Gayle and son out for a sunny day of riding at Mammoth.
Gayle Slade purchased this house in 2010
The reason we chose this location is I love how close everything is! I lived in the Eastern Sierra for eight years and I am not crazy about driving around during snow storms. I looked at property closer to Lake Tahoe, but when I thought about all the extra driving and traffic, I decided I would rather spend less time on the road. I love the amenities at Tahoe Donner. Donner Lake is gorgeous and only a five-minute drive from our home. And a big plus is how many ski resorts are easier to get to without having the nightmare of driving around Lake Tahoe just to get to a resort. Truckee is charming and has lots of restaurants and I also like how close the market is to our house.
The photos do not do this home justice. It's beautiful, well-maintained, most everything looks brand new! There are beds for 10 (no sofa beds-yay!); we had 4 adults & 2 children in our party and had more space than we knew what to do with! The location is convenient for some time at the beach at Donner Lake (which is the best place for swimming, according to locals; but get there early to get the best sandy spots) and we love eating at Bridgetenders. We enjoyed exploring the area as well as just hanging out at the house. We would definitely recommend this home to our friends and family.
We recently spent a wonderful long weekend at this beautiful home and felt like we totally lucked out in finding it! It is lovely with lots of natural light. It manages to be both open and spacious while also being very cozy. We were two families there - four adults, three school age children and two toddlers. There was lots of room for us to be apart and together. The beds were also amazingly comfortable with high quality linens.
I cannot recommend it highly enough - we definitely hope to come back!
We had a wonderful time at this home and will definitely look to rent it again for upcoming trips. There were 8 of us, including 4 small children, and the home was spacious and comfortable. Great vacation!
Thank you for sharing with us this fantastic home. The house is new and well decorated. The beds are comfortable. We had great time ski and enjoy the family time together after ski. Kids had fun play in the backyard and trails. Owner always respond quickly. One suggestion is to make sure bring snow chain or drive 4x4 for steep slope for the drive way when snowing.
Fantastic home! This is our fourth visit to this beautiful home. We love Tahoe Donner and there is no better place to stay than this lovely, well appointed home. It is clean and spacious, nicely furnished and it sleeps 10. We have stayed in the winter for a ski vacation and it is great to come home to a nice fire and brand new large flat screen tv. The beds are very comfortable (hard to get out of in the morning). Recently, we stayed this past summer and spent each morning walking on the nearby nature trail which comes equipped with an elevated wooden walkway, a beaver dam an amazing meadow, a babbling brook and stunning wildflowers. We used the outside fireplace to roast marshmallows and later I even hung out on the old chairlift swing! We love all the nearby restaurants and the Tahoe Donner Fitness Center is an added plus. We look forward to our next visit. Thanks so much Gayle!
Burglar alarm went off when we first opened the door. No way to turn it off. We couldn't get the television to work during our stay. The VERY steep driveway is dangerous since it exits on a busy highway with blind curves near the exit. House itself was clean and well equipped - no complaints.
