HOME OF THE HULA MOON

Stately and serene, HULA MOON sits on one of the most beautiful oceanfront properties in Puako. Each bedroom has a perfect ocean view. Located near the end of the road, you will enjoy year-round sunsets and privacy. As you enter through the gates, lush tropical plantings enhance the large courtyard swimming pool and generous lanai. Designed so that every room has a magnificent view of the ocean, you will love the open and airy feeling of this 5000 square foot contemporary home. HULA MOON was designed for gracious living in a relaxed atmosphere. Including the covered lanais you have almost 7000 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space. The two-story Great Room is breezy and inviting with wonderful views of the ocean. The beautiful oceanside lanai has a dining table for 8, seating for an additional 12 guests, and a built-in wet bar. Enjoy watching the humpback whales in season, spinner dolphins and green sea turtles from everywhere in the house. The Puako reef offers some of the best snorkeling and walk-in scuba diving on the Big Island.

We have four large bedrooms located at opposite ends of the house for maximum privacy. The Kona and Kohala suites are on the main floor and both have stunning ocean views and doors that open onto the lanai. Each suite has been beautifully appointed with new King mattresses and linens. Both have large bathrooms with a separate dressing area and a large open-air shower filled with sculpture and tropical plants.

The two spacious upstairs bedrooms have expansive ocean views and a private lanai that runs the length of the house. The Aloha suite has a new King bed and two plantation chairs for relaxing. The Turtle suite has new Twin beds (that can be made into a King Bed) and a daybed 'trundle bed' that also has an additional lower twin mattress. The Turtle suite is a great room choice for the kids or for parents with a couple of children. Of course, it is also perfect for a couple or for several friends to share. Both upstairs bedrooms have private bathrooms with large walk-in showers.

Each bedroom has a TV/DVD player and an iPod speaker dock. There are 6 televisions with premium cable channels throughout the house. We do not have air conditioning because the home was designed to 'breathe' and to take advantage of the steady ocean breeze and the winds coming off the mountain. This provides excellent cross ventilation. There are ceiling fans and louvered windows in every room. It remains cool and comfortable and every bed has a blanket plus a quilt or comforter which guests usually need at night.

If you have business to attend to, we have a great Wi-Fi connection, and several work stations. The upstairs double office has a printer that you are welcome to use. And a punee (Hawaiian lounging bed) for relaxing.

Daily housekeeping, private yoga lessons, in-home massage, kayak rentals, and more can be arranged through our concierge. Just ask and we will do our best to help you make the arrangements for your perfect Puako experience!

I came to Puako 30 years ago. The homes are larger now, but the community retains its laid-back friendly atmosphere. There is something magical about the Big Island and if you spend a little while in Puako you will feel the 'mana' and aloha spirit of this special location.

This is a beautiful home. Every bedroom and living space has a fabulous ocean view and we have excellent cross ventilation throughout. The pool area is protected so it is warm and sunny. We are not located near a public beach access so our house is very private and more secure.

Puako has the finest sunny and dry climate year round. The reef is healthy and wonderful.

Our home was built so that every bedroom has a gorgeous ocean view. The home is perfect for four couples or for a large family group. There is almost 7000 sq. ft. of indoor/outdoor living so you can always find a private place to relax. We enjoy year-round sunsets and quiet friendly neighbors.

We swim in front of the house with manta rays, and dolphins, and buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen at the nearby harbor. We get freshly baked bread and organic produce at the Waimea farmers' market and buy orchid plants and fresh papayas from a woman down the road.

Lucky, Lucky me - I celebrated my 60th birthday with my family at Hula Moon!! The home is perfect - it has everything. Niki was incredibly helpful with directions, activities, and arrangements that included massages and even a chef who prepared my amazing birthday dinner.
Secluded, yet close to shopping, restaurants and tourist attractions. We are already planning our next stay at Hula Moon!

Fantastic!

I've been to the Big Island many times, and I have to say that this is an exceptional property - beautifully maintained, quiet and very comfortable. We wanted for nothing and enjoyed everything about it! There was plenty of room for our family of 10 to spread out and relax. The home is so well appointed - it's apparent that a lot of thought and care went into preparing this property for rental. The showers are a special treat! Our children had lots of fun snorkeling, exploring the tide pools and watching the turtles from the back yard. I would highly recommend this property, and we sincerely hope to return to the beautiful Home of the Hula Moon soon! Mahalo!!!

