3 Bedroom house, know as Flight's End, is for rent by day(two day minimum), weekend, week or month. Great for romantic get away or a family outdoor vacation. Not a party house. Fifteen minutes to Charlemont, Ashfield and Shelburne Falls.
House is located on a brook and across the road from a private pond (not suitable for swimming). Fifteen minutes to Berkshire East for skiing and zip line tours or Zoar Outdoor and Crabapple Rafting for rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, zip line tours, etc. Kenneth Dubuque State Forest is a 5 minutes walk. Good for hiking, biking, horseback riding, xc skiing and snowmobiling.
Drag a lawn chair over to the pond, fetch a glass of wine and watch the antics of geese, ducks and maybe a beaver while the sun sets beyond the pond. The babbling brook has places where kids can play in an old swimming hole, catch minnows, and build rock dams. House sleeps 8-two rooms with double beds, one room with a queen bed, and bunk beds and a fold out couch in the basement for young people.
New equipnment and furnishings: House has a new Energy Star washer, dryer, dishwasher and new carpeting in the living-room and dining-room. Wi-Fi satellite internet is available and reaches the back yard and the nearby pond and brook areas.
We have a new gas grill, a small fire pit and a folding picnic table along with many outdoor chairs.
My grandparents bough the properties in Hawley in the 1920 and I spent summers in Hawley as a youth and my kids grew up spending vacations in Hawley, and now the grandkids come to visit.
Kirby Thwing purchased this house in 1986
I bought this house for my parents to live in and planned to retire into it when they no longer needed it. I retired while they were still in it and I bought the house of my aunt and uncle, just up the road.
My cousin lives next door to me and just up the road from this rental house. He is a wealth of information about the area and the countryside. He'll be sure to stop by if you are outside.
What is unique about this area is its quiet. No stores, no street lights, no stop signs. But, there are plenty of birds, turkeys, moose, bear, deer, rabbits, hawks. You get the idea i think. The stars are very bright at night and the brook can be heard from far-away. Trees, stone walls, ponds abound. Hawley's population is a whopping 320 hearty souls. Just sitting and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature is rejuvenating.
Lots of Geese and ducks on your partially snow-covered pond. Your wonderful "Flight's End" Retreat is so clean and fresh and peaceful. The brook was a cascade of white water . It was music to our ears each night - Great "White noise" for sleeping. Your fields were bare but there was still lots of snow on the wood roads for skiing. . We saw a moose!!..down on one of the pools in the Deerfield River. What a thrill!! Can't wait until our next visit next fall.
Just as advertised. Great place to get away to the country. Very quiet and pretty setting. Nice little pond just across the road. With a bench that makes a nice spot for your morning coffee. Bring with you what you need as there are limited choices for groceries and other essentials nearby. Also very limited to no cell service. Really the spot for getting away from it all. Bring a DVD or two and a book and prepare to hunker down. There are many nearby options for walking and hiking as well.
I can certainly say I was skeptical when I saw this place at such a low price but rolled the dice anyways. I couldn't have been more happy that I did the house takes on a old school farmhouse vibe with plenty of decorations and wifi and cable and movies to watch, so plenty to keep you busy if you're not keen on nature. I however am and it couldn't have been more beautiful there is a private pond with a bench to watch wildlife and the sun sets right over it. Also there is a fire pit in the backyard that over looks a stream that runs through the beautiful woods. The area is so secluded and serene you feel like you disconnected from world and rush for a bit. The owner greeted me driving by and couldn't have been any nicer, perfect place to light a campfire look at the stars and crack open a beer. Will be coming back again and again
We stayed here for 5 nights between Christmas and New Year's and overall we were pleased with our visit. But a few things are worth noting:
1. It is a very rural location; no cell phone reception
2. The house was clean and well-maintained, but chilly for a winter visit! The default on the thermostat was set to 50 degrees, so we constantly had to turn it up. The bunk-beds in the basement weren't user-friendly as sleeping space during a winter visit, either.
3. We had very little interaction with the owner, but we were frustrated that the one thing we complained about (the fact that none of the exterior lights worked, which meant it was very dark at night) did not get addressed during our stay.
Could not be more happy with my stay here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your home. House was exactly as listed with everything we could possibly need! Very pretty area. We went white water rafting at Crabapple white water rafting. So much fun! Our only regret was that we could not stay longer.
We love Flight's End! We visited June 14-20/2014 and enjoyed every minute! It's very clean and "homey". Extremely well equipped and comfortable. We loved watching ducks, geese and Blue Heron on the pond. At night we heard owls. We usually only saw 1 or 2 cars-very peaceful & quiet. A pleasure to do business with owners.
We're telling all our friends about this wonderful retreat and plan on coming back.
Refundable deposit received very quickly.
Thanks so much,
