The Perfect Place

My wife, sister and I spent a week in this wonderful place and I will try to tell you about the highlights. We arrived at approx 6pm after traveling 10 hours from Maine and when we arrived, there was a fire going in the wood stove and chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven. We were met by a wonderful host, Dawn and immediately felt at home. My wife and sister were very impressed with FRESH FLOWERS ( ROSES)in every room and FRESH FRUIT on the table. We were there to take in several shows and to see as much as we could in a week so we were going just about all day and when we arrived back at the place there was always a fire going in the wookd stove. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture and what a picture it was. Every moning I would get up and have my coffee while I overlooked a hugh Amish farm and even observed a Sunday Service going on at that farm house. We will certainly return to Fern Wood when every we are in that area.

Home Away from Home

My husband and I traveled to PA to adopt our newborn daughter. We were required to stay in PA for 5-10 business days and so I went searching for a place to stay. When I found this listing and contacted Dawn, she was so wonderful and flexible with us! Even when our little girl arrived 10 days early, Dawn and Herb were so welcoming and accommodating. We really felt like we were in our own little sanctuary. The apartment was clean and ready down to every little detail, Dawn even made us a sweet breakfast roll and had fresh fruit and flowers when we got there. Although we didn't get to see the beautiful garden that Dawn has created there (they were buried under a few inches of snow), the view of the farms and surrounding area were beautiful! I can't imagine a better place for us to start our lives as a family of 3! If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be returning to Fern Wood. I can't recommend this haven enough!

What a Way to End 2012!

My friend and I left Brooklyn, NY, early the day after Christmas in an effort to avoid the blizzard that was expected that day. We were intent on getting to our "girlfriend getaway." The drive was long with traffic delays. However, it was very much worth the effort. Upon arrival, we were met by some beautiful birds, as they scurried about in the garden, the breathtaking vistas of Fernwood Gardens, the smell of the wood burning in the fireplace, the sound of piano music on the CD player and Ms. Dawn's beautiful smile. After unloading the car, we stepped out for a WalMart run and returned to some yummy, freshly baked cookes. (Not a bad way to start a vacation.) The apartment is just lovely, furnished with the type of furniture one can just sink into. The decor is absolutely charming. We wanted for nothing, as every amenity we could think of was readily available. The truth is, it was hard to leave, even after 5 nights there. :)

I spent my mornings in the garden with "my birds" and was just overwhelmed by the peace and tranquility of that place. I was blessed to have taken a 2+ hour walk on a beautiful country roadside one snowy Saturday afternoon with Ms. Dawn, who imparted words of wisdom and shared some of the history of that area in PA.

We visited Kitchen Kettle Village, the outlets, spent a liesurly Sunday afternoon at a friend's home and enjoyed the scenery as we drove around the farmlands. But, if I were honest, other than my solitary moments in the garden, I am most grateful for the conversations we had with Ms. Dawn when she came down to replenish
the wood logs each night. (A task that neither Jeanette nor I dared take on. :)

This place is a truesure. It is perfectly suited for those who'd like to visit the tourist attractions. But it is also a wonderful place for personal retreat. I look forward to visiting again...

We just spent a week at Dawn and Herb's home staying in their 'Cozy Garden Getaway". It was so charming, warm, inviting, very clean, quite, peaceful, lovely and we will be defintely will be back. The location is excellent for beautiful scenic drives and close to most everything you would need while visiting the Lancaster area.
Dawn and Herb are wonderful hosts as they welcomed us to their home. While staying there they made sure we has everything to make our stay a pleasant memory.

We stayed at Fernwoods for 3 nights and enjoyed each and every moment !!! The house was so nice and tastefully decorated :) Dawn takes care of the little things that make a lot of difference :)) A beautiful flower arrangement and freshly baked cookies welcomed us into the house ...she also bought two little soft toys , the boys were so happy playing with them :)) We loved the garden ...Having breakfast on the patio with breathtaking views of the garden , country side and kids playing in the garden or feeding the fish , is what our mornings looked like :))

We went for buggy rides, rode the train at Strasburg Railroad, visited Hersheys chocolate world, had fun at Cherry crest farm and also saw the caves at Indian echo cavern :)) It was a fun trip , Dawn & Herb's house was the best thing...We loved coming back to the cozy house that felt like home :))
We look fwd to coming back and wld definitely recommend the house to our friends :)) Thanks for making our stay so comfortable Dawn :))
