Volcano Arenal House Rental Photos and Description

Home 2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms. Cabana 1 bedroom /1 bathroom

Following a year off for health reasons, and our sincere apologies to those unable to book, we are open again after March 1, 2014.

We are central, yet secluded, with patios, balconies and grounds looking on to the world famous Arenal Volcano. This Almendro home has a wrap-around balcony, is gated and very private.

We are near the charming town of La Fortuna, and our area is famous for its diversity of interests. These include bird watching, river rafting, jungle cruises, jungle canopy tours, butterfly farms, horseback riding, world famous spas and hot springs or relaxing and enjoying the best views of the spectacular Arenal Volcano. And because we are well located on the main road, all is within easy access

We have been a Bed and Breakfast for about 15 years, with excellent reviews in the guide books, Our housekeeper/cook Miriam is local, friendly, helpful and has developed a great reputation for her breakfasts, which you can read about in the reviews. She is the soul of the place.

Security: Although the property is on the main road, with easy access to all the local attractions, it is gated, fenced, on a partial rise, and thus very safe and private. The newly formed 'tourist police' make regular checks.

I'm a Canadian who came here in 1993 for a combination of adventure and investment. I built a home in La Palma overlooking Arenal Volcano, and because of the shortage of places for people to stay gradually became involved in tourism. It has been a wonderful experience meeting people from all over the world. When it comes to the wonders of nature, everyone reacts in a similar way. Awe, respect and wonder and delight.

Grant Carlson purchased this house in 1995

When I decided on Costa Rica as a place to live in and invest I knew very little, apart from its positive reputation. It was only later that I realized I needed a 'where' in Costa Rica. After driving around the country for a week or so I arrived in La Fortuna and immediately knew that this was where I wanted to be. It was something I still can't explain. I built the home, which eventually evolved into a B and B, about two years after arriving. I drove a fifth wheel down here from Vancouver and lived in that until the house was complete.

The Nicaraguan and Costa Rican people Ive become friends with over the years have enhanced my life immeasurably. As well. the climate, the greenery, fresh air, the birds and, of course, the volcano, all serve to make this area a very special place in the world.

Christine and Ian were awesome hosts that provided us with a wealth of information to help us decide on our desired adventures which we enjoyed oh so much. Miriam made an awesome breakfast each morning during our stay and is an excellent asset for this property. She deserves kuddos for her ability to cook and clean and perhaps an increase in her salary? :-) Thank you so very much for an awesome time.

You cannot ask for anything more: reasonably priced, safe, convenient, would go back for Miriam's breakfast right now! Feed the birds and you will enjoy the company of more than 30 different types of birds during breakfast. Fast internet like we did not have in the entire country; this house provided the comfort we needed after one week roughing it out in Sierpe and Tortuguero.

There were 8 of us: two couples one each in each of the master bedrooms and 4 preteens in the adjacent cabina. We hiked to the top of Cerro Chato and swam in the lake in its carter, ziplined thorugh and over the canopy, walked over hanging bridges, and went to The Springs (2 days for one ticket). And more. Also, the steak at Cascajos is outstanding. The house is close to everything -restaurants, attractions, spas- but not too close. And it offers the best views of the volcano.

The owner is a dear and lives close by for anything you may need. Take advantage of this property before it is sold!!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for that!!

Miriam, as you know, really deserves a lot of credit for making this place what it is, and I'll be sure to pass along your compliments.

All the very best from both of us, and thank you again!

This home was PERFECT for our group of 4 adults and two children! The lush gardens and spectacular view of the volcano were our favorite features. Christine and Ian were such wonderful and kind hosts and Miriam made a delicious breakfast with a big smile every morning. Breakfast was our favorite time of the day during our way too short 3-night stay. We stretched it out for hours, at the large and comfortable outdoor dining table, talking, watching the extensive variety of birds, listening to the toucans chatter, and watching the smoke puff out of the volcano. It was perfect. I have to add that the shower was also a favorite feature! My children LOVED all of the birds, watching the volcano while swinging on the two hammocks, and even the treat of getting to watch a movie upstairs one night while us adults played cards. Thank you so much for creating such a magical environment filled with love. We enjoyed every second!!!

Grant is very helpful and the property is gorgeous...centrally located between town and the Volcano/zip lining/hiking. The porch has the perfect vantage point to catch a glimpse of Volcan Arenal and is even beautiful when the volcano is shrouded in clouds.
The house is spacious, good water pressure and very clean. We spent most of our time at the house on the porch, however the inside is well lit and comfortable.
Miriam is a wonderful cook and a very nice person.
We also had the casita which was great for the extra space and nice if you wanted to laze around away from a group.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Rob, and it was pleasure hosting you and your family.

All the very best,

Grant and Miriam.

Notes:
We have a housekeeper who will have everything prepared for your arrival. The house is situated on the Rio La Palma which is a short hike down to the bottom of the property. Across the small river, actually a large creek, is jungle. Monkeys visit regularly but at times known only to them. We have feeders so there are always plenty of birds around. Deer, wild boar, pesote, and other animals have also been sited. Of course there is an abundance of flowers as well. It s a very comfortable home which fits into the surrounding ambiance quite naturally. There are interesting views everywhere. It is private and enclosed yet near everything the area has to offer.
