Sonoma Ranch Golf Course Hacienda - Featured in Nm Magazine

We spent seven weeks (during March-April 2011) in this delightful, very comfortable, very well furnished and equipped house. We thoroughly enjoyed it as a home-away-from home. The décor is beautifully southwestern, leather couch and chairs in the living room not only an attractive part of the open floor plan, but wonderful to lounge on or in – the chairs large enough to curl up in with a book!

But of course we came to southern New Mexico to enjoy the outdoors and the Las Cruces and Mesilla areas, which indeed we did. At the house itself, we took advantage of early morning sun on the enclosed (private) front patio and late afternoons or evenings (when at home!) sitting on the large back patio along the lovely private back yard. As for going out and about, almost all of the area destinations were just a short drive (average 15 minutes) from the house – downtown Las Cruces and museums, Farmers Market, the special village of Mesilla, NMS University, Drippings Springs in the Organ Mountains, etc. etc. etc. Even sights such as White Sands National Monument are only 30 minutes away, so for the ambitious, a couple of such excursions in one day are possible.

Since my husband and I shared one car, it was great to be able to drop him at the golf course two minutes from the house, on my way out to sight-see – or fetch groceries at the nearby supermarket. (For special foods we liked Toucan Market near NMSU.) And at any time, he could just walk over to the golf course to practice putting or hit golf balls. For daily exercise, I could just step out of the house to do brisk walks around the neighborhood – plenty of sidewalks, with some inclines to provide for effort – and walk past the golf course into the rest of the expansive neighborhood where there were always new scenes and new angles of the Organ Mountains to spot!

We’re very much looking forward to our return next year to this house, neighborhood, and the warm sun and people of Las Cruces.
