We are ONE BLOCK from a pristine sandy beach on the Chesapeake Bay! How long does it take to get there? Watch our short video A WALK TO THE BEACH.

So many folks tell us that after a long drive, arriving at a house they've never seen before, when they walk inside SOUTHERN BREEZES the first word they utter is 'Wow!' So we call it the 'Wow factor' --how loud the 'Wow' expresses how charming, spacious, and clean the house is. Cape Charles is a Victorian village, and our grand old four-level brick duplex epitomizes the character of the town.

Built in 1923 for two families, that's the way SOUTHERN BREEZES remains today. Choose between the NOR'WESTER for up to 8 people (maximum 6 adults) or the NOR'EASTER for up to 10 (maximum 8 adults).

The Nor'wester and Nor'easter each include a living room and front porch, dining room, eat-in kitchen and half bath on the first floor. An easy walk up the presentation staircases brings you to three bedrooms and a full bath. The full basement includes a laundry room with stall shower and sink on each side with storage space for bicycles and fishing gear, just a few steps down from the outside entrances.

The Nor'wester has 1 king bed, 1 queen bed, 2 twin beds, and 2 bunks. The bunks are on the sleeping porch sunroom for kids old enough to be downstairs by themselves. (And they will be thrilled -- there's even a TV!)

Over in the Nor'easter there's a king and a twin in the front bedroom, a queen and a twin in the middle bedroom, a queen in the back bedroom and 2 bunk beds downstairs in the main part of the house (intended for kids only).

Every room has cable TV/DVD plus online movies & music -- thousands of titles from Netflix, Amazon, Cracker, and Hulu, plus Pandora music. And the living rooms have Angry Birds and Pac-Man games as well.

And of course, we have high-speed WIFI Internet!

The kitchens have seating for 6, and the formal dining rooms seat up to 8. The living rooms each have both a sofa and a love seat -- ideal for watching movies on the big screens.

Each room has its own window AC, so everybody can be happy at their own preferred temperature. Or, open the big windows and catch the breezes! The bedrooms have ceiling fans and transoms over the doors. Off season, enjoy the old-fashioned steam radiators that will warm you to the bone!

There's a shower/bath on each second floor, another shower in each lower level laundry room, and a private hot shower outside (our favorite).

Updated kitchens include a double-door fridge with water and ice dispenser, dishwasher, disposal, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender, electric teapot, etc.

Four cruiser bicycles on each side, and two more in the carport.

Full-size washer and dryer in each laundry room.

The entire house has been repainted in fresh, cheerful colors, and the bed selection ranges from firm to plush. Heavenly!

You'll enjoy 'Cracker Barrel' rockers and wicker furniture on the divided front porch, stainless steel pots and pans in the kitchens, and both gas and charcoal grills in each separate picnic area out back.

We provide premium quality sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels (including beach towels), soap, dishes, silverware, and pots & pans. Also lots of books and magazines -- plus the town library is a 5-minute walk away!

Arranging to stay at SOUTHERN BREEZES is easy: no contract to sign, no check to write, no security deposit, no worries about keys. Just call George with your credit card info. You'll receive an email receipt and welcome letter with everything you need to know, including the lockbox combination on the front door. When you depart, just return the key to the lockbox -- that's it!

Everyone LOVES our monthly payment plan! For example, reserve six months in advance and have 1/6 automatically charged each month to your credit card. Or if you prefer, pay half to reserve and half upon arrival. Either way, if you have to cancel for any reason, all your payments are refunded without penalty.

This house has it all: historic charm, perfect location to beach and town, and reasonable rates -- all geared toward families looking for a relaxing, spacious, clean but not too fancy old homestead for gatherings up to 6 adults per side plus their children and the family dog. PARENTS -- This area is perfect for children! The bay is calm and shallow. There's a huge park and playground just up the street. And with minimum traffic and the shallow bay, you can relax and let your older children roam and bike the town at will. There's a skateboard park, tennis court, basketball court (at Baptist Church), beach volleyball games every night, fishing and crabbing. For a change of pace, take a day trip across the bridge to Virginia Beach, Busch Gardens, and Williamsburg.

We are two families who purchased SOUTHERN BREEZES with the aim of retiring here. After living all over the world, we can say we've never seen a place quite like Cape Charles -- the town that time forgot!

George Southern purchased this house in 2010

Maybe we're biased, but we think Monroe Avenue is the best street to live on in Cape Charles! It starts at the beach and runs to Central Park, where it stops, so there is no through traffic! You can count the cars that pass in an hour on the fingers of one hand -- and they drive about 10 mph.

For all its charm, Cape Charles has yet to be overrun by tourists. Most of the available lodging is in privately owned homes like ours. Come stay in a restored private home and you'll feel like you always lived here!

Location was great -- close to the beach and close to the playground and the shops in town! Everything we needed was in the house. The girls (6 & 9) enjoyed the boogie boards and playing on the beach using the sand toys. We all enjoyed games and movies. Thanks for a pleasant stay! There was adequate room for 4 adults and 2 children.

We had a wonderful time! Mom, Dad, 2 kids, 2 dogs all shared the Nor'wester. We spent almost every morning at the beach and most evenings at the fishing pier. (Right at dusk is the best time to catch fish.) We caught 3 fish and 3 crabs all within 20 minutes of getting to the pier, which is good since our kids are 5 and 7 and have short attention spans! We loved being able to walk to beach or park or town whenever we wanted. All the amenities included in the house were ideal -- everything we needed and more! We would never leave if we could!

Fun for Cousins!

Great time! House is perfect for a group. We cooked a lot so we spent most nights relaxing at home, watching movies, or hanging out on the porch with our fantastic neighbors from the other side of the house. Beach, every day, right down the street. Everything was better than described and owners couldn't be nicer. Hope to be back soon!

Two Wonderful Weeks in July

We (2 adults and 2 children, ages 10 and 13) stayed for 2 weeks in the Nor'easter side of the house and found it in all respects to be a great accommodation. The house was fully furnished in every way, from bed linens to bikes (which we used with pleasure to explore the town and its surroundings). Everything in the house was clean and fresh. The house was wonderfully close to the beach and swimming, and well equipped with umbrellas and pool toys for days at the beach. It was also great having an outside shower at the back of the house after visiting the beach.

Our landlords were very friendly and accommodating in regard to our questions about the area, etc.

All in all, this is a place you want to return to, where you can enjoy sitting on the porch in the evening, listening to the crickets, and soaking up the quiet, friendly atmosphere.

We are ONE block from the beach. Maybe we're biased, but we think Monroe Avenue is the best street to live on in Cape Charles! It starts at the beach, runs to Central Park, and stops, so there's no through traffic! Almost every place is an easy walk: Kelly's Gingernut Pub & Restaurant, the new harbor Seafood Shanty, various gift/arts/antique shops, coffee shops, sandwich shops, public library, Post Office, churches, Pizza/deli, Watson's Hardware, Palace Theatre, Bailey's Bait & Tackle. Rayfield's Pharmacy and soda fountain and the public marina. Aqua Restaurant in Bay Creek is a mile away. Golf courses (and Coach House Restaurant) are 5 minutes away.
