a mistake! We missed the island! So we sold that 20 acre farm two years and two days after we bought it, and moved back onto the island, where our organic 1.5 acre island gardens are just as productive! We also have a teeny sweet cottage on the next street over, and we are sometimes there, but most of the summer we live on our boat. We're getting ready to sail the world, and so we plan to put the family-size house up for sale in fall of 2014 (hint hint, if you want to buy it let us know! Currently we do not plan on renting it in 2015). If anything, let us know. We're not located far away and we would be happy to help you with flowers, food, bonfire or lobster bake. Want to go for a sail? Let us know! Our son-in-law charters their boat and can take you for a ride out on the bay, and we are always happy to meet up with guests for a wine and cheese sunset on our Banjer 37.

Why The Owner chose Peaks Island
Our gardens are really nice. You can pick mint, blackberries, peaches, peonies, lavendar, you can lay on the private deck in the sun or sit in the screened shady east porch and read a book. This is a quiet comfortable private house, with plenty of shared and private spaces.
What makes this house unique
Peaks Island is a small community. You might not know anyone, but we know practically everyone (and that's why we choose our house guests carefully)! In spite of what it might look like, Peaks Island isn't a tourist town, it is a very close knit community. Even the summer people come back, year after year. You'll be back! People will remember your name! The island is beautiful, great to bike and swim and sail, amazing birds, beautiful gardens, but it is the social life that makes Peaks Island special. Peaks Islanders are smart, creative, worldly, friendly. You'll notice that islanders wave. That's real. If you slow down and say hi, they'll probably ask you if you play a musical instrument, how old your kids are and then they will tell you where the potluck and bonfire is going to be. Peaks Islanders LOVE children, and it is a fantastic place to be a child, and it's also a fantastic place to be a Nana and a Grampa! That's us! We are grandparents now! If you have babies and are wondering when playgroup happens or what's happening on the island for children, we'd be happy to give you the scoop, just ask.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Hello, sadly it's the end of our stay! There was a big storm the other night -- you'll find a large branch in the yard. Also, a family of raccoons has been feasting on the grapes. We are leaving our bags for a while, going for a swim and waiting for the boat, we'll be back to get the bags at 2. Thanks!
