|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
We have built a BRAND NEW comfortable secluded 1300 sq.ft. home in the volcano fern forest. We love spending time here for the quiet atmosphere, fireside experience and relaxed peaceful getaway feeling. We want to share it with you in hopes that you will find this too. This is the 'Big Island' and if you are visiting Kona, it's a long drive to circle the island in one day, so making a couple nights stay in the Volcano area at our place will be the ideal way to do it.
There is so much to see and do at the Volcano National Park, not to mention visiting Hilo and the beaches there. Or just 'STAY OHIA' like we do to relax and enjoy the fern forest and quiet. Our place is full of the best that we always wanted in a get away cabin, such as pine walls, black granite counter tops, slate and tigerwood floors, stainless steel appliances and the latest in media entertainment, all the way from the old fashion record player to a large flat screen high definition tv, Ipod docking and the ability to see your computer on the tv for slide shows of your most recent trips.
FREE WIFI too!!
We are long time residents of Kona and are used to helping tourists have the best time while they're here so feel free to email us. All the best with your travels, Mike and Liz
My husband Mike works for a catamaran company in Kona. I have a professional cleaning business as a self employed owner for more than 20 years. I have lived in Kona for 35 years, originally from Vancouver, Canada, and Mike has been here for 26 years, originally from Oahu. We own our home in Kona and enjoy the volcano area when we can. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA' Mike Cabral and Elizabeth Wright
Liz Wright purchased this cabin in 2009
We love this area because it's so opposite from Kona. It's cool and country with beautiful fern forests all around. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA'
I've always loved a 'real wood burning' fireplace and that is what we have at our spacious cabin style home. It's a warm comfortable atmosphere that allows us to enjoy the things we don't in the faster pace of Kona, like playing music, board games or just relaxing with good conversation. I do a bit of running and the neighborhoods are generally flat and free of roaming dogs.
We stayed in mid march for 3 nights. Its one of the 'has-everything' property we've ever stayed. Because, it was bit cold in March, we didn't get to use the backyard, but it seemed very peaceful. This home is very closer to the park and also Hilo. What we love about this property is, how open the layout is and still the bedrooms are tucked-in. We were only two and didn't use the second bed room. But, but there is enough room for 4 people. We highly recommend this property to anyone. The only issue I could think so far is, might be minor leak on the shower heads, so makes the shower little harder in addition to being low pressure. Its known that Volcano does not have county water access. So, we used bottled water for pretty much everything. The owners also provide filtered water. As I mentioned earlier, its not a concern for us. But, fixing the shower head could increase the water flow little better. The owner provided clear instructions for everything and was prompt in communication and returning the security deposit. Thanks Liz for sharing your home with us. We're already planning for our trip next year!
We spent a week in this lovely Volcano Rental. Anything you could possibly need is provided and the owner, Liz, was very helpful in providing check-in information. We particularly enjoyed listening to the birds from the front and back lanais. From our Stay Ohia "headquarters" , we hiked Kilauea Iki trail, as well the Bird Park Trail, and the Petroglyphs trail. We explored the craters along Chain of Craters Road and were so surprised by the amazing Sea Arch at the end of the road. We attended the Living History talk by Professor Thomas Jagger and several other presentations at Volcano National Park. We golfed at Volcano Golf Course and were able to view nene geese all over the course. We visited the winery and bowled at KMC. Lava Rock Cafe. Kilauea Lodge, and Uncle George's Lounge at Volcano House gave us excellent dining options. You can't go wrong with this rental, which is about a 5 minute drive to Volcano National Park and Volcano Village.
We loved this property. Everything was as stated and more. Liz was quickly available for questions by phone or e-mail before we booked and after we arrived. Her home was so welcoming and comfortable, beautiful and very clean. The wood stove made it so warm and cozy. The location was perfect - close to Volcano National Park and other sights in Hilo and to the south of the park. We would love to stay here again and would highly recommend this property to others. You will not be disappointed.
We only stayed for three days, but had we known 'Stay Ohia' was so comfortable we would have stayed for longer. Very quiet, peaceful cabin. We loved the bagels the first day. The house was immaculate. Lots of games and movies to keep you company if it rains. Very close to Volcano National Park. The living area is large and the layout is very comfortable. The beds were warm and comfy. You do have to watch the corners of the bed, but not hard to miss.
Go to the Lava Rock Cafe for inexpensive hardy food!
The washer and dryer worked great and the water supply was ample and convienant. I really enjoyed our stay and hope we get to go back!
This cozy cabin is extremely clean, well appointed, and very welcoming. Use the space heaters and/or the wood stove (great instructions provided) to keep away the damp and chill and you'll be very comfortable. Liz was very responsive to our e-mails - she has the aloha spirit!
We loved this house! First of all, it's beautiful. So welcoming, we felt like it was a home not just a rental.
There are many extras that you do not find in many rentals, such as plastic bags, flashlights, umbrellas and even muffins in the fridge. :) I did find the house a bit cold and humid (it was raining when we got there and rained the whole night), but it could have been easily fixed by starting a fire (we just didn't). I recommend that you do if it gets too cold since it the middle of the rainforest the humidity will worsen the cold sensation.
The house is a couple of minutes form the entrance of the Volcanoes National Park which is great.
Liz was friendly and helpful. I would go back again.
