HOME OF THE HULA MOON

Stately and serene, HULA MOON sits on one of the most beautiful oceanfront properties in Puako. Located near the end of the road, you will enjoy year-round sunsets and privacy. As you enter through the gates, lush tropical plantings enhance the large courtyard swimming pool and generous lanai. Designed so that every room has a magnificent view of the ocean, you will love the open and airy feeling of this 5000 square foot contemporary home. HULA MOON was designed for gracious living in a relaxed atmosphere. Including the covered lanais you have almost 7000 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space. The two-story Great Room is breezy and inviting with wonderful views of the ocean. The beautiful oceanside lanai has a dining table for 8, seating for an additional 12 guests, and a built-in wet bar. Enjoy watching the humpback whales in season, spinner dolphins and green sea turtles from everywhere in the house. The Puako reef offers some of the best snorkeling and walk-in scuba diving on the Big Island. .

We have four large bedrooms located at opposite ends of the house for maximum privacy. The Kona and Kohala suites are on the main floor and both have stunning ocean views and doors that open onto the lanai. Each suite has been beautifully appointed with new King mattresses and linens. Both have large bathrooms with a separate dressing area and a large open-air shower filled with sculpture and tropical plants.

The two spacious upstairs bedrooms have expansive ocean views and a private lanai that runs the length of the house. The Aloha suite has a new King bed and two plantation chairs for relaxing. The Turtle suite has newTwin beds and a daybed with a trundle. The Twins can be converted into a comfortable King bed if you request it. Both have private bathrooms with large tile showers that offer views of the pool and garden.

Each bedroom has a TV/DVD player and an iPod speaker dock. There are 6 televisions with premium cable channels throughout the house.

If you have business to attend to, we have Wi-Fi, and several work stations. The upstairs double office has a printer that you are welcome to use. And a punee (Hawaiian lounging bed) for relaxing.

Daily housekeeping, private yoga lessons, in-home massage, kayak rentals, and more can be arranged through our concierge. Just ask and we will do our best to help you make the arrangements for your perfect Puako experience!

I came to Puako 30 years ago. The homes are larger now, but the community retains its laid-back friendly atmosphere. There is something magical about the Big Island and if you spend a little while in Puako you will feel the 'mana' and aloha spirit of this special location.

Why Christian or Niki chose Puako

This is a beautiful home. Every bedroom and living space has a fabulous ocean view and we have excellent cross ventilation throughout. The pool area is protected so it is warm and sunny. We are not located near a public beach access so our house is very private and more secure.

What makes this estate unique

Puako has the finest sunny and dry climate year round. The reef is healthy and wonderful.

Our home was built so that every bedroom has a perfect ocean view. The home is perfect for four couples or for a large family group. There is almost 7000 sq. ft. of indoor/outdoor living so you can always find a private place to relax. We enjoy year-round sunsets and quiet friendly neighbors.

We swim in front of the house with manta rays, and dolphins, and buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen at the nearby harbor. We get freshly baked bread and organic produce at the Waimea farmers' market and buy orchid plants and fresh papayas from a woman down the road.

Puako is quite possibly the sunniest spot on the Big Island. Blessed with a dry climate and pristine water, Puako remains a top destination for travellers seeking a perfect beach location. The Puako reef is alive with fish, green sea turtles, eagle and manta rays, dolphins, and whales during the winter season. Early Polynesians considered it a spot with strong 'mana' or spirit, and carved numerous petroglyphs in the fields near our home. Surfers love the winter surf at nearby Paniau, a five minute walk from our home, and children will love the tide pools where the sea turtles rest each evening. Puako is a family neighborhood which was originally homesteaded in the 1950's. The Aloha Spirit is strong and you will love being part of this small friendly community. Puako is a short 25 minute drive north of the KONA Airport. Exclusive resorts with spas, restaurants, tennis and golf courses are a 10 minute drive from Puako. Relax or do everything!

Immaculate and Beautiful and Great Views!!!

This is a wonderful vacation home and even the name, Home of the Hula moon, is romantic. We arrived after a long flight and when we walked through the gates and into the courtyard we thought we were in paradise. The flowering trees and everything were reflected in the swimming pool and the birds were singing. The house itself is large and grand and as we came in the front doors, there was the pacific ocean, right in front of us. The house was really clean. Turtles on the black rocks, wild turkeys on the lawn by the ocean, the staff was super nice. After 2 days, I felt like we lived here so it was different and better than a hotel/resort vacation where you are always a tourist. We give this home 5 stars, make that 10 stars, it is twice as good as it looks it the photos. It is perfection. Big Mahalo to the owners for letting us enjoy it for a week.

The Art, Furnishings and Design are so Welcoming

Whenever we left Hula Moon, we would joyfully return each day for swimming, sunsets and dinners on the lanai. Thank you for sharing your home in paradise with us. The art, furnishings, and design are so welcoming.

Our son was married on the beach at the Four Season's Resort this week. He and his Hawaiian wife will live in Honolulu. Our new in-laws rented a home in Puako too, it was a lovely wedding week...we enjoyed relaxing at the Home of the Hula Moon. Many whales, geckos, and lovely birds were seen. Golf at 3 different resorts was challenging. Hapuna Beach was fun for playing in the waves and sandcastle making. The manta ray dive in Kona was magical. Also, 4-wheel driving in Waipio Valley with our new in-laws and a waterfall hike.

What a fantastic house and location. We loved sitting and watching the waves, and we loved going to sleep to the sound of the waves. Turtles and whale viewing were a treat. The temperature was always perfect (Thanks for arranging that). The house & pool are well maintained; it shows! Thanks for a wonderful week.