Perfect in Puako

We are soooo happy that we picked the Home Of The Hula Moon in Puako. It was hard to decide, there were several big houses, but we made the right choice for us and we LOVE this place!! Big house, big rooms, big views, big fun. Loved every minute and found it hard to ever leave. House is even better in person. Super helpful owners and staff. We are already planning a return trip for 2015. Thank you, thank you.

Wonderful week with siblings...

My husband and I came to the Big Island for a get away with my brothers and their wives. Home of the Hula Moon was the perfect oasis for our visit. It has four king bedroom/bath combos which gave each couple welcome privacy.
The kitchen was awesome with a very nice grill just outside. We cooked dinner in on four different evenings. Enjoyed wonderful meals on the lanai looking out over the ocean. (Picked up fresh fish at the fish market a few miles up the road) Spent several hours in the same spot each morning drinking coffee and watching the whales! They put on quite a show for us-wonderful entertainment! We also enjoyed wading in the tide pools out front. Saw many sea turtles every day!
The Puako area is a very peaceful area to stay. Make sure you visit the General Store during your stay-they carry more supplies than you would believe and are competitively priced. Also recommend a visit to the Red Water Cafe in Waimea. No view but we had a great meal there our last evening! Thanks for recommending it to us Niki!
Overall, we were thrilled with our stay at the Hula Moon. It is a lovely and very clean, comfortable property. Look forward to a return visit some day!

stress reduction office trip

in canton ohio during the snowy season, I decided to take the office staff with spouses to hawaii.

the trip was to reduce stress and build relationships. I took a chef and the comments from her about how well stocked the kitchen was repeated several times. " designed by someone whom cooks" she was amazed at the pantry And the supplies. 40 minutes away was Costco in kona, on the owners suggestion I opened a membership and was able to purchase food for the group. do not forget the local market on Wednesday to freshen up the pantry.

the backyard was the highlight!!!! a wine cooler with large table was great for breakfast and evenings. the whales are in season and we were able to see them daily just out to sea!!! the turtles in the tidal pools swimming right with you!!! amazing serenity.

do not like the ocean water, try the pool which was large for a house. the wind from the beach was not there, but was barely used.

the abundance of supplies; snorkel, beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, spices, computer printer, free internet, was amazing for a rental. I travel the world and this was the best stocked house ever.

my wife did not travel this time, I slept in the office bed located in the loft. this also was comfortable.


location location location!!!! secluded and private, but beaches and golf are within 15 minutes .

office staff was refreshed; 10 people but enough privacy you are not overwhelmed.

The PERFECT Big Island Vacation Spot

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 6 days and were simply BLOWN AWAY by this EXTRAORDINARY property. Every single room has a stunning ocean view, the property is quiet and feels secluded yet you are walking distance from a variety of beaches, snorkeling/scuba diving locations and the ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs sites. The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living room were fully stocked with anything you could imagine (cooking materials/ingredients, towels, DVDs etc.) The owners are timely, incredibly clean and truly willing to make your stay one of a kind. Every morning we would make breakfast and eat out on the backyard porch where we would watch sea turtles sun bath, we would then walk to the beach access where we snorkeled and boogie boarded. We used the outdoor grill every single night and were able to enjoy our dinner outside at the huge dinner table. The serenity of the house is incredibly relaxing and was WITHOUT A DOUBT the most INCREDIBLE vacation we have had to date. Thank you so much for letting us stay at your house. There is no doubt in my mind that we will be back!

Puako is quite possibly the sunniest spot on the Big Island. Blessed with a dry climate and pristine water, Puako remains a top destination for travellers seeking a perfect beach location. Early Polynesians considered it a spot with strong 'mana' or spirit, and carved numerous petroglyphs in the fields near our home. Surfers love the winter surf at nearby Paniau, a five minute walk from our home, and children will love the tide pools where the sea turtles rest each evening. Puako is a family neighborhood which was originally homesteaded in the 1950's. The Aloha Spirit is strong and you will love being part of this small friendly community. Puako is a short 25 minute drive north of the KONA Airport. Exclusive resorts with spas, restaurants, tennis and golf courses are a 10 minute drive from Puako. Relax or do everything!
