'STAY OHIA' SECLUDED RETREAT IN VOLCANO 1300 SQ FT PRIVATE

Volcano Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

We have built a BRAND NEW comfortable secluded 1300 sq.ft. home in the volcano fern forest. We love spending time here for the quiet atmosphere, fireside experience and relaxed peaceful getaway feeling. We want to share it with you in hopes that you will find this too. This is the 'Big Island' and if you are visiting Kona, it's a long drive to circle the island in one day, so making a couple nights stay in the Volcano area at our place will be the ideal way to do it.

There is so much to see and do at the Volcano National Park, not to mention visiting Hilo and the beaches there. Or just 'STAY OHIA' like we do to relax and enjoy the fern forest and quiet. Our place is full of the best that we always wanted in a get away cabin, such as pine walls, black granite counter tops, slate and tigerwood floors, stainless steel appliances and the latest in media entertainment, all the way from the old fashion record player to a large flat screen high definition tv, Ipod docking and the ability to see your computer on the tv for slide shows of your most recent trips.

We are long time residents of Kona and are used to helping tourists have the best time while they're here so feel free to email us. All the best with your travels, Mike and Liz

About Liz Wright

My husband Mike works for a catamaran company in Kona. I have a professional cleaning business as a self employed owner for more than 20 years. I have lived in Kona for 35 years, originally from Vancouver, Canada, and Mike has been here for 26 years, originally from Oahu. We own our home in Kona and enjoy the volcano area when we can. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA' Mike Cabral and Elizabeth Wright

Liz Wright purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Liz Wright chose Volcano

We love this area because it's so opposite from Kona. It's cool and country with beautiful fern forests all around. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA'

What makes this cabin unique

I've always loved a 'real wood burning' fireplace and that is what we have at our spacious cabin style home. It's a warm comfortable atmosphere that allows us to enjoy the things we don't in the faster pace of Kona, like playing music, board games or just relaxing with good conversation. I do a bit of running and the neighborhoods are generally flat and free of roaming dogs.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for 4 nights in June of 2014. The owner provides everything you could possibly need. They have complimentary bagels and muffins in the freezer waiting for you in case you can't get to the store beforehand. Definitely do your shopping in Hilo as this house is 30 minutes away and there is not much in Volcano Village. Make sure to bring warm clothes as it is very chilly at night. It was 55 in the house when we woke up in the morning! They provide nice heaters and a really nice wood burning stove. I was really surprised because I am from Colorado and am used to altitude and cooler nights. The humidity makes a big difference. The owner has lots of instructions for everything and the location to the national park is great. It was nice to go hiking in the park and come "home" in about 5 minutes. The photos represent the rental nicely, the kitchen is stocked well and it is very clean! You will not be disappointed in this rental.

I want it to myself!!

  • 5 of 5
This place was so amazing that I didn't even want to share this review because I want the rental all to myself. It is in a great location and the house is so nice, clean and comfortable. I didn't even want to leave. Next time I will stay longer in Hawaii just so I can enjoy the rental!! The owners are great and they even got us a great discount on the night snorkeling with the manta rays. It was one of the most magical things I have ever done!! This is by far the best rental I ever stayed at!

Private Volcano Sanctuary - much better than a resort

  • 5 of 5
This property is as nice (if not nicer) than the photos indicate. The owner has provided ALL amenities you could possibly imagine which make this an easy five-star accommodation rating. The wine selection, gourmet cooking amenities, wood-burning fireplace, high-end BBQ, spa-like toiletries, cozy bedding, picturesque setting, and close proximity to Volcano National Park all contribute to a unique experience simply not possible at other Big Island properties.

Stay Ohia - beautiful!

  • 5 of 5
This beautiful home is well appointed, clean and very comfortable. The home is on a quiet street, nearly new and well maintained for guests. The fully-stocked kitchen was perfect for cooking our breakfast each day and we also washed clothes. The owner has flashlights, beach towels, straw mat, a few jackets and ice chests for day excursions to the volcano and south beaches. Don't miss Ahalanui tide pool with the freshwater warmed by the volcano and little fish swimming in it! No need to buy bottled water but bring refillable bottles to fill with the filtered water provided. Jagger Museum has a great lookout to see Kilauea caldera glowing at night (it's chilly). Bring the flashlights and jackets in the house. The listing photos are accurate and show the home's features. Be sure to arrive during the day so you can find the home easily. Hilo is a 30-minute drive away and we bought fruit at the amazing Saturday farmers market. The Pacific Tsunami Museum was fascinating with its exhibits, films and artifacts.

Do NOT dine at Kilauea Lodge Restaurant. The food is very mediocre and way overpriced. I highly recommend the Volcano House in the national park across from the visitor center. There is one restaurant and a casual bar restaurant. Both have excellent views of the crater and we really liked the food at both places. At the bar I had the market salad which was fresh and tasty and at the restaurant I had the "Taste of Hawaii" bento box lunch special and it was fabulous! The Thai Thai restaurant in Volcano Village is very good, too.

Be sure to bring fresh fruit and veggies from Kona before arriving. The food/convenience store in Volcano village has milk, eggs, bread, beer/wine and frozen food but is overpriced.

Everything you could want, plus more!!!

  • 5 of 5
The owners of this rental thought of every single amenity that would make our stay absolutely perfect. The house was even cuter than in the photos but was just as the photos showed online. From the cozy slippers at the front door to the extra blankets to curl up on the couch by the fire, we felt right at home. It was the perfect place for two couples to have their own space but also spend time together in the living room or back porch. We went to a local produce market and grilled local Big Island beef and had local veggies & sweet potatoes for dinner. Making an elaborate meal was no problem because there were plenty of utensils and bowls for serving as well! We really liked the notes around the house. Having bagels and muffins for our first morning at the cabin was wonderful too, as we got to the rental late in the evening and were not able to pick up groceries before places in Volcano Village closed. Thanks for making our last stop on the Hawaiian Islands one to remember! We loved every minute staying in your home!
