Our family has been coming to Belize for ten years. It is now our most frequent vacation destination.
Maria Miller purchased this house in 2010
We fell in love with the tranquil, get-away-from-it-all atmosphere, the beauty of the pristine beaches, and the friendly people of Hopkins Village. We know you will fall in love with it, too!
What we like most about our home is simply relaxing on a quiet, secluded beach with the sun warming us and the crystal waves and ocean breezes cooling our tanned bodies. There is plenty to do and great places to eat!
From our guestbook: We've had a wonderful week! Hopkins and this house were great spots to celebrate Kathy's birthday and a great base for experiencing this beautiful part of Belize. Kathy actually thought we were tent camping on the beach so was completely surprised and amazed when we walked into the house! We enjoyed long paddles on the ocean and river, hiking in Cockscomb and Mayflower parks, snorkeling out on the reef, biking around town, hanging out with the drummers at Lebeha, and sampling some of the excellent Hopkins cuisine.
Thanks to Maria and Chris for sharing your lovely home, and to Janette and the whole team who maintain and safeguard this beautiful property. Special thanks to the spectacular wildlife. Particular favorites were the dolphins, and reef fish, the orange iguanas along the river, toucans and the fantastic variety of other bird species we encountered...and, of course, Chunko and Cash!
What a wonderful vacation we had at this house -- perfect for us. Everything we needed was at our fingertips. Thanks so much for a great stay!
We came here with our 3 year old daughter, 17 year old son and his friend. The home was a perfect size for the five of us. The home is spectacular... It has everything you need - beach chairs, snorkel gear, kayaks, equipped kitchen, bicycles. If you wanted to just stay in town you can get around by bike or rent a golf cart. If you want to go hiking and see ruins, you'll need a car. We flew into belize city, rented a car, and drove the 2-ish hours through the spectacular jungle. A worthy site. The water was absolutely stunning... Very shallow and calm which was great with a 3 year old. Within a close distance there is hiking and Mayan ruins. There are also plenty of companies that you can charter out to the barrier reef.
The people in Hopkins were so laid back and fun. The town is small with a dirt road but there are plenty of good restaurants and bars. Make sure to bring enough cash with you! There is not an ATM that will take foreign debit cards in town. We had to drive to Placencia. Most places do not take credit cards and if they do you must contend with them being down. The supermarket is simp,e without a huge variety but plenty to cook with.
For us it was an amazing vacation that we plan on repeating. I have never returned so relaxed from a vacaction before. It was fun for all ages... Highly recommend it!
It's been a while since our stay here, but while booking another vacation on VRBO I thought I'd take another look at the house we so enjoyed in Hopkins! I didn't see the review I thought I posted... so I'm doing it again!
This house is extremely nice with high quality finishes and comfy furniture and beds. We enjoyed the books, DVDs and reading material left for us.... very thoughtful details for guests! Also, the art and furniture were really beautiful. We used the snorkeling gear, kayak and bikes many times over. There really wasn't any need to book extras to do because the house kept us entertained! Maria was very helpful by email and with all the great info in house; so we felt like we knew all the best places to eat and shop without worry! Caitlyn's Bakery was our favorite recommendation among many. The fry jacks at Iris' SunnySide-Up were the best we found! So, if you are looking for a place to slow down and enjoy friendly people, great food and beautiful beaches... this is it!
As a side note, we returned to Hopkins about 8 months later and stayed at another vacation rental because this house was booked. Where we stayed was very nice but didn't have near the charm and thoughtful details provided by Maria's house. Every time we drove by the house we sighed and wished we were staying there instead!
The five of us (3 generations including a 3 year old) all enjoyed the house (well equipped) and on-the-beach location. Janette was great helping with tour guides / other suggestions and answering our numerous questions.
A relaxing vacation in a beautiful spot - thank you for 3 weeks of perfect getaway ...... wonderful birding, a manatee visit one day, excellent restaurants nearby, very cool evening trip on the river to see the bio-luminescence etc. etc.
No problem recommending this rental - especially for Canadians like us escaping winter !
My husband and I recently rented this gorgeous villa for a weekend get away to celebrate our first wedding annivesary. The location and villa was perfect. The owners provided a detailed description of various things to do during our stay and the property manager was excellent help in scheduling events. The house comes well equiped with snorkling gear, bikes, and glass bottom canoe. Lounging in the hammock is a must! Thank you for sharing your weekend get a away with us. It was perfect and just what we needed!
The house seems very new and is in a great location just south of Hopkins. It is an easy walk to Barracuda Grill and some other things, but we always drove if going to Hopkins or the marina. Janette (on-site contact) was very helpful with anything about the house and with booking activities. Our family of 5 fit just fine with 1 kid using the provided air mattress.
The beach is right out the back door and is beautiful. We had a lot of cooler weather and rain, but still got to enjoy it every day. We were attacked by bugs one evening at the marina, and at a waterfall in bocawina, but never noticed any bugs on the beach by the house.
