Home is completely winterized with radiant floor heating. Upstairs bedrooms have window air conditioning units if you need them. You can walk to the Switzerland Inn for lunch or dinner. You are close to wineries, the Windmill market, Lakeside Golf Club, and nearby waterfalls. The gourmet kitchen is enormous. New appliances including large refrigerator, dishwasher, separate icemaker, wine refrigerator, Bosch gas cook top, and antique farm style sink. The countertops and island in the kitchen are made from reclaimed french oak barrels from a local winery. Charming built- in breakfast nook has views to the lake with dining space for 2 or 10. Awesome sunroom/living room (16’x20’) has walls of windows, two-story ceiling with trusses, overlooks the lake with view of the bluff, and is great for relaxing and entertaining.

An outdoor fireplace on the lake side lawn is a wonderful backdrop for family photos.
A private drive to the cottage leads you to ample parking for cars and trailers.
The location is one of the best on the lake. There is privacy for family gatherings and spectacular views of the lake from the cottage. We hope you enjoy your stay at “Southern Sails” as much as we love this cottage.

We are parents and grandparents, and we are fortunate enough to be the third generation to care for this cottage. We offer it to others for a few weeks each year to enjoy this special lake and this special cottage,
Jeannette Wilkins purchased this cottage in 1954
The location is ideal because of the gentle slope of the land, giving easy access to the lake without a break wall. . The neighborhood is the most beautiful and well maintained on the entire lake.
The cottage is close to wineries, the charming town of Hammondsport ,and the Glenn Curtiss Museum. Antiquing, Watkins Glenn, and Corning Glass museum are favorite activities. Local berry picking is a very fun activity with the kids, not to mention, delicious!
We stayed here with a group of college friends in October. The house was great, the views spectacular and we could not have asked for more. Huge kitchen was a magnet for hanging out, the comfort and views from the main living area was very relaxing and the porch was great for afternoon conversation and morning yoga! We enjoyed the grill, the kayak, and the fire pit. The house was clean, very tastefully decorated and very comfortable for our group of 8. We've already booked for next year!
When our friend Barb from Dallas told us she wanted to run the Wineglass Marathon, I suggested renting a house in the Finger Lakes region. We decided on Keuka Lake since it's the closest of the lakes to the starting line, and then I went to work on VRBO to select the "perfect" house for our group of six adults. Man, did I nail it! Southern Sails was wonderful: Clean, roomy, beautifully furnished, delightful decorative touches. It's conveniently located, and offers a wonderful view of the lake from the gorgeous sitting room. We sat on the dock in the mornings drinking our coffee, and in the late afternoons drinking other beverages. On one rainy evening we sat on the covered deck watching the rain gently fall on the lake. The location was a perfect jumping-off point not only for the marathon, but for day trips to the Keuka Outlet bike trail, Watkins Glen, the Corning Glass Museum, Curtiss Museum, antiquing, wine tasting, and more. Located just a few miles above Hammondsport, we had our choice of several nice restaurants (I recommend the Village Tavern). Even closer is the landmark Switzerland Inn, a perfect place for casual dining overlooking the lake. Our group has already decided we'll be going back.
My husband I rented this wonderful property for a week in September. The weather changed each day which added to the joy of being on the water. The house was terrific we had two friends stay with us as we were celebrating my 50th high school reunion. Each of the other guest had their own bathrooms which was great. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and enjoying the evenings. We can't wait to return and enjoy and relax in this wonderful spot
For the past 5 years, my wife and our young kids, my sister's family and her young kids, and my parents rent a lake house annually at different lakes somewhere between my sister in NJ and us in East Aurora, NY. This is the 1 time a year that we spend a lot of quality time together and we chose Keuka Lake this year at Southern Sails. It was unanimously voted by the entire family as the best house and trip yet since we started. We comfortably fit all the adults and children throughout the house. Every bedroom has its own bathroom and the entire place is extremely clean and in beautiful shape, so you can tell the owners take extremely good care of it. It has a nice dock with lounge chairs, kayaks, both a gas and charcoal grill ready to go, firepit, and a bunch of outside seating. There is a very shallow, gradual depth into the water perfect for the kids to play in. The porch is beautiful and spacious connected to both the kitchen and a sunroom. Stainless steel newer appliances and even a separate wine fridge where we stocked all the wines for the trip. The closest town to Sothern Sails happens to be the best town on the lake in my opinion and a major factor in my selection process trying to narrow down where we wanted to stay. This place is equipped with anything that you need and will not dissapoint anyone who rents it. I am thankful we discovered it and will be coming back for sure.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this location. The house is roomy and comfortable. Views of the lake are excellent from inside as well as outside on the extensive decks. My favorite is the sun room facing the lake with windows on three sides. Great space to sit and take it all in or just relax. It was lovely to be outside. There are two levels of outside areas as well as the dock and the fire pit. We used the fire pit several times and it was lovely to sit at lake edge and see the other fire pits going as well. Mornings on the water in the kayak were lovely.
Bathrooms are plentiful and roomy. Bedrooms are of good size and very comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked with all the necessities. The house was immaculate when we arrived.
We ventured out to several of the wineries around Keuka Lake and went into Corning to the Museum of Glass, which was so much more than we expected. Crab night (Wed. night) at the Switz is a must!
Wow! What an amazing house! Based on the photos, we had high expectations, but the actual house blew our minds. The owners have stocked everything you could possibly need. There were baby gates at every staircase, tons of water toys and indoor toys, and every possible kitchen gadget you could desire. The house is beautifully appointed with gorgeous wood trim, wide plank floors, wine-barrel counters, tons of antiques and nautical photos, and lots of cozy nooks for reading and naps. My husband, an engineer, was less interested in the antiques but was in awe of the radiant floor heating and giant hot water heater, which are visible from the laundry area. Best, though, is the lake access. The back of the house opens to a flat yard with plenty of space for frisbee or croquet. The lawn slowly slopes down to the dock and private beach. There's not a room in the house that doesn't have a view of the lake and from which you can't hear the water and the birds.
I should also mention that the house is QUIET! We went with 2 other families, each of whom have small children. In sum, there were 4 children under the age of 5. We were worried about night noise, since we all tend to be in bed by 9 pm. Although we saw occasional neighbors, we never heard them. They were all very quiet and respectful. This house is set down the hill from the road, so there wasn't any road noise either. We all slept so well!
Prior to our trip, we emailed the owner nearly every day for a week with questions. We wanted to know whether to pack our waffle iron, our infant life jacket, etc. Jeannette replied immediately to every request with reassurance that they had everything at the house already. She was so helpful throughout our trip. She recommended wineries, all-you-can eat crab dinners, and a very fun concert in the Hammondsport Square.
We cannot recommend this house enough! We feel so lucky to have enjoyed a week in such a wonderful place!
This cottage is located in the center of Keuka Lake activities. Close to wineries, and good restaurants.
