About Owner/Manager

Joy and Larry Kleefeld: Owning a piece of paradise in Hawaii has been a lifelong dream of ours and we are very happy to share our vacation home with you on your next Hawaiian vacation. We have 6 children, and 5 grandchildren. Joy is involved with patient care at a local hospital. Larry is a chiropractor, looking at retirement on July 15, 2016. We are hoping to spend a good part of the year in Kona after retirement. We enjoy spending time with each other, family and friends, and our avid cyclists and snow sport enthusiasts.

For us Hawaii is a very special place. With the ocean, spectacular sunsets from the lanai, sightseeing and water activities including snorkeling, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing, Kona is an easy choice.

We chose Kailua-Kona with its unique weather, dry climate, beaches and recreation including scuba diving, snorkeling, boogie boarding and surfing. It is well known for the Iron Man Triathlon.

"The Kona Seaflower has everything you need to enjoy the BIG Island. The unit had wonderful views in the distance of the ocean from the balcony. The condo was within walking distance to the Kona Brewery, Downtown Kona, and a short drive to some incredible beaches. Our favorite benefit of the condo was the snorkel equipment, boogie boards, and plenty of towels for beach use. We went snorkeling every morning at a local beach with sea turtles, tropical fish and amazing coral reefs. It was clean on arrival and private. We went out most nights but the kitchen is full size with everything you need to cook meals. The loft upstairs did get a little warm in the summer for our taste but there are fans provided in the unit. The Wifi worked without difficulty. Overall our experience was incredible and we hope to stay here for future vacations. it is a true home away from home. Thanks Larry and Joy for sharing this gem!!!."

Our stay was both enjoyable and relaxing. We found things to be clean and very comfortable. Our island stay was both a rewarding experience and we gained from our relaxing atmosphere coming away from our stay wishing we could have stayed longer.

My husband and I spent one month in this lovely location. This condo had a super well equipped kitchen, was clean and nicely decorated and was conveniently located in Kailua-Kona. We couldn't believe how everything we needed for a one month vacation was here: easy walking distance to access to grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, outdoor markets, tour companies, boutiques, dock, small city beach, local festivities, etc. This was important as we had not intended on renting a vehicle during our stay. We however did use the Trolley to get to know our surroundings.

Owners as well as neighbor (Lloyd) were great in quickly answering our questions and helping with minor issues. The pool area was always clean but pool was somewhat cool/cold but hot tub was a blessing.

This condo was very quiet in the evening but not as much in the morning as garbage and recycling pick-up is done much too early in the morning and is very noisy. However, I must mention that we hardly used the AC so all our windows were open.

The loft bedroom was an oven during the day but cooler in the morning, luckily no one slept there as our children are joining us in Maui in February instead.

We cooked most of our meals and ate in the condo. We found it a challenge to have such high cupboards (as I'm only 5'1 inches) and not have a dining room table only bar stools by kitchen and on lanai. It caused issues for getting up and down and wasn't very comfortable. Since their isn't any room for a table in condo, it would be nice to have a regular table and chairs on lanai.

For the price of the rental, which is quite high, we were surprised to be asked to wash certain things before we left: beach towels, bath towels and bed sheets (linen).

The «Beach» pictures on VRBO web site for this rental were misleading! What we saw on the picture is not quite what we found. Instead close by, we found a very small city beach , not suitable for swimming and not terribly clean. The closest beach was located 45 minutes away by car or trolley.

In conclusion, I must say that we had a very relaxing stay in Kailua-Kona on Big Island. We experienced great tours with friendly and knowledgeable guides, we wined and dined on a sunset cruise, we ate Bubba's shrimp and fresh Tuna (yummy), we saw the volcanoes (tour), we walked outside in January (for a Canadian that's a gift) and we always felt safe! Excellent Experience

Our experience in Larry’s condo was wonderful. The condo has a really good location, close to malls, grocery stores and close also to the tourist area. Walking distance to restaurants and the tourist office.

