Maison Vauyon is an authentically restored stone cottage. It is located at the end of a quiet lane in the medieval quarter of this historic town.

Staying in this village is like taking a step back in time, meet the friendly locals and enjoy the fact that you can virtually walk to every amenity.

Wake up to the smell of fresh baked croissants and locally roasted coffee, as these scents seem to permeate the air.

Our maison has been restored from top to bottom, some of the features include: a traditional french-style kitchen with modern, gourmet stainless-steel appliances. This consists of a 5 burner gas range with rotisserie, large frost-free fridge, dishwasher and coffee machine.

The main floor bathroom has heated tile floors and a generous walk-in Italian shower with hot water on demand. Heated towel bars and an antique cabinet with a copper sink complete the look. The extra capacity washer and dryer are also located in the bathroom.

The dining and living area will seat four comfortably, with a double (140cmx190cm) pull out sofa-bed.

The back has a private terrace to enjoy alfresco dining and your morning coffee.

The upstairs master bedroom has a comfortable queen-size (160cmX200cm) bed and heirloom furnishings. With the ladies in mind...there is a powder room toilet and sink off of the bedroom.

This home also has the luxury of its own private wine cellar for you to store your favourite vintage during your stay.

From luxurious linens, to top-end cookware, vintage dishes and quality utensils...every detail has been carefully considered.

Just bring your suitcase!

About Linda Wiebe

My husband and I grew up in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. Like many, we have always had a love for travel. In the Spring of 2006 we decided to take an extended vacation to France. We sold our home, basically put our memories in a box and said good-bye to our three adult children. It didn't take long to unwind and to relax into the French lifestyle. The 'break' soon turned into months and before long it was apparent that we wanted to come back here every year for an extended stay. That is when we started thinking about co-ownership and our version of a home-share 'My vacation home in France' was born. The village of La Charite-sur-Loire fit all of our criteria. We purchased a few homes and went to work restoring them. We developed a business plan and sold the shares in the house under a Canadian company. When the house is not being enjoyed by its owners, it is available for rental.

Linda Wiebe purchased this cottage in 2009
What makes this cottage unique

La Charité is a medieval village set in the middle of wine country on the Loire. A music and book town by theme with many concerts and festivals.

Sancerre, Pouilly-sur-Loire and other quaint wine hamlets are all at your doorstep.

Renaissance and Medieval castles dot the countryside and are as near as a 10 min. drive. You can even visit 'Guedelon' and observe first hand the construction of a 13th century chateau.

Cycling here is gentle and easy with bike paths following the Loire or quiet country roads leading you through the vineyards and sunflowers to picturesque villages like 'Apremont-sur-Allier' listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France. Cyclo-rail is another option this uses carts on the old rail tracks taking you over the river from Cosne to Sancerre.

You can rent a canoe and paddle down the river to the next town, get out, have lunch and a wine tasting, be picked up by your guide and be brought back to La Charité all for about 12 euros (not including lunch)

If gaming is your thing, there is a casino about 15 min away, or check out the F 1 race track at Magny Cours just 35 min away.

If a slower pace is what you are after, maybe you would like a little antiquing, every village in the area has an annual 'Brocante' and town fair on the week-ends, sometimes like the 'frog festival 'in 'Mesves' in May or the fair of specialty foods and wines of the region' Salon du Gout' in La Charité May 6-8.

Golf, swim, walk, hike, cycle or drive; the adventures are waiting here for you.

Well appointed cottage, nicely refurbished and yet retains the original character. Clean, has everything you need. Linda, the owner, was wonderful to work with and attentive to our emails. Beautiful little village - everything is in walking distance. Great region of France to explore. We would love to return.

Hadn't really heard of La Charité prior to our trip and we're so glad we stayed here instead of one of the more 'touristy' places we'd read about. First, the property was fantastic. Better outfitted than our own place! And in such an interesting building. And the town/city is a great choice to stay in. Very local, authentic and welcoming, where you can become part of the town and enjoy the market, shops and many attractions both within the town and in the immediate vicinity. The wine drinking, cycling, hiking, boating ETC. are all there to be enjoyed. And the history of La Charité and area match anything that France has to offer. Finally, Linda was incredibly helpful at every turn in providing information, suggestions and recommendations, as were her local contacts, Byron and Kelly. Would highly recommend this property for a unique and wonderful vacation experience.

A PERFECT COTTAGE IN A PERFECT MEDIEVAL VILLAGE

Submitted: June 19, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
We recently returned from a weeks stay at your lovely cite in the medieval village of la Charite-sur-Loire.
Our accommodation was perfect, you have managed to keep the old world ambiance and combine it with today's modern conveniences. I especially appreciated the updated kitchen, bathrooms and the insuite laundry. From our "home" we had easy access to the bike trails along the Loire, local wine tasting, medieval and renaissance Chateaux's and wondering through the charming near by villages. Of course I loved strolling the streets of la Charite, highlightes being the Saturday market, the abbey church of Notre-Dame and the friendly welcoming residents. Linda was extremely helpful and her suggestions of places to see and tours to take was most helpful. The cottage and the village far exceed our expectations and we cannot wait to return for a longer stay.

A gorgeous cottage in a picturesque town!

We had such a lovely stay in Maison Vauyon. It has been so lovingly restored, and even though it has all its historical touches, it still has enough modern amenities to make it easy to live in (great oven/stove, wireless, TV & DVD).

The town of La Charite sur Loire was fantastic - it's so pretty and the locals are very friendly (although it helps if you speak French - there aren't a lot of English speakers!). We had a lovely picnic right on the banks of the river, drove to Sancerre, Pouilly and Bourges (all highly recommended) and just generally wandered about. Be aware that if you want the famous Burgundy red wines, it's a couple of hours to drive to those regions - but the white wines from the Sancerre/Pouilly region are to-die-for!

We were lucky enough to meet Len and Linda (the owners) who were so hospitable and helpful. And the little touches like the coffee and basic cooking ingredients (oil, sugar, herbs etc) made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a relaxing break in a beautiful part of the world.

Owner's Response: Glad that you enjoyed your stay in La Charité. It really is a truely "French" town on the Loire with not a ot of English spoken, you are definitley a novelty here.
While the great Burgundian wines are a bit of a drive away...there are a few hidden gems of Pinots grown in the Sancerre region. (they are just a little harder to find) This region is much more famous for its whites.
Nice to have met you two, maybe you'll be back one day to do a bit more wine exploring.

We spent a week here in early May and absolutely loved it. The flat is wonderfully put together with great bathrooms, nice outside space and new kitchen. Charite was a huge surprise for us with the amount of historic buildings, great shops, excellent selection of restaurants and great central location for traveling by train throughout the Loire Valley. We also rented electric bikes from the visitors centre which were a lot of fun and he bike trail system on the other side of the Loire is phenomenal, we biked up towards Sancerre one day and with the electric bikes took just about 90 minutes each way without working too hard. Great hike in the fields through one of the hikes recommended by the visits centre. All in all, excellent! Note if you are around 6feet tall like I am watch your head, I got used to going up the stairs in a slight lean to avoid smacking my head which I did a couple of times in he first few days, but that should not deter you otherwise, this place is great!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the wonderful review! It sounds like you two had a great time dispite the few head bumps.(remember the French are typically a lot shorter than other Nationalities... especially 300 years ago)
Cheers,
Linda
