Why Carol Van Dyken chose Akumal
While researching a family trip in early 2008, we came upon these homes for sale in Chemuyil Mexico. We had no intention of purchasing a home in Mexico, but enticed by the beauty of the area, we decided it would be a nice place to spend winters when we retire. We sent a deposit, and drove out to take a look at the neighborhood during our March 2008 trip to Akumal ... we were hooked. The subdivision had been built about six years prior as housing for workers, and had basically sat empty. The homes were pretty sad looking, but we knew they had potential. From our first glimpse of the casa, which was a photo sent via e-mail, we were in love. Chan Chemuyil is a neighborhood in transition. It started out as rows of cookie-cutter cement boxes, but is blossoming into a vibrant community. As owners have added patios, gardens, walls, and a myriad of paint colors each home now parades its uniqueness.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Casa Caralinde was the perfect spot for our family of four. Because it is not in a heavily touristed district, you can feel like you can spread out a bit with your family, enjoy some peace, and not have the noisiness or craziness of other locales. While the house itself is really great, comfortable, and had everything we needed to cook some very nice meals, the real charm is what Casa Caralinda is close to. The nearby town of Chemuyil is a very cool town that is rare in the area in that it is not at all overrun with foreigners. It can be a bit tricky to navigate without speaking Spanish, but even with a smidgen of Spanish it would be easy to accomplish whatever you needed to. The nearby town of akumal has very nice snorkeling, and the waters are calm enough that my 5 year-old son and I could snorkel together and check out the sea turtles. We highly recommend this place.
