North Shore at its best.
An un-attached 1 berm. Guest House on a private, gated, 2.5 acre estate, Home is approx. 700 sq ft residence is located at at 1100 foot elevation in the foothills of the Ko’olau Mountains above beautiful North Shore beaches. Nights are pleasantly cool. Days are warm.
There are only two buildings on the 2.5 acres: the owner's house and the guest house. One is about 300 yards from the other and neither can be seen from the other. Each house has its own private gardens. The property is gated and kept locked; you will have your own key to come and go as you like. Your space on the property is very private. The owners are privacy nuts.
The property was once a botanical garden, open to the public. Although it is now kept private, many of the plantings have been maintained and new ones have been added. Wild birds can be seen in the gardens, and heard twittering at sunrise.
There is a well-equipped kitchen, ( Coffee & English Tea always stocked) a bath with tub and shower, one bedroom upstairs containing a double bed built in the 1860s during the administration of Abraham Lincoln. The house is furnished with antiques brought to Hawaii from New Orleans as well as Pacific Island inspired pieces. The living room has 20 foot clerestory windows with a Queen Sofa Bed.
The getaway has cable TV on a 42 inch flat screen, Internet, WiFi, cable radio, DVD player, CD player, and its own private gardens front and back. The swimming pool is between the guest house and the main house and is available only for your use - although the owners have been known to sneak a dip when their guests are out exploring the island. Pick your own citrus in season and admire the flora of this botanical garden.
We always get guests started with breakfast foods- Coffee & Tea, so you don't have to go shopping when you first get here or arrive late. Foodland is at the bottom of the hill. You can make your own grapefruit juice (there's a juicer up there). There are cereals and condinaments, too. The cottage has an iron, ironing board, washer and dryer, and hair dryer. There is a charcoal grill outside; charcoal, mesquite and starter fluid are provided. There is also an outdoor shower. Some beach supplies- Beach Chairs Coolers and Ice packs/ Boggie Boards, snorkel gear, umbrella, Towels etc.
The property is located up the hill above Waimea beach, Waimea falls park and Foodland supermarket. There are hiking trails behind the property on state conservation land. There are also horseback riding trails that overlook Waimea valley. Bikes and surf equipment can be rented right across from the supermarket, and a paved, bike/jogging/walking trail winds for several miles past the most famous North Shore surf spots, Sunset Beach and Pipeline.
This is the perfect spot to avoid the new terrible North Shore traffic and still have four beaches at the bottom of Pupukea Road. .Waiamea, Three Tables, Sharks Cove
To find us, drive along Kam. Hwy., then turn right at Foodland/Pupukea Rd. It's the 3rd signal light on the North Shore, just past Waimea Bay. Then head up the mountain for 1.3 miles. Our home is on the right.
We do allow pets, with an additional cleaning charge.

Thank you for welcoming us to your little oasis. The lush gardens, tropical fruits - even the thunderstorm have made this an idyllic vacation. We will be back! Kenai, Alaska
Thank you for the use of your lovely cottage; we loved so much about it - the birds, the gardens, the privacy, the security and your attention to detail. Everything we could need was here. R & K, France
We have only one thing to say: No more beautiful place than this on the North Shore.
Thank you for sharing heaven!! We love it. M & C, Colo.
My fiancé and I stayed here for four days during our ten day trip to Oahu. We absolutely loved our little home here. The owners of the property live on the property, but we rarely saw them. They are super hospitable and brought us eggs from their chickens which live on site. We heard them occasionally in the morning, but for the most part, we didn't notice them.
Lovely location - use to be a botanical garden
Lots of kitchen supplies and fully operational kitchen
Cable and wireless internet
Beach gear available
Washer and dryer
Unique and lovely location to explore
Lovely loft to sleep
Fruit flies because of all the fruit trees on the property - definitely keep the screens closed
Gate the must be manually opened and closed when driving into the property
We loved our stay here and I highly recommend it!
This house is the perfect getaway on the north shore. It is up in the mountains but only a 1.8 mile drive to the beach. It is secluded and gives you the peace and quiet one needs when escaping a big city. The owners are kind, generous and willing to help you out as much as you want while you are here. They gave us fantastic restaurants recommendations as well as directions from time to time. Yet if we didn't want to interact we wouldn't have to. They value their guests privacy. We simply enjoyed speaking with them so we did when we had the chance. The house is very well kept. They provided us a ton of simple things to get started and clearly kept the house stocked with things like soap, shampoo, mouth wash. They were also gracious enough to give us eggs, coffee, cream and fresh fruit to start our days. I have not a single bad thing to say. This is paradise with kind people looking for you to have a good time. What more could you ask for? Thank you K&J for a lovely trip away from Chicago. We hope to return shortly :)
Leaving the snow and cold, getting through traffic, what a surprise! This Botanical Estate is everything and more than the Video.
Our Host had supplied us with wonder fresh fruit and so much more.
And the private tropical swimming pool was even better than in the pictures and Video.
At the bottom of the hill is the only Supermarket on the North Shore. And at the bottom are four of the best North Shore Beaches, Waimea Falls Park and local lunch trucks with great food .. No traffic to go through. . Best location ever.
Sorry for the late review, I had lived on Oahu from 1984 through 1987, and the Pupukea area is the most Beautiful areas on Oahu, mix that with a cottage smack dab in the middle of a botanical garden and a host that is the most accommodating to your needs and experience on the island, and you have paradise. This cottage is at the top of the mountains of Pupukea, the drive down to the beach is out of this world for sites, the area by which the cottage is located is very private and safe, my wife and I do like our privacy and this gave us the utmost in this, the host was never intrusive and always polite. At our arrival, the keys were where he said they were, and the fresh fruit and juices made the long flight come to and end in perfect reflection of the area. The host had everything one would need for hitting the beach and his connections with the locals, we had all that we would need and more. There was nothing in our week long vacation that was negative to what I would expect from an island get away. Remember that staying here is actually staing in a location as if you are in paradise, no glitz, just quiet, private and totally Hawian. The rain fell every night putting us to sleep and keeping almost to cool for windows to be open, but the tropical smell was to pleasing to close them. The pool was very private and refreshing, nestled in the garden area of the property, the host promotes you to roam around and take pictures of the interesting botanicals. I will return to Oahu again, I have many reasons to return, and now with this location I will defiantly be renting this cottage.
This paradise is a get away that makes you want to stay away....you must stay here to believe what a joy it will bring to you...soft smells, soft wind, with lots of birds...I loved it to chill out before heading to my beach days...
We loved staying here. It's a cute cottage in a beautiful garden with a secluded pool, on the edge of a forest reserve. We had lots of exotic songbirds that we could view through the glass ends of the A-frame. There's a great patio for having fresh eggs and some Kona coffee. A wonderful, romantic tropical experience. Just up the hill from Pupukea beach and Waimea Bay. Just down from hiking opportunities in the forest.
The owners are very nice and the listing is accurate.
Great Weekly Farmers markets. Call Marlu for updates on events.
Shark swimming is the BIG must do on North Shore! See OneOceaDiving.com or with a cage
AND Do not miss the Pupukea Heiau or Waimea Falls and Valley just down the hill. Waimea Beach rock jump also a must do..!
