Photos and Description of the Kenai vacation house rental
House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

This three bedroom vacation rental, built in 1904 by the Hirshey family - owners of the largest gold operation in Hope - was recently renovated for you. The cabin is secluded on a 1+ acre wooded lot less than five minutes from the heart of town, salmon filled streams, and wonderful hiking trails.

You will love the kitchen! Since travelers arrive at all hours of the day and night, leave at dawn and sleep until noon, we fill the cupboards with oatmeal, dried cherries, pecans, pancake mixes, breakfast bars, granola, cold cereals, bagels and cream cheese, Alaskan jams and syrups. . . and more. Enjoy the luxury of breakfast before you set out to explore. Return home and pull your camp chairs up to an evening fire in the stone fire pit.

Three inviting bedrooms are located upstairs. Two of the bedrooms each have a comfortable full bed, dresser, closet, and Alaskan art. The third bedroom has a bunk bed that children and fishermen can't seem to resist. Our senior citizen guests who don't want to climb the easy stairs report that the sofa sleepers in the living room are as comfortable as beds.

The bathroom is small but charming featuring a tub and shower and a vanity complete with shampoo, cream rinse, towels and a blow dryer. Laundry detergent and a washer and dryer are provided for free for the loads of laundry you need to catch up on. (You see, we really did try to think of everything). We do lend out fishing poles, provide a fish freezer, and you can cook your salmon on the grill.

Owners, Skip and Lisa, live next door. We will greet you and check you in, take you on a tour, teach you how to fish, or leave you to experience your own adventures - after all it is YOUR Alaskan experience and we want to you to experience the vacation of a lifetime!

About Lisa

Your hosts, Skip and Lisa Dent are Alaska Sourdoughs. Skip has lived and mined in Hope for more than 25 years. His daughter and grandchildren still live here. Skip’s hiked and worked all over this part of the state. Lisa was born and raised in Alaska. If she doesn’t know the answer to your question, she’ll find one before you leave.

Lisa purchased this house in 2008
Why Lisa chose Kenai

Hope is a unique and unhurried town featuring a historic district which looks and feels like the gold mining town Hope was in the 1800s. Residents and visitors can hike the mountains or fish the nearby streams, Wander through the historical museum and original log cabins, peer in the 100+ year old social hall, sip an Alaskan brew at the 100 year old pub at the shore of Turnigan Arm. The views are lovely, the mountains spectacular, and the Alaskans who live here are grand.

A charming cabin with so much ambience!

I have stayed at many B&B's and this one was the best provisioned one yet. The pantry and fridge had plenty of choices and the kitchen is set up like a home, not a vacation rental. Beds are comfortable, the house was impeccably clean and the owners...well we just wished we had more time to visit with them. They know a lot about the area and have had very interesting life experiences. There were 5 of us sharing the cabin. Having one bathroom was not a problem at all. We took advantage of Skip's fishing recommendation and used the resident fishing poles to fish for pink salmon. My husband was running the Resurrection Pass 100 and this cabin was within walking distance of the start/finish. Perfect! Having a washer and dryer to deal with running clothes and fishing clothes was priceless. We just loved this place and enjoyed meeting/visiting with the owners. If we ever need to stay in Hope, AK again, we will stay at the Alaskan Byways B&B.

My wife & I & her family spent a few nights at the Alaskan Byways B&B. It was the perfect place for us to stay! Hope is pretty remote, but that is exactly what we were looking for. It didn't disappoint - it is a special place. Skip & Lisa are truly great hosts who obviously love Hope & obviously want to make sure their guests are having a great visit to their beautiful community. Skip & Lisa spent many hours going above & beyond showing us the area, offering advice, showing us the right technique for fishing, etc. The cabin is great & the food provided was more than enough for our breakfasts & then some - even with four boys in the cabin. There are two cafes in town - both serve really great food. My wife & I have rented many properties over the years, but I'm not sure we have ever enjoyed a place more.

What a great time!

We couldn't have picked a better place for our vacation. My brother and I took my father and 12 year nephew on a week long trip of a life time for him. The cabin met or exceeded all our expectations when we arrived it was extremely clean and organized and included all the moderrn convienences needed for a week long vacation in Alaska you never know the house was over 100 years old.. We stocked up on groceries and supplies in ankorage and made what should be about 90 minute drive, but we made numerous stop for picures and to take in the sights on the drive down and made sure to fill up on gas too. Hope is a very small town no gas station or any real conveince store but bring what you need. There is plenty of sight seeing, hiking, gold panning and fishing all within 30mins and the portage glacier was only an hour drive and for $35 you can take a fantastic boat ride to get up close and take some great pictures of the cabin, and watching the bore tide roll into the turnagain arm is a must see. Even though the tempature was in the mid 70ies all week we still found large snow fields to enjoy a snow fight and sliding. The cabin was private enough to feel like we were the only people for miles, But Lisa and Skip were right next door if we had questions or concerns. We were out and about every day only coming back to eat and sleep and never felt like we had to lock our doors. Day one skip gave us the bear and moose survial training and we were on our guard hiking around after that. We caught our share of fish during the week charter fishing halibut, king salmon and combat fishing the Russian which were only an hour or 2 drive to each and the chest freezer came in very handy storing it all.
Lisa and Skip thanks again for a wonderful time and all the tips, hints and help that really did make the trip a once in a life time adventure for us, my dad still has a smile on his face weeks later.
As a side note: during our week the weather coud not have been any better in was mid 70ies all week and even topped 80 the last 2 days. and that time of year we never did see it get dark, but we were so tired by the time we wnet to bed the light never kept any of us up.

We loved the town of Hope and our host Skip drove us all around our first day. He showed us the small town and also showed us places to hike and drive. The home was well stocked and clean. We have rented many houses over the years and Skip, Lisa and Hope have been the best!

First off Lisa is amazing....We wish we had more time here, the house is very cozy and the kids had a great time playing in the yard. Hope isn't a very big town but the little we got to see was nice. Great base camp for local excursions. We traveled around Alaska for 2 weeks and this was our favorite stay, thank you Lisa.
