Villa Mayana is nestled high atop the 75-acre Achiote Private Reserve providing magnificent ocean views while being just steps from the beach. The luxurious estate provides guests with the comforts of a five-star resort, while maintaining privacy for the ultimate Costa Rican vacation experience. Located on Costa Rica’s pacific coast between Dominical and Uvita and directly across from Hermosa Beach, Villa Mayana’s location makes it convenient to numerous outdoor activities, gourmet restaurants, shops and local entertainment. Villa Mayana can be accessed via a 17 minute commuter flight from San Jose to Quepos, or a 2.5 hour drive from San Jose. While guests can enjoy the privacy and stunning views that come with being situated on the Costa Rican mountainside and amidst the lush rain forest, there is no need to spend valuable time driving on rough, unpaved mountain roads. The properties’ manicured, tree-lined driveway allows easy access to the main costal highway in just seconds.
Villa Mayana was designed by world renowned architect Enrique Barascout, and the creators utilized natural sustainable materials that make the estate blend with the abundant, tropical environment. From the stone tile flooring to the ultra comfortable furniture, most finishes and furnishings were imported from Bail. The estate was completed in 2010 and was featured in the March 2010 issue of "Su Casa," Central America's premier architectural magazine. The 270 degree views of the rain forest and Pacific Ocean that can be seen from the bedroom suites and the central living area are simply breathtaking. The fully equipped estate features both imported and locally made furnishings to provide its guests with ultimate style and luxury, while ensuring comfort and relaxation.
The estate is divided into East and West wings which converge onto the central living area featuring 30 foot thatched ceilings and overlooking the 3,000 square foot free form, infinity-edge swimming pool crafted from hand-cut Javanese stone tile. Each wing has two (2) master suites for a total of four (4) master bedrooms. Each bedroom has a huge private bathroom with double sinks and both indoor and outdoor showers. The expansive bathrooms were constructed with imported stone tile and luxury finishes. The bedrooms in each wing are connected by a living room with a king sized day-bed. There are four (4) flat panel TVs with satellite cable and DVD players throughout the bedrooms and livings rooms. Access to the central living area is through covered walkways floating over a 2,000 square foot reflection pond. The main living area contains the large kitchen with island bar for casual dining, large dining table made from a gigantic local Guanacaste tree, outdoor seating area, and living room with large flat panel TV. The lower level (pool area) has casual seating for sunbathing, as well as ample seating options in the shade. In addition to the gourmet kitchen on the main level, there is a full kitchen and dining table on the pool level. Just a short walk from the pool is a natural fire pit area where guests can relax under the stars and away from any visible light. In addition to wrap-around balconies off all bedrooms, there is a private terrace on the West side of the estate overlooking the rainforest and dramatic coastline.
Villa Mayana’s guests will be greeted upon arrival by the on-site concierge that is available to coordinate or arrange any services or activities throughout the stay. Guests can request the fully equipped kitchen be stocked prior to arrival with groceries and beverages of choice. A cook and necessary staff will be provided throughout the stay along with daily cleaning and laundry service. Numerous nearby beaches are accessible by foot and neighboring towns can be accessed by a short car ride. Guests can take a hike through the rainforest to a private waterfall on the reserve. My husband and I couldn't have been any happier with our choice to secure Villa Mayana for our 1-week family vacation in August ‘14. Not only was it an idyllic spot for a restful yet adventurous week, but we also chose this home for the location of our intimate, family-only wedding. All 15 (11 adults & 4 kids, 2-12) fit very comfortably between both wings of the house and had an unreal week. I'll start by saying we were a bit nervous picking a place we had not seen first for the spot of our wedding, but the photos really do a great job depicting reality-in fact, I don't think they do it justice! We were fortunate to see the property during our 1 planning trip in May and were blown away. We were also a bit nervous about the in-country flights and chose to do 1-way driving and 1-way flying during our initial visit. We think flying to/from Quepos is the way to go!
Ana, the house manager, who also doubled as our wedding planner, was nothing short of amazing. She planned all of our activities from zip-lining to white-water rafting to the hike around the private reserve, in addition to coordinating both a masseuse and a yoga instructor to come to the house. She connected us with Citrus for our rehearsal dinner and Bamboo Taco Truck for a beach day with tacos! She was always available to us-both before and while we were there. Ana was incredibly resourceful and organized when it came to the wedding. Message me if you want a full planning review.
