About Steve McInturff, Owner

My wife and I have been married now for 37 years. We enjoy many outdoor activities. I fell in love with the water many years ago, and actually bought my first boat while working part time in college. While I enjoy hunting, I especially enjoy saltwater fishing. We also enjoy quiet time on the water, calm evenings at idle speed, watching and waiting for that beautiful sunset. We are members of the Gasparilla Krewe of Venus. We have a lot of fun throughout the year, at Krewe events as well as the many parades in which our Krewe is involved.

Steve McInturff, Owner purchased this house in 1998

Why Steve McInturff, Owner chose Anna Maria

My wife and I first visited Anna Maria Island in the mid 1980's. We immediately fell in love with the charm of the island, the soft white sugar sand beaches, clear and colorful water, friendly locals, quaint shops, casual restaurants, and overall island lifestyle. We made many visits to Anna Maria over the years, hoping that someday we would be able to buy a home there. That hope came true in 1998, and we have enjoyed ourselves and our time on the island immensely. Being unable to use our home as frequently as we would like, we have decided to offer our home as a vacation rental and we hope that our quests will enjoy their time there as much as we have.

What makes this house unique

It seems that the world stops when we are there. The everyday pressures we all face in life, on our jobs, and daily struggles seem to disappear. Life just slows down, and we start to appreciate more the gift of life, and the joys and rewards that our hard work and dedication has provided us. The sun, the water, the happy smiles of people we meet, just seem to take us to another internal place.

What can I say. Our stay was perfect. The location, the dock and availability of great fishing and beaches was just what we wanted. As if that was not enough the dining within 5 minutes of the house was excellent . Renting was easy and the house was just what we expected, maybe better. I would highly recommend this house especially to a boat owner. This is probably the best location on the island for for someone bringing their own boat. Great bay access and room for your trailer to. I hope to get back here in the future.

AMI Retreat

  • 5 of 5

You should not hesitate to rent this property. We have rented fine vacation homes in a number of areas and this met or exceeded all our expectations.

Two things stand out for us. The property owner is extremely helpful, responsive and goes out of his way to assist with any special needs or requests. This goes a long way with us. Don't underestimate how helpful this can be.

The second is the neighborhood. It is very private and secluded. It is also extremely close to the beach. There are many nice rentals on AMI but you will find few which provide the luxury, privacy and serenity of this home.

Basically everything you need for a relaxing time on AMI is here.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review, and for the care that you gave our property. It's always a pleasure to have guests who treat the property as if it were their own. The weather was wonderful during your stay, and had to be a pleasant departure from the cold and snowy weather up north. Having two weeks to chill is hard to beat, and I'm happy that you enjoyed your stay. I hope that you will plan another visit here, and that you will choose my property for your stay.

Second time also Great!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second year at this home. Beautiful setting, away from it all and a great time to slow down. We had 3 generations stay again. The layout gives a lot of privacy and comfort for all. Love the screened deck off the back for morning coffee. The dock was also nice to fish and even got to watch the dolphins one day. The beaches are my favorite, the fishing was my husbands favorite. The kids found another school of mackerel to fish. At night they caught a shark off the city pier. Thanks!

Owner's Response: It was good to have you back again this year. Sort of like coming home isn't it? I remember the pictures from last year, with the kids showing off their catch.....I could tell by their smiling faces that they were thrilled with their catch, and I also remember your comments about the tasty treat as it's hard to beat fresh fish on the grill when they were swimming just hours before. If you come again next year, remind me and I will give you some tips about crabbing. Crabbing can be soooo much fun, especially when it is a family adventure! Blue Crabs are easy to catch and are plentiful. Doesn't take a lot of equipment, just a long handle net, flashlights, and a catch pan. Once you have caught enough, return to the property. Make yourself a crab boil......sit on the dock and crack the shells, eating the tasty meat, picking it out with your fingers. Little butter for dipping......yummy. You won't get a tremendous amount of meat, but what you get will be tasty and so much fun the family had together doing it, well.....that's priceless. There's a lot of laughter among the catchers.....chasing the fast moving crabs along the water's edge....and also trying to get them out of the net, when their pincers are hanging on for dear life. LOL Kids love doing it.....Mom's and Dad's love watching and helping.....sometimes the best fun, is just simple, quality time together. I hope to see you again next year!!!

523 Seagull Way

  • 5 of 5

Great retreat for a large family or several couples. There's room for everyone to be together or do their own thing.

Direct access to the Bimini Bay makes it all the more enjoyable for fishing, kayaking or other power boat use. We brought our own kayaks and also rented an 18' runabout from Bradenton Marine. This kept several avid fishermen busy along with nightly shark fishing sessions at City Pier.

