My husband is a retired attorney and me, a retired chiropractor. We both moved to San Francisco about 30 years ago and our cousins rented Sutro Hts more than 40 years ago and the family has been here ever since. We all love good food & wine, travel and the outdoors ...hiking has a special place in my heart because of with whom & where we've been. Our dog Bou, a rather large Yorkie loves to hike, eat & travel too. No one ever knows he's on the plane until, upon landing, he pops out of his carrier. We are mostly on the East coast these days with our family expanding through the siblings. We decided to share our place with people other then friends and family, all of which have made repeated appearances to Sutro Hts. We have left our belongings and hope all visitors has the best time possible. Most don't think of the ocean when San Francisco is mentioned but you'll never forget it.
I am from New Jersey and my husband is from Dallas, Texas. We have both been in San Francisco near thirty years. Sutro Heights being my home for all of it. I rented but when it was available we purchased the whole building. We love this neighborhood and is well known to SF residents because of what it has to offer. Now we are going to share with more then our friends and family members. We have such easy access to downtown San Francisco, Marin and SFO, still having the cultural side at our fingertips. We love to hike, we enjoy museums, the planeterium, the new Academy of Sciences building is awesome and we picture-take, and too much more to mention here. It truly is quiet here with the constant soft sound of the surf and with sand stairs at the end of the block leading to the beach and the 24 hr Safeway grocery store or up a few short blocks to, in my opinion, the prettiest view of the Golden Gate Bridge, it's an ideal location. We listen and look at the ocean and can almost see the zoo 2 miles down the Great Highway and love to visit the buffalo blocks away in GG Park. We pass the archery field only 3 blocks away on our way to the golf course, 4 blocks away. Our family and friends have been visiting for the past 30 years and we all agree, for an experience including all aspects of what San Francisco has to enjoy our spot is perfect. To go north to Muir Woods we go through Lincoln Park Golf course(public) and the Presidio offering a view of the Marin headlands and the GG Bridge, my former work route too. I love Walgreens because they are throughout the USA and we are only blocks away. I know and love SF but can't imagine staying anywhere else, unless you have a very limited time and schedule but if this is a vacation or you have any flexibility and you want access to as much beauty and comfort as possible, Sutro Heights is where we and many others have found it.
A quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors we've known for decades. The area is so close to bus lines, parks, zoo, restaurants, etc. Most people don't even know about our 2 block street though everyone knows the neighborhood. You leave the house and literally get anywhere in the city . We are on a hill offering us a 180 degree view of the West coast, see at least 25 miles which we know for sure because we can see the Farallon Islands, simply gorgeous.(unable to see at sea level!) I enjoy our famous fog, I love watching it roll in on the horizon and listening to the fog horn while having the fireplace warm the place. Another delight is the marine layer. It looks like a veil over the coastline, what you'd expect to see at the pearly gates. We have a backyard blanketed with calla lilies, they grow wild and we pick them during their bi-annual bloom and decorate all around the place. Some as large as your head. Tenants are welcome to pulling some for their stay here. There's a coffee roastery, neighborhood movie theatre, Queen Wilhemina's tulip Garden at the base of the Windmill, the best marguaritas in the world, really! at Tommy's Mexican Restaurant and much much more. Ethnic restaurants too! Whew, I could go on & on...
