We've been vacationing just south of this lot since the early 70's. Our kids spent many happy summer and winter days on "the lake."
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2010
First the positives..House is easy to find, close to Gaylord and easy access to I-75. Otsego Lake is lovely and the house is on the East side of the lake, so you get a really nice sunset. The dock is great for fishing off of and we made good use of the firepit as well.
Now for a reality check. We imagined we would arrive, unpack and start enjoying the week. Instead, we spent the afternoon cleaning the cottage. Both porches and deck needed to be swept, the outdoor chairs had mold on them, the windows were filthy and the couches were covered in dog hair and smelled. We had to get sheets to cover them (from terry who was very nice) before we could sit on them. The upstairs bedrooms had dust under the beds and the throw rugs should have been thrown out! The front door screen was broken (fixed by terry) and the upstairs window frame was bent and although it was taken away to be "repaired" we never saw it again. The paddle boat was listing on day 1 and sunk on day 2. The cottage was in a state of disrepair and I doubt the owners have seen in in years. If they have seen it (and still charge $1000 per week) well shame on them. The kitchen table sat 4 (!) people. I would suggest the owners take a weeks rental and spruce up the place, paint the walls, get a new kitchen table and chairs, have the couch and bedding deep cleaned and buy a few new rugs, etc...
With the amount of rentals in the area, these people are playing with fire. I can't believe all the reviews were as positive as they appear to be. Seems fishy to me.
There are 2 bunkbeds (sleeps 4) 1 little double bed (sleeps 2 and I'm being generous) 1 queen room (sleeps 2) and an outdoor daybed in the sunroom (sleeps 1) I assume the rock hard couch in the sunroom and the 2 seater sofa in the living room were meant to be places to sleep as well (!?) Just as well we had 9 people and not more.
Finally, we were asked to leave the cottage as we found it, well, we left it better than we found it. At least it was a bit cleaner when we left.
This was our second year here and it was fantastic. The cabin is very clean when we arrived and the pictures are very accurate. It is a beautiful setting right on the lake, we were able to grill and have a bonfire at night. Teri, the property manager is very helpful and friendly but does not bother you while you are there. We hated to leave but look forward to going back next year.
We just spent a week there and it we had a fantastic time!! The house was very clean when we arrived and the pictures shown online were very accurate. It was beautiful right on the lake-we rented a pontoon boat for the day and enjoyed that very much and we were able to dock it right at the house when we needed to come back for a while. We were able to bring our dogs, and even they had a great time. It is a perfect location, you are within an hour to Mackinaw Island, Traverse City, Petoskey etc., and of course there is lots of golfing. Teri came and welcomed us and she was very friendly and told us if there was anything we needed to let her know. We definitely will go back again-can't wait till next summer!
Me and my 3 sisters had a great time! First time we decided to rent a place for our annual sisters week and it was well worth it. We ate at the Stampede Saloon about five min. away most days. Although the weather wasn't super warm, we got in the water 3 days and it's very clean and not mucky at all. House was clean and roomy (loved the sun porch).Pictures are accurate. Just remember to bring your own towels, wash cloths, and the toaster has a mind of it's own.(: check in time is 4 p.m. Would recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice relaxing getaway. Thanks to the owners and property manager.
My wife, daughter (<1 yr), and I met up with my brother and his family of four (3 kids under 7 or so) for a week in mid-June. Upon arrival, we found the cottage to be precisely as described, clean, in good condition, and of acceptable size for our group. The property manager, Teri, was extremely polite and inviting without being over bearing. She stopped to check-in on us on arrival, and later checked back when she discovered a few toys had floated down the beach; but overall, while she was available, she allowed us the privacy to enjoy the week without interruption.
The kids loved the upstairs bunk room, and their folks found the adjacent bedroom comfortable. We liked the fact that their family had it's own upstairs space, while my wife and I took the downstairs bedroom for the 3 of us. While it was admittedly tight, we had ample space for a pack-n-play and the three of us slept like babies after our long days in the sun.
Inside, we found anything and everything necessary to make our week comfortable, though we really just utilized the cottage as a place to eat and sleep, and instead spent the vast majority of the time on the beach, in the boat, or on the deck. In the mornings, the sun porch provided a nice retreat for those waking early, and the kitchen/dining room proved more than adequate to serve breakfast and other meals. For the remainder of the time, the large sandy beach and nice shallow water kept the kids entertained for hours. We found the fact that the docks on both sides of the property (one is the neighbors) provided a very nice defining line for the kids, which allowed us to enjoy our stay without constant reminders to stay close. The paddle boat provided the oldest kid his own personal toy for the week... I think he'd have slept in it if we left him... and the others enjoyed taking their own occasional rides. The dock proved to be shallow, but at about 18-inches deep, was just deep enough to tie my inboard ski boat. Larger boats may require a mooring buoy, as the lake does drop off nicely just off the dock a few yards. We credit the shallowness of the lake to it's warmth, as even with a colder than normal spring, it was more than swim-able in mid-June. We skied and tubed, and aside from some areas of tall weeds, enjoyed the layout of the lake. It's very long and had plenty of coves to always provide a calm spot for a couple of us to slalom.
We're already working out which week the 8 of us can arrange to do it again next season!
I have three words for this charming lakefront cottage on Otsego Lake in Gaylord - A-MAZ-ING! My husband and I spent this past Labor Day Weekend there and fell in love with it! The cottage is beautiful, well-decorated, and clean and the view of the lake is absolutely gorgeous! The description talks about the "sleeping porch"...let me tell you - it's true. We fell asleep on the very comfortable daybed all three nights. The owner, Lorrie, was extremely friendly when I spoke with her over the phone. That's always a plus! The property manager, Teri, was also very friendly and didn't interfere with our vacation just to collect the rent check! We were able to bring our dog also, which means a lot to us - we don't go anywhere without her. We went into Gaylord and had lunch at the famous Sugar Bowl Restaurant - a must try. The food was delicious and the restaurant has a lot of history. All in all, this was a weekend to remember and we will definitely make this one of the places that we will return to year after year!
