Villa del Sole, which we built in 1992, includes two separate parts, three king-sized bedrooms on main floor, and one twin-bed down, four stunning bathrooms (three with outdoor showers), pool, well-organized kitchen for serious cooks, huge decks, gorgeous views, and a new gazebo perched above the house, with soaring views, a quick and easy walk (100 yards) to the Caribbean. Built in a Caribbean style, furnished with bright, wonderful colors and furniture, this is a place you'll feel quite at home with (wifi, music, cooking, best snorkeling on the island, restaurants nearby and plentiful!) Mahoebay turtles are often in view, as one can see by my own soncijo youTube underwater videos.

About Joan Soncini

Here we are, Joan and Mario. Joan wrote the well-known book, Virgin Gorda: An Intimate Portrait, telling about this wonderful island. They were married in 1993 on Virgin Gorda, and their love of the island is seen in the wonderful Villa del Sole. Recently, we built the gazebo, a simply wonderful spot for studies, morning coffee, evening cocktails, general view watching, especially the sunsets. Both have dual citizenship with Italy, where they spend almost half of the year. Italian ceramics are seen in the kitchens, both in Piccolo Sole, the independent, attached fourth bedroom, as well as in the main house. Joan is a cross-cultural psychotherapist/photographer and Mario is an engineer consultant, bringing in Italian companies to the US.

Why Joan Soncini chose Virgin Gorda

When we started dating each other, we both had a connection and passion for the Caribbean. We began to search for a place to buy. In January, 1992, we arrived in VG, having visited here (Joan) around 1967, and the two of us in 1990. Mario was reminded of the grottos of Italy, and he knew this was the place. What we didn't know was how the people of Virgin Gorda would give us the most wonderful of all attributes of this island, so well known for its beauty. Writing the book, published in 2007, gave us even a better way of knowing more people in an even more in depth way. We feel blessed to be here.

What makes this villa unique

Friendly and wonderful people, gorgeous views, a special lifestyle of both home cooking, swimming, snorkeling or scuba, beach days, going out to terrific restaurants in a place where life is still quiet and charming, no neon lights. Music every night in the many places to visit and enjoy. Sunsets! Day trips to BVI islands or to the USVI islands.

Wonderful stay at villa del sole

Joan, the owner, could not have been more accommodating. She was wonderful to work with and her home reflected her warmth. We really loved the bedrooms in bel sole and piccolo sole the best! The views were amazing and access to the beach and tennis were superb.
Great stay- go for it! For the price, it can't be beat!

I love Villa del Sole

The setting and views are awesome. From the porch or the gazebo, the views across to Beef Island are so very gorgeous. The sunsets are incredible: the sky is always filled with dramatic clouds and bold colors. We were treated to this incredible explosion of color night after night.

The house itself is very comfortable and gracious. It feels "just right" for two people or for eight people. Each of the four bedrooms is very private. And you haven't "lived" until you take shower in one of the private indoor/outdoor shower enclosures.

The beach is only steps away. A half mile of sandy, gorgeous sunbathing. Great snorkeling in clear waters that feature beautiful clusters of coral. The private pool is a great place to finish off a day at the beach.

I can't wait to return!!!

We cannot say enough about Villa Del Sole - what a fantastic vacation! Well located on the island, minutes to anything that you could want or need. Wonderful, multiple decks to see the gorgeous sunsets, fantastic pool and chaise lounge area - and steps to a secluded beach with fantastic snorkeling. Mario and Joan are phenomenal hosts and ensure that everything is taken care of during your stay. We can't wait to go back!
