Don't book anywhere else
There are three things I look for when renting a property; the hosts, the location, and the property.
The hosts at Taste of Zanzibar treated us like honored guests, accommodating a last-minute change of plans very well, providing fantastic communication throughout the process of booking the property, and being there when questions needed to be answered.
The location of the house is terrific. Right on the beach, lots of wildlife, beautiful trees, quiet neighbors–a perfect setting. A large public beach is within easy walking distance on the waterline. The house is close enough to the road to be handy, but far enough away that we never heard vehicular traffic while we were there. It also had quick access to the Inland Highway. The house is far enough away from town to feel rural, but close enough for a quick trip. It is an ideal location.
The property is not for everyone, but suited us perfectly. If you are looking for a sparkling new home, this is not your place. It is an older, well-maintained property with lots of charm and ambiance. What it has is lots of rooms that makes it feel bigger than it looks from the outside. The small-ish rooms each have their own function and give the home a comfortable, intimate feeling. There were 5 of us staying there and one evening we had 6 guests over and we never once felt cramped. On the contrary, because of the layout in a few seconds you can go from a rocking good time in one room to a quiet time in another. The bedrooms were well-appointed and had nice views. The bathrooms as well, and the laundry facilities were very much appreciated.
Would I return to Taste of Zanzibar? In a heartbeat! The sound of the sea, the bald eagles overhead, the relaxing hot tub, walking out on the beach at low tide . . . I’m ready to go back now!
