I had a wonderful stay at the Kehena Beach Guesthouse! Completely agree with the reviews posted
in March and April of 2009; the place is even better than described by those guests. One of the
cleanest homes I've ever had the pleasure of visiting; the breakfasts were delicious and filling. Located about 1/2 mile from the coast, this dwelling is stylish and comfortable (and far enough inland to be safe from any tsunami!). An easy stroll through a pleasant neighborhood will take you down to beautiful sea cliffs with lots of shade, grassy clearings, and scenic vistas. During my stay I was not bothered at all by mosquitoes or other insects. The nights were quiet; I slept very well. There is WiFi for those of you with portable computers. My host was helpful and friendly, without being
intrusive; most of the time I felt like I was alone in the house. The grounds are nicely landscaped
with many interesting and pretty plants; a work in progress, it will only get better as the vegetation
matures. Staying here was one of the high points of my vacation. I hope to return someday.
Conveniently situated for exploring the Puna district, this home away from home will delight you!
Both Hilo and the Volcanoes National Park are within easy driving distance. There are farmers
markets, bakeries, cafes, coffee shops, and many other attractions less than 40 miles away. Be
sure to get a visitor's library card for only $10 if you are going to be in Hawaii for a week or longer;
books and CDs can be returned to any branch on any island. The best prices for 100% Kona
coffee (whole bean or ground) can be found in Hilo at the bigger stores. Don't be afraid to get food
from the roadside vendors; great stuff! I particularly enjoyed the lau lau. Take time to just hang
out at the guesthouse and relax. You'll be glad you did. The biggest mistake is trying to see too
many things in too little time; slow down and you will have a much better experience. You can
always come back again. I have been to this island 14 times since 1991 and I still find new things
to see and do! On my next trip I hope to live at the Kehena Beach Guesthouse for a week, instead
of only 3 nights. You will enjoy staying here.
