Why the Owner Chose San Pedro: Belize is a land of many different cultures living in an unusually harmonious way. English is the official language and the country is governed according to English Law. It is a land of astounding beauty, and one of the last parts of the Caribbean to be fully explored. We were mesmerized with the beauty of the Caribbean water, the sky and the island of Ambergris Caye. This was a place where we knew we wanted to be. Our varied backgrounds includes (among other professions) design and building, and we wanted to build a home that was a 'work of art and spirituality', to be shared with all who chose to visit.

Upon our arrival, it just all felt so welcoming and peaceful. A stunning property, beautifully sited, weather was exquisite, and we instantly felt at home.
Richard and Diana, our hosts, were absolutely lovely, so laid back, extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and respectful of our privacy. We loved our chats with them, and their sweet dog Hydro would greet us everymorning with his famous wiggle bum and smile!
Casa Rana is beautifully designed, very open, spacious, creative and functional for all.
The flow through breezes were gorgeous, we didn't have to turn on the AC!
This villa is very private, yet not islolated! Always peaceful, whether inside, or outside, enjoying the wonderful deck, plunge pool, walking the beach, sitting at the end of the pier under that incredible Palapa just enjoying the view!
For the adventurers there were lots of excursions, professionally arranged with the help of Richard and Diana, also snorkelling off the end of the pier, kayaking out to the reef, or fun walks along the beach to the local resort for happy hour!
The local restaurants, accessible by a short boat ride, were fabulous! We have travelled the Caribbean over 17 times, and the food we ate here was outstanding, all within a 10 minute boat ride, under the stars, with that glorious breeze! The restaurants will come and pick you up at the end of the pier, and then bring you back! Lots of fun!
Sleeping in those spacious, immaculate bedrooms was decadent, flowthrough breezes, super comfy beds, crisp sheets, and plush pillows! The bathrooms were all very spacious, immaculate and private for all!
The open concept led beautifully to fantastic cooking together, lots of laughter, peaceful reading and enjoying all of the wonderful artifacts Richard and Diana have aquired. The decorating is very creative and beautifully designed with the island life in mind.
Our fav moments : loved the burrito guy biking by every morning, ( tasty burritos!), morning greetings from their sweet dog Hydro, watching the gheckos scurrying around, chilling on the deck and verandah, fun boatrides to the local restaurants, walking the beach, shell searching, chatting with Diana and Richard, and Omar.
Overall, just a superb vacation and we look forward to returning with our daughters, so that we can be honoured to share this beautiful villa with them, and have them meet the lovely hosts, Richard and Diana. Thankyou to you both for a vacation we will always remember!

Casa Rana...all expectations exceeded! Thoughfully designed, functional, with great attention to aesthetics, furnishings and detail. Siting is exceptional--white sand, a manicured native plant landscape with palm trees framing the view to the ocean. There is solitude and privacy without isolation. A coastal ferry provides ready access to San Pedro. Local fishing, scuba and snorkeling guides make picups at the private dock. Comfortable chairs under the talapa at dock's end yield views of azure water and distant breaking reefs. The house itself has an open floorplan, the kitchen contemporary, beds wonderfully comfortable and porch to view and relax. There is a sense of harmony and peace that defines Casa Rana.
Richard and Diana, the owners, are gracious, knowledgeable and accommodating. They made, at our request, all arrangements for fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling aboard the El Gato. They reside in a separate house on the property as does a full-time grounds keeper. Richard and Diana are availavle and helpful, but respectful of privacy. Their love of Casa Rana and life in Belize is apparent and reflected in this extraordinary property.
Our family gathering was made perfect with adult children converging here from Washinton State, California and Sydney, Australia--each well traveled but noticeably apprecitive of what a wonderful place Casa Rana is. Asked what they liked most--the burrito guy biking past with fresh hot fare, the superfast outboard powered ferry, a nap in the hammock under palm trees, sitting with a mai tai under the palapa at the end of the dock, just soaking up the ambience. And then, maybe it was the time to hangout with family and be engulfed in the magic of Belize and Casa Rana
We had the honor of celebrating Christmas 2014 at the beautiful Casa Rana luxury home and it exceeded all of our expectations. It was our first Christmas in 26 years away home and it was a truly exceptionally special experience in many ways but mostly due to the wonderful owners Richard and Diane. They were amazing hosts, guides, and just truly good, honest people who we feel so blessed to have gotten the opportunity to meet. From the time we arrived Richard & Diane were SO helpful with all of their local knowledge and assistance in helping us schedule the coolest experiences of fishing, catamaran rides, wonderful massages by the sea and going to Christmas church & dinner by boat. Sound magical?? Well it truly was.
The house was beyond beautiful and SO comfortable, relaxing, well stocked with towels, yoga mates, beautiful dishes, utensils and cookware, and super luxurious beds that make you feel like you're sleeping in a dream...because you are. We would highly recommend Casa Rana to anyone who is looking to stand still in paradise for awhile.
