Guestbook comments from the owner
I was thinking about Point of View on my way to work this morning and I can't tell you how much Point of View reminded me of the cottage on a lake in Indiana where we spent our summers when I was a kid. You know it is a good vacation when your mind takes you back every once in a while. Loved to watch the marine life thru the "window" in the floor of the kitchen!

We chose this home because of the incredible location and open water views. Located on a quiet island but close to Marathon and shopping this offered the best of all worlds, not to mention the 50 ft pier for docking y our boat or enjoying the sun.

Aside from being fully equipped with everything to make your stay relaxing. You will love just sitting on the back covered porch and watching the ocean, reading a good book or enjoying a great dinner in an incredible setting.

PERFECT!

There isn't enough great things to say about this place. We loved the location, the views, sunrises/sunsets, the grounds (or lack there of :)), EVERYTHING! The sound of the ocean splashing up on the rocks below the house is so soothing for the soul. We can't wait to go back, again & again!

PERFECT VACATION ~ TWO FINS UP!!

  • 5 of 5
Point of View has to be one of my very favorite vacation spot of all time! This place has heart and soul - from the moment of walking up the boardwalk to the back porch with the incredible views and crystal clear water while the gentle breeze blows...the white crane (?) perched as if he is the welcoming committee. The beautiful interior of this wonderful 1950's home has been updated and renovated with character. Our family couldn't stay off of the dock...fishing, watching the abundant sea life swim by....manatees, sharks, sting rays, sea turtles, tarpon, dolphins and lots of fish. We also snorkeled right off the dock looking carefully in the grassy bottom, seeing lots of interesting sea life. Selfishly, I hate to give this place too much credit because I don't want the schedule to be filled when I book it next time. The kitchen was well stocked with all the cooking utensils and appliances we needed. (We cooked in a lot) There is not much in the vacinity of Conch Key except Hawk's Cay which is about a mile south at Duck Key. There were fishing and scuba/snorkeling boats and a small store and ice cream shop. They rent a variety of watersport toys. The location of Conch Key was great for a day trip to Key West or Key Largo....and Marathon was a short drive for the grocery store.
Point of View is a no-brainer for our next trip to the Keys!

FUN IN THE SUN (AND RAIN)

  • 5 of 5
Point of View is located in a quaint fishing village right in the middle of all that the Florida Keys have to offer. It is the perfect place to get away from it all and experience the best of both worlds. We enjoyed fishing from the pier and feeding the manatees as they passed under the dock. The sunsets are incredible! We spent a day in Key Largo and another day in Key West. There is so much to do in the area and there was nothing better than to come home to Point of View for a very relaxing evening to enjoy the ocean wildlife and gorgeous views. The quaint, historical cottage is beautiful with all the amenities necessary to relax in the sun. We love our time spent at Point of View and look forward to it every year.

NOT WHAT I HAD EXPECTED

  • 3 of 5
Husband and I plus 2 pets stayed here for 10 days in January.
We had stopped by the year before to check things out and we thought we had found a great place but in reality it needed some work.
Staying on the bay side has many disadvantages.. every day it was incredible windy and one could not sit outside for any length of time.
The rooms were quite dirty and dusty and some maintenance issues were not taken care of until we had left.
Ceiling fan in bedroom, replacing circuit breaker box, cleaning adequately were the problems here.
The place is charming and is comfy but too many areas were quite dirty.
I and husband spent 20 minutes cleaning the bedroom after the first night since it was full of dust, ceiling fan, headboard, in back of picture frames ( gobs of dust) top of the curtain of the closet area, under the furniture and bed.
We had the window open at night to have a breeze since the fan wasn't working and you will hear the wind howling and the water splashing. Turning on the AC was not enough when window is closed, one needed the fan.
Look at contract stating maintenance issues.
The second bedroom was even more dirty and smelled musty with the blinds needing replacing and the wicker headboards full of dust. ( we kept the door shut and that needs replacing since it is warped)
The living room furniture has not been steamed cleaned and is soiled.
The kitchen area was quite full of all the pots and pans and had no room for groceries but was the best part of the house.
Outside, the shore area collected a ton of sea grass and in the afternoon had a bad smell.
The front decking needs reinforcing as one can easily trip and push through it.
One incident where my husband removed a night light and short circuited and sparked had no concern for his safety rather than blame for short circuiting and losing power and internet.
Unbeknown to us at the time the owner's partner lives 3 doors down and came down to see what had happened and a maintenance man shortly after.
We received out deposit and was told that the cleaning ladies were fired and replaced.
We have stayed in several cottages and homes and it amazes me how little money is ever put back into the place to make it nice.
Safety issues and cleanliness plus location at time of year should be a major consideration when renting this vacation rental.
We also had a jet ski that we could not launch down the road as they had major sea grass issues and not cleaned at all.
We launched in Marathon instead.

Owner's Response: We appreciate constructive criticism and will do everything in our power to correct any problems. This is the very first review less than 5 stars. We responded immediately to this tenants complaiints and had an electrician there ASAp after I was informed that a circuit had blown when the tenant removed a night light (this had never happened before). The ceiling fans have been replaced as well as the furniture in the living room (all new) We have also replaced the cleaning crew due to the complaints and we now have someone inspect after each tenant to insure cleanliness. We have no control over Mother Nature and the sea grass, wave action or the wind!! As to the comment on maintenance, we have spent thousands of dollars maintaining this property which is an endless job as it is over the water and continue to do so. Our returning guests come back year after year as they find Point of View to be a very unique and enjoyable place to spend time and we have made every effort to insure everyone's enjoyment.

WATER BUG

  • 5 of 5
Location, location, location!!!! This house was super, it sits over the water on the dock.. Can't get any closer to the water than that. Fish right from the dock, saw Manatee, sea turtles and terrapin from the dock. Clean and well maintained, air conditioner worked great, all and all very nice. Great restaurants minutes away at Duck Key or Marathon. Sunsets were incredible!!
