Encinitas House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)

This is an enchanted 1,000 square foot plantation style cottage situated within a 10,000 square foot lush tropical garden. The entire property has been designed with a high attention to detail. The house is fully furnished with Indonesian furniture and stocked with everything you would expect in your home. High ceilings, lots of light, great cookwares and luxurious linens!

What a place to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle in coastal Southern California. There are three outdoor living areas that provide amazing retreat and entrainment options. The outdoor wood fire is surrounded by deep seating to create the perfect evening garden lounge. The gas fireside dining deck provides a sunrise coffee venue or romantic fireside dining experience. Sink into to the Palapa spa for a cedar tub soak or surrender in the Palapa day bed for a siesta. Enjoy it all! These areas provide ample choices to fit your mood and really take you away from your daily life!

This is an ideal escape for 2-3 people (or 2 +/- 2 children) looking for a high quality resort property on a personal scale. Feel free to inquire about available services, activities and events. The house web site had more links and details too! Grab the bikes and ride to and along the beach or try longboarding on one of the surfboards! About Eric Hutchison

A native Southern California coastal resident for 40+ years! I have spent the past 20 years in North San Diego County enjoying the coastal community and environment as I will always be drawn to a western sunset! I have a 20+ year commercial real estate background with broad geographic coverage with a Global firm before starting my own firm in 2011, Commercial West Realty Advisors. Love traveling and using VRBO/Homeaway properties all over! Spend lots of time in Baja annoying the rugged country it offers at close range. Trail running in local mountains occupies much of my time as well. Just love that southern CA lifestyle so much....

Eric Hutchison purchased this house in 1999

Why Eric Hutchison chose Encinitas

I looked into Encinitas since it is a great beach town with tremendous locational benefits! Coastal access for surfing, trials for running (and beach) ease of access to the road systems, etc! Love the quiet neighborhood of eclectic homes dating back to the 30's! Large lot sizes allow for lots of land per house in comparison to any other coastal community!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for everything. We loved our stay at the "Hutch" and will be back again for sure. Your place, landscaping, and generosity are amazing. If only everyone were as friendly, hospitable and laid back as you... we could all just enjoy life a little more.

Reality meets fantasy

  • 5 of 5

I was looking to escape the Boston cold last winter and Encinitas seemed like a great place for a month-long business relocation and mind relocation. My wife researched 3 places on VRBO that looked promising. When I looked at the first one, the Tropical Plantation Beach Cottage, I decided that was the one. My wife pleaded with me to look at the other two because she had spent so much time talking with the owners, but my mind was made up.

Rarely does reality match expectations but when I arrived the cottage exceeded my already high expectations. If you were passing by it looks like a very nice house in a very nice quiet neighborhood. When you enter you are transported to a serene, amazing fantasy. From the huge palm trees lit at night, to the multiple fireplaces, to the comfortable canopied cushioned lounge in the back (with HI DEF TV and music) next to the private hot tub, this is the place dreams are made of.

When he is not off on some amazing adventure, Eric is like having a friendly, handy neighbor living close by along with his trusted companion Ono the dog. If you need him he is there, if you are fine on your own you will not see him.

I decided not to rent a car for my time in Encinitas and it was a great decision. I was able to walk just about anywhere I needed, which included the beach, a number of restaurants on Highway 101, the meditation gardens and the hardware store. Anytime I did not feel like walking I just used an Uber taxi, usually available within 2 minutes.

I could go on, but I think the best thing that I can say in a few words is that I booked up 2 months for the following year when I was checking out. Those two months happen to be coming real soon, as I will be checking in this year on January 1. My only fear in writing this review is that someone else might try to rent for January and February next year. Please do not do that or I will throw small rocks at your window. But feel free to inquire about the other 10 months. Enjoy.

Encinitas Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We chose the Plantation Beach House for a long anniversary weekend getaway in Encinitas. Upon arrival we found the home and property not only met the description from the website but actually exceeded, this is hard to believe because of how beautiful the photos are but it is true. The home is well equipped with high quality linens, audio video equipment and small gourmet kitchen. The property, though in a quiet subdivision is extremely private and secluded thanks to exquisite long term planting vision of the owner. The placement of palms and hedges makes one feels like they have stepped onto the grounds of a tropical resort. Night time is the biggest treat as the entire property is illuminated with accent lighting. Relaxing by the outdoor fireplace in evenings was most enjoyable. The street in front of the house is very quiet with few cars passing. The neighborhood in general is very quiet, we really heard nothing day or night even with the doors and windows open. The owner Eric was great to work with and is truly one of those owners who makes you feel like the home and property was "ours" during our stay. We have rented many VRBO homes and the Plantation Beach Cottage is one of if not the best we have stayed. We highly recommend this property and will definitely be back.

What a special place!!

  • 5 of 5

We visited with our 3 yr old daughter and this was the perfect get-away! Everything was as described and pictured on the website and the amenities were wonderful. The grounds, palapa, soaking tub and deck were beautiful and provided so many options for a spot to relax and just hang out. We loved having breakfast on the deck each morning and lounging on the palapa each night. Our daughter loved seeing Ono, the owner's super friendly black lab, which made us feel right at home. Eric was so helpful with local recommendations which offered us more of a local flavor. We will definitely be back again!

Romantic Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My family is big on Hawaiian vacations, however, after paying for a wedding, we knew that was out of the question, so we set about finding the next closest thing for a mini-honeymoon. The tropical Plantation Beach Cottage was it!

Between the lush and beautiful grounds, the decor inside, and the way it lit up at night, we knew we had found some place special. We loved the hot tub, the pilapa (we're definitely getting one just like when we get a home), the fire pit... it was all just wonderful, and we'd be happy to stay there again.

There are only two things I'd mention, neither of which are a big deal, but I like to be informative. The first is that the owner has an office on the grounds. He wasn't ever in it while we were there, so it didn't affect our privacy at all, but it should be noted (and it is mentioned in printout that is emailed to you when you book). The second issue is completely personal preference, but the bed was a little hard for us. It's simply a matter of us being used to super-soft and squishy beds at home, but it is something that came up.

However, those are tiny things compared to all the positives of the Beach Cottage, and neither would stop me from staying there again. Truly a great place to stay when you get the chance.

Excellent location and lovely cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely cottage was perfect for our relaxing vacation to Encinitas. It's located in a safe neighborhood - just a short walk to downtown Encinitas and to the ocean. We especially enjoyed having nightly wine/cheese by the outdoor fireplace in the front of the house - hidden from the street by a nice hedge and also the back-yard Palapa covered bed for afternoons spent reading and relaxing (zzz). Everything was as described on the website. Lofty Coffee was our favorite coffee shop for our daily coffee after a long walk along the coast. The bikes worked well to visit Cardiff by the Sea and have a great lunch at Los Olas Mexican restaurant. We highly recommend this cottage.