Owner's Response: Fishing around Anna Maria is always good, as there are so many choices as to the species to target. Having the Kayak's had to be fun, and when combined with Kayak fishing in Bimini Bay that can be a blast! Like everywhere else, fishing for certain species is going to be seasonal. However, fishing for Snook, Mangrove Snapper, Redfish (red drum), spotted sea trout, flounder, is pretty much year round. Late March-April, and Late September-Mid November is a great time to load the boat with King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel. Of course you can catch Spanish Mackerel just about any time. Pompano can easily be taken Spring and Summer along the beaches and passes. Fresh Pompano in the oven, skillet, or grill is hard to beat. Spring-Summer is also a great time to fish for Permit, which is in the Pompano family and can be caught close offshore over artificial reefs and wrecks. If you want the fight of your life, wait until you get a 20 plus pound Permit on the line using medium spinning tackle! Of course there's Tarpon. Tarpon start to migrate northward from the Keys and elsewhere in Mid to Late March. Early catches will be along the beaches....a little later the begin to hang out in the passes, and around the bridges. Best months to target them is in May and June, however they are around and in good numbers throughout the summer. Best advice for targeting a Tarpon is to hire a guide. The guides know where the fish are, have the right tackle and bait. It is a special thrill to have a 100-150 pound bucking bronco of a fish, going airborne, dancing on it's tail, and ripping off yards and yards of line! There's also a time Spring-Summer when Cobia can be your target species. Great eating fish, and one heck of a fight. As one can tell, I love to fish, and find myself daydreaming and wishing I were there. For those guests who simply want to relax, it's quiet and peaceful. The dock or back porch is a great place to sit and watch nature. Nesting Herons, Egrets, Spoonbills, Osprey's, Dolphin, and sometimes a Manatee.....I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, and I hope that you will book another visit.....

Best vacation yet!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Anna Maria and the first time we have brought our boat on vacation. The verdict is unanimous--best vacation yet! Honestly, the whole family is ready to relocate.

The property: Big, clean, comfortable. We're picky and this house does not disappoint. Plenty of room inside and out--more than we needed, but we enjoyed it--a larger group would be very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. Plenty of room in the driveway for cars + the boat trailer. The setting is private and has great views of Bimini bay from the dock and beautiful boats at Galati Yachts. We have 7 year old twins and we spent hours fishing off the dock.

Anna Maria and surrounding area: The island is everything we were expecting. As I mentioned we brought our boat with us. The 12,000 lb boat lift which was one of the primary reasons we selected this property. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed having the boat at the ready--we used it every day for a different adventure. Sitting anchored on the gulf side of Egmont in crystal clear water is simply a different world. Running down to Mar Vista on Longboat for an early dinner and having multiple dolphin sightings within a few hundred yards of the restaurant pretty nice too. If you have a boat--bring it!

The owners: Steve was extremely helpful and knowledgable. Our boating experience had been exclusively inland lakes. Steve was very helpful in answering my questions about coastal boating as we prepared. Much appreciated!

Great property, great owner, great area--we'll be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a wonderful review! It makes me happy to know that you had such a good time, and certainly plan to return! The island IS a special place....in many ways, it's just a small village. No concrete high rises, shopping malls, car horns, and what have you. But rather a place that time seems to have passed by. Peaceful, pleasant, beautiful and stress free. Just the way I like it. I'm glad that you got to visit Egmont Key. There are times, especially on weekdays, when there are very few other boats there. Almost like you have a tropical island to yourself. I hope that you were able to visit Egmont around sunset, when the thousands of birds come to the south end (refuge) of the island to roost for the night. It's like something from National Geographics. Turn your motor off and sit quietly watching and listening to the sounds of nature. Truly remarkable. And the bonus is that glorious sunset! It's just doesn't get much better than that in my book. Thank you again for the review......don't be a stranger, come visit again.

Fabulous Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful place for a "girls' weekend with ladies ranging in age from mid twenties to mid eighties. It was spacious, beautiful, and quiet with everything we could have possibly wanted for cooking, eating, bathing, relaxing, etc., etc. The elevator was very helpful in getting luggage to and from the house. We were close to restaurants, shops, the beach; but in a very quiet location with no evidence anyone else was nearby. The water view of the boats was peaceful and relaxing. Everyone had a wonderful time and we would love to make this house our yearly getaway!

Owner's Response: Ahh....glad that you could get together and enjoy the property but more importantly enjoy each other! I have several buddies ranging in age from the 50's to the 80's. We try to get together as a "mens" group at least twice a year. It's always a lot of laughs, a few cocktails, and a bunch of lies. LOL.. I hope that when you plan your next getaway, that you will once again choose our place. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.....and I hope to see you back next year.
