About Peter

We built this retirement house in 2006 but we are not quite ready to retire. In the meantime we would like others to see the beauty of north Florida and its rivers.

Peter purchased this house in 2006

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear "River Hidaway" folks,

We had a wonderful several days at your lovely retirement home in the idyllic setting of the Suwannee River. We hope to be able to go back. It was probably the most relaxing several days we have ever had. The internet pictures do not do it justice.

The rainy Sunday was spent on the porch reading, relaxing and watching the rain on the river. We loved fishing from the dock and enjoying all the decks.

We have told several others of your wonderful getaway and we hope to be back soon.

Thank you.

Incredible weekend away, beautiful location on the river.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time, so hard to leave this beautiful home. Such a peaceful place to be, the kids had loads of fun, the fishing is great with fresh water springs close by as well. Everything we could possibly ask for was right here, and will be back soon to enjoy this amazing home. Ideal for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. Lots of photos to remind us of our wonderful weekend away with our family!

Awesome stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful house for Labor day. When we got there you could tell that the house was very well taken care of, in and out. It was very clean and cozy, there is so much to do, kayaking, boating, fishing or just relaxing. We had great weather, the views from the home are spectacular, great decks that we enjoyed very much! This is great for multiple families or just a couple, we will definitely be back!!:)

Another AWESOME vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

I have to say that with each year our stay at your beautiful home gets better and better!! This was our third stay and as always we were not disappointed! Your Suwannee house is immaculate and always welcoming! The kitchen is fully stocked with all of the amenities that one could need! The screened in porch overlooking the river is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the river flow by. We absolutely LOVE visiting all of the nearby springs and of course Bob's Water Park, which is very close. I will have to say that vacationing in your home is always relaxing and makes me fall in love with the Suwannee River more and more. We are already planning our return trip next year! Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality!! You don't know how much it means to our family for you to extend your home to us!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for returning again and again and again. Frequently our guests return to the Hideaway because they have found a vacation place that is unique. They feel relaxed here because it is away from the crowds that you find in many resorts. We look forward to your return visit. Thank you for staying at the Hideaway.

Fun and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Suwannee River Hideaway. The house was very spacious, well-equipped, clean, and everything worked great including satellite TV and Wi-Fi. We used the kayaks on the river, fished from the floating dock, and played horseshoes. The screened decks on the house overlooking the river were amazing as well as the hammock near the river. Fishing for catfish and bream was very good. The bait shop in Branford (Spinners and Yarn) sold tackle and crickets. Nearby Itchetucknee State Park was great with tubing in the river and swimming in Blue Hole and Itchetucknee Springs. I’d recommend Itchetucknee Tube Center for tube and raft rentals. They’re the original tube rental location in the area (since 1971) and have a wide selection. Fanning Springs State Park was also very nice for swimming. It was a fun and relaxing trip and the house was awesome. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Owner's Response: Sounds like you covered all the bases. I hope you had time to eat those fish. Kayaking, canoeing, tubing, boating, jet skiing, fishing or just relaxing on the floating dock or one of river decks are some of the ways you can enjoy your time at the Hideaway. Thank you for staying at the Hideaway and for this review.

A PIECE OF HEAVEN ON EARTH

  • 5 of 5

I WROTE A GLOWING REVIEW OF THIS PROPERTY AND LEFT IN THE CABIN. I HAVE TO STOP SAYING CABIN IT WAS LIKE A MANSION TO US. WILLIE AND PETER ABSOLUTELY THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING YOU WOULD EVER NEED IS THERE FOR YOUR USE. THE RIVER AND THE DAILY AND NITELY TRIPS ON THE RIVER WERE SPECTACULAR. I HAVE AN OCEANFRONT CONDO AND I WOULD RATHER BE THERE ON THE RIVER. MY FAMILY ,MY SON AND MY TWO GRANDSONS THOUGHT THEY HAD DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN. THE USE OF THE KAYAKS, THE LIFT THAT THEY HAVE TO TOTE YOUR BELONGINGS INTO THE CABIN WAS REALLY WHY WE CHOSE THIS CABIN. WE CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE USE OF YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME. IT WAS JUST PERFECT.

Owner's Response: Sounds like you and the boys had a great time. The lift is a great help with the luggage and groceries. Use our kayaks and canoe or bring your own watercraft including motor boats or jet skis. The floating dock makes it easy to access the river. Thank you for staying at the Hideaway and for this glowing review. P&W

Girl's getaway

  • 4 of 5

The house is lovely and the view spectacular. The cargo lift is a real plus. Only downside is uncertainty about the river level and it's potential to rise. The area in front of the house is subject to flooding even when the river at the back of the house is below flood stage. This becomes a problem for visitors who stay several days during which the water level increases several inches each night. At that point they either need to be driving SUVs or trucks that can drive through the water or park their lower riding cars at the end of the road and walk out through the neighbors property. The weekend was relaxing and very pleasant and the water was just a minor problem for us when we left.

Owner's Response: Glad you and your girlfriends enjoyed your stay and to quote your last email "we had no problems with the water and I parked my SUV under the house every night except for the last night”. We had kept you advised of the rising water conditions on the Suwannee all week through multiple phone calls and emails. By week’s end when it became apparent that the Suwannee’s slowly rising water might affect your stay at the Hideaway we advised you that we found other accommodations for you off the river, that you could receive a full refund or that you could reschedule. The only uncertainty was whether you would take our advice and stay at the alternative accommodations we found for you. We’re glad you were able to drive through the slowly rising water with no negative results; otherwise I am sure we would be reading about it here. We can do a lot of things to make our guests comfortable and safe at the Hideaway including answering phone calls after 9 pm regarding TV service; however stopping rising water is not one of them. The Suwannee is a wild and natural river with no flood control (dams) and the only river in the SE United States that is still unspoiled and pristine.
