This cute cottage has everything you need for a relaxing and affordable vacation.
Myles, the rental agent, was ultra-responsive -- quickly replying to my emails, even on weekends. The owner, Marie, and her husband live in the house behind the casita. They were consummate hosts -- helpful when asked yet respectful of our privacy.
Marie called before our departure with driving directions, provided a Red Rock parking pass for the trail heads and gladly made her computer available for printing our return-flight boarding passes. We were also suckers for her friendly gold lab, Boone, who lavished us with kisses and belly-rub requests.
Marie has tastefully decorated the casita with bright colors and Native American art. She's worked hard to beautifully landscape the surrounding grounds, which include a BBQ and garden area perfect for meditating. My husband and I slept well each night in the comfy king bed and enjoyed watching the rabbits play in the front yard as we made breakfast in the well-equipped kitchen.
The spacious living room is fully stocked with two cozy couches, a flat-screen TV and DVD player, audio system, wireless laptop and collection of great CDS. We appreciated being able to pack lightly and wash our dirty clothes in the washer-dryer. The bathroom is small, but boasts plush towels and a high-pressure shower.
A few items of note: The casita is located in the peaceful Village of Oak Creek, which offers jaw-dropping views of Bell Rock, but is a bit off the beaten track. Depending on traffic, it's a 15-20 minute drive to uptown and another 5-10 minutes to West Sedona, where our favorite trail heads were located.
The casita is an open floor plan -- no door or full-height wall separates the bedroom from the rest of the cottage. It was fine for the two of us, but might pose issues for some with children sleeping in the living room.
The concrete floor is hard, so bring slippers to cushion your feet. We left off the ceiling's humming florescent lights and used the floor/table lamps or our head lamps instead.
These were minor complaints, however. We thoroughly enjoyed our magical week in Sedona, and would recommend this rental to people looking to soak up the area's beauty.