The condo is well maintained and has everything you need for your stay. The kitchen has all of the amenities that you need and the rooms are comfortable. The terrace is really nice and we enjoyed some meals there.

Larry helped us with some questions that we had before our arrival; he is always ready to answer your questions with good information. He also called after our arrival to know if everything was fine.

This is a place I’ll come back to and that I can recommend to my friends (I already have). They won’t be disappointed at all.

Great location and well equipped

Larry and Joy have done a great job equipping this condo with about everything you could possibly need. I was going to make a list of things I'd recommend they add, and couldn't come up with one. Location is close to everything. While we had a rental car, and there's a designated parking spot, albeit a couple buildings away, you can walk to almost anything. There's a "trolly" that might help those without rental cars. The "beach" is mis-leading, it's very small city beach, and OK for the moment, but find a way to the great beaches along the Kona coast.

I would of given this a 5-star rating, but there was one major problem, mostly compounded by the weather at the time. The upper room is actually a loft, with every little ventilation and no AC on the upper level. It was a stifling oven when we arrived. After opening two louvered windows, it improved, and our 80 year old parents stayed up there, and I don't know how they did it. They said by night, with the aid of a box fan it was bearable, but my wife and I like AC and cool sleeping. The downstairs bedroom (private) has a window AC. Another window AC in living room, keeps the lower floor comfortable, but heat rises, and this loft traps it. The building manager said this was his old unit, and said it's one of the hottest units around. An add-on exhaust fan in one of the louvered windows would help greatly, but hard to do, and maybe not allowed with the policy or code. I toyed with the idea of finding a stand-alone AC unit to rent, but our parents managed. They don't like the extra cool to sleep like we did.

Don't bring beach toys, or accessories for your beach visit. Larry has them all, including 5 boogie boards, 3 beach chairs, a beach canopy, couple beach umbrellas, snorkel gear, mats, coolers, and more.

The washer/dryer is great, and didn't mind washing the beach towels and starting a load of sheets, but on top of the cleaning fee, well. .

There's no smoking allowed ANYWHERE on the resort property (good!), but rather surprised. Only in the condo, and I think this is a no-smoking condo, or should be.

There are some DVD movies or we rented a movie at Redbox at Walmart, which is about a mile north. Recommend Big Island Grille for best American family food and Splashers for best burgers.

Check out Body Glove Dinner Cruise, City of Refuge for history and best snorkeling, Bite Me Fish Market/restaurant for a unique fresh catch meal, Hapuna beach for best sand beach.

Great location in Kona!

Excellent location in Kona! My husband and I took our family of 5 for a two week stay at the Kona Seaflower. The condo was just as described and was clean and well equipped for our active family. The owner called to check in and make sure we were settling in ok and the neighbors are very friendly as well. The condo immediately felt like our home away from home and it's in a convenient location to local restaurants and shopping, so a rental car is optional here. It's a short walk to Ali'i Drive to hit the beach, restaurants and gift shops and there is a shopping center with a grocery store directly behind the condo. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and we spent many evenings cooking family dinners in the condo to stay on budget. The closest beach is located in front of the Marriott, one block away, and it's great for swimming, but if you are looking for surf, take the Kona Trolley from the Pier to Magic Sands Beach. Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Beach are a 30 minute drive north and are well worth the drive. There is an excellent luau at the King Kamehameha Marriot 1 block away from the condo that the entire family enjoyed (even the teenagers) and if you only do one tour during your stay make it the Manta Ray late night snorkel with Splashers for an unforgettable experience.

comfortable and clean condo

Great condo to stay at. Quiet, very clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Loved that Larry called to check in to see how we were doing and he was always quick to respond via email. Stocked with everything we needed for the beach, including a few beach umbrellas perfect for shading my baby from the sun and many beach and pool toys loved by my toddler. Great location as well.