Roberto, the chef, was so accommodating when it came to different diets and food requests. Every meal was delicious! He's got a great personality and we really felt like he was part of the group by the end of the week. Adolfo, Roberto's assistant, was wonderfully hospitable. There is an awesomely oversized wood table, which allowed the entire family to eat together for every meal. This was one of our favorite things about the house.
Nelson, the gardener who doubled as our hiking guide, was so helpful the entire week both around the house in the rare case something needed to be fixed and during the wedding day. He was super patient with us during the hike too! The cleaning staff was on point and always had a friendly smile around.
We echo the prior reviews-this will be a dream vacation. We feel lucky the owner, Rick, built this stunning property and opened it up to us for such an important time in our lives. We would not have changed a thing-it was stress-free and perfect! Happy to be contacted with questions.
It is hard to imagine that this place is even more beautiful in person by looking at the pictures on the website. Pictures on the website are beautiful but do not compare to what you see and experience in person!! What a magical experience it was, when we first walked through the main part of the villa and saw the spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean! We are seasoned travelers and have rented various villas in different parts of the world. Villa Mayana is definitely one of our favorites. We were a group of 16 people (8 adults and 8 kids) and our entire experience at Villa Mayana was superb! Many different amenities were available at the villa too which helped make our whole experience there seamless. The villa staff was fantastic and Ana the villa manager was instrumental in helping organize our stay there. We are so thankful that we were provided a local cell phone to use while we were away from the villa. It came in handy in a few situations when we needed to get in touch with Ana. She was always accessible. We also hired a private chef (highly recommend). Our chef Roberto cooked delicious meals- everyone in our party including the children loved his food. He was also very accommodating. His wife Zaida was also there to assist. They are both very sweet people and worked so hard. We highly recommend the Villa Mayana experience. What an amazing trip our party had!
We recently visted Villa Mayana. Our group had 3 families, all with kids 4-8 and we're a well traveled crew that likes to stay in really nice places. Everyone had an amazing time...the property, grounds, hiking trails, and pool were wonderful and enough to keep everyone happy and occupied, but on top of that, we enjoyed the local options from zip-lining to fishing to visiting Corcovado National park. The service was Four Seasons-esque -- handling and helping us with all our arrangements, preparing meals that satisfied both adults and kiddos, and keeping things nice and tidy while we were there enjoying the house.
Everyone was super friendly throughout the trip (both on and off property) so much so that we all intend to return! Don't miss this amazing property if you're headed to Costa Rica....you will not be disappointed!
My husband and I, along with three other couples and my sister arrived at
Villa Mayana and my sister said "this is the most beautiful place I have ever seen". That was a significant compliment as we travel once a year to some very beautiful places. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. Roberto, our chef, cooked us some very delicious meals; his sister, Isabella, helped him prepare and serve the meals. We enjoyed her so much and she is a wonderful seamstress. We all bought several things from her. Ana, the director, was so helpful and was there everyday to meet our every need. And finally, the owner, Rick, whom I have never met but talked to on the phone before our arrival. He was always so accommodating and willing to answer all my questions. He even called upon our return and spoke with my husband to inquire how our trip was and what he could do to improve it. I highly recommend a trip to Villa Mayana. It will be your dream come true. This was an amazing home. The service in amazing!!! The chef made outstanding gourmet meals with incredible style. This is truly a private retreat with amazing views of the ocean and the jungle. The property is immaculate from the private entrance drive to the house. Would highly recommend this home to anyone who is looking for an amazing time.
We just got back from our visit to Villa Mayana and we were completely blown away at the beauty of the house and the property. The house is so well designed with so much attention paid to the details. Every room has a balcony, outdoor showers in each room, gorgeous bathrooms, modern kitchens and beautiful furniture. The dining room table is awesome. The vistas /views from the property are almost too good to be true. I loved the side viewing deck that overlooks the mountain forest. Bring your binoculars! I also loved how we just hooked up our ipod and our music played on all speakers. Our group is well traveled and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We are not sure how we can top this trip. Roberto, the chef, prepared amazing meals, including the most delicious fresh fruit juices at each meal. Ana was so lovely and helpful in all areas, she organized all of our trips and activities (white water rafting, zip-lining, even massages at the home.) She also organized a guide to take us on a serious hike of the property to the waterfall. Thanks Keyston! She even had our rental cars waiting for us at the villa. No detail went unnoticed from her. She is so organized, friendly and helpful. Our visit to Villa Mayana was truly special and we cannot wait to return.
