Oak Bluffs Cottage Rental Photos and Description
Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-6)
Our lovely gingerbread cottage called 'Hartsease' (c. 1879) is on Trinity Park Circle in the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting. The area is fondly referred to as the 'Campground'. The Tabernacle and park are directly across from our front porch. Enjoy concerts, lectures, Sunday services, Grand Illumination Night and fireworks in August.
It's all happening right in front of you! Kick back in a rocking chair or walk a few steps to town for ice-creams, restaurants, shopping, beaches and Oak Bluffs Harbor. Don't forget to buy your Black Dog T-shirt!
Hartsease is immaculately clean with a freshly painted interior. Photos of our iconic cottage appear on many calendars, postcards and advertisements about the Campground.
There are two bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom overlooks the Tabernacle. Furniture includes queen-size bed, chair, a large bureau and desk. Full-length doors open to balcony and gentle breezes. The large back bedroom is drenched with sunlight cascading thru skylights. Furniture includes 2 twin beds, bookcase, 2 bureaus and blanket chests. A very clean bathroom with toilet, linen closet and sink is between the bedrooms.
Downstairs is a large front room with brand new double-size sleep sofa, antique secretary desk, wireless internet, TV w/ DVD and cable. Off the kitchen and front room is a our dining table that comfortably seats 6 people. The kitchen is small but fully equipped with everything you'll need (see amenities) to make excellent island meals. Floors throughout the cottage are newly sanded and stained oak.
There's a full-size bathroom with shower off the kitchen. An additional private outdoor shower can be used after a swim in Nantucket Sound or any of the fine island beaches. Step out to our back patio to grill your lobstah and tuna steaks.
We've been told we have the narrowest stairs in the campground...you've got to climb 'em to know. Our grandparents went up and down into their mid-90's. You should be so lucky!
Hartsease is perfect for a couple, parties of 4, or a family with 1-3 grown children. The cottage sleeps 2-4 very well. Parties with 5-6 people (max.) can be considered...you'll have to be friendly!

About Jonathan Hart
My parents and grandparents bought 'Hartsease' in 1976. Seven generations of Hart families have lived on the island and in the Campground dating back to the 1700's. I'm a 30-year advertising photographer and create beautiful scenes of Vermont for notecards. My sister, Joanne, lives in Vermont and enjoys making crafts. My brother, Peter, lives in Salem, MA and enjoys traveling to P'Town on Cape Cod. Our mother, Virginia (Debbie) lives in Orleans on the Cape. My dad 'Pete' didn't get to realize his life-long dream to live in the cottage. We all miss him.

Why Jonathan Hart chose Oak Bluffs
Martha's Vineyard is a beautiful get-away vacation island off Cape Cod. The 'Campground' has a uniquely indescribable pull. I remember coming to the island on the ferry as a little boy. There's a special spirit here. We come to swim, bike, play and chill out. There are quaint towns and villages, locally grown produce at farmers' markets, daily catch for supper at the cottage or a fine restaurant, picnics at one of the fabulous beaches, and history...tons of stories everywhere and people eager to tell them! Stay at 'Hartsease' and you'll be sure to learn about our Granddad, 'Al', who lived to be almost 102! We live and vacation here, so please treat our cottage as if it were your own.
What makes this cottage unique
The smell of salt air as you board the ferry. Seeing the gulls and rip-tide as you cross Nantucket Sound. The comings and goings of the Campground unfolding right in front of the cottage. Walking to beaches on hot pavement. The hustle and bustle of mid-summer. Grand Illumination Night - a sight to behold (with a few thousand of your new best friends). Fireworks in August...some of the best you've ever seen! Sitting on the front porch for breakfast with the morning paper. Cold drinks on the porch on a hot summer afternoon. Chatting with passersby all wishing they were you! A deep sense of knowing that you'll come back again and again, year after year...you just have to!