Just returned from 2 glorious weeks at Casa Rana on Ambergris Caye in Belize. After months of planning with the help of Richard (the owner) we arrived at a beautiful oceanfront home to enjoy a vacation that exceeded our expectations. A 3 bedroom lovely decorated home with a well equipted kitcken, comfy beds, balconeys and decks with plenty of seating and a refreshing plunge pool. Our group, which included 3 of our adult children and 2 of their friends, took full advantage of all that was available to us. We relaxed at this wonderful home, kayaked out to Mexico Rocks to snorkel, took a daytrip on a catamaran to swim with the sharks and rays and also visit Caulker Caye, went to Mayan Ruins, had great Massages on the Palapa, and went fishing. We also had several nice Dinners at local Restaurants and one evening had two lovely Ladies come in and prepare a meal for us. Richard and Diana steered us in the right direction on all these activities, if they recommend something – take advantage, each recommendation was better than the previous one!
Great Home, Great Location, Great Owners. Can’t leave out Omar, the caretaker and Hydro, the Dog.
When it comes to our family’s vacations, we have two simple, yet firm, requirements: a great place to stay and great activities to experience, and our recent stay at Casa Rana over-delivered on both.
A great place to stay.......
Casa Rana is a unique beachfront home on the north end of Ambergris Caye owned Richard and Diana. The grounds are immaculately maintained by Omar, and “friendly canine” services are provided by Hydro (Richard and Diana’s dog). The house is beautifully decorated and we made full use of the kitchen to work around some food allergy issues we have. There was more than enough room for the four of us and the media room was great for watching World Cup updates after a long day of diving or climbing ancient Mayan ruins. The bedrooms were awesome and the bath towels felt luxurious after long days on the water.
Richard and Diana offered great help planning our stay and great support during our stay. Just like waiters in a fine restaurant, they were there when you needed them and invisible when you did not. But, it was the little things that stand out like Richard getting us fresh lobster from one of his local contacts (lobster season had just opened), or Diana showing my daughter the best places to hunt for shells (later giving my daughter several beautiful conch shells).
And great activities to experience........
Richard’s knowledge and network of contacts on Ambergris Caye made planning much easier than if I had to do it from scratch. With Richards help, I was able to put together a plan that included a fishing trip, a tour of the Lamanai ruins on the mainland, scuba diving, snorkeling, and sailing trips. I followed Richards’s recommendations on whom to engage with on all these activities, and each one was a pleasure.
I highly recommend Casa Rana as a family destination on Ambergris Caye, Belize. The house is perfect for families and you can easily use it as a base for all the activities you plan. Richard and Diana provide great, unobtrusive, on-site support, and the vendors they have built relationships with deliver quality tours and adventures.
A final thought for parents.....
Wake up an hour before your kids, have a cup of coffee on the front patio, and relax. The view is amazing.
From the moment you step off the boat that takes you to Casa Rana, until the moment you leave, you will be surrounded by beauty, comfort, privacy and the most generous hospitality. Our family of 5 (my husband and I, our daughter and our two granddaughters) were loathe to leave after 7 glorious days there.
The home is as beautiful as the pictures make it appear and the other reviews attest. The ambiance is one of peacefulness and understated luxury. The rooms are spacious; the kitchen is well stocked; the bathrooms are large and elegant; the furniture and beds are all comfortable; and the cooling breeze from the sea blows through the house.
Richard and Diana will help with whatever you may need. They gave us the information for pre-ordering food to be delivered prior to our arrival from Lagniappe Provisioning and arranged for us to have rotisserie chickens and rice and beans upon our arrival. They booked the marvelous day trip on El Gato (a must!) and our cave-tubing and zip-line excursion. They helped with suggestions for restaurants we might enjoy and made reservations for us (Portofino was our favorite; El Secreto our second choice). For the times we ate at "home", they gave us directions to the Green House for stocking up on more pineapple, papaya, tomatoes and other necessities. They even showed us where to find the most beautiful conch shells and then asked Omar to show us how he cuts a coconut (with a machete) to get the coconut water and the fresh coconut.
Casa Rana is so comfortable and relaxing, we spent more time there than we had expected. We loved snorkeling off the dock (there are literally hundreds of fish right there) and shelling (we were careful always to put the shells in a large container filled with salt water to ensure that we didn't keep any shells with living critters in them). We loved kayaking and going off to Mexico Rocks to snorkel there. The plunge pool was a delight, as was watching the sunrise from the front porch or sitting in the Adirondacks chairs on the dock, reading or just watching the sea. An added benefit to the boat rides back from the restaurants was seeing the night sky filled with stars. The final self-indulgence to our lazy days was having massages on the second floor porch one morning. Do take Richard and Diana's suggestion and ask for Juanita and Claudia.
You cannot possibly find a more lovely and private spot to stay on Ambergris Caye, or possibly anywhere else.
