PERE MARQUETTE BEACH - LAKE MICHIGAN - VERY COOL - START YOUR VACATION HERE!!!

Muskegon House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 9

I knew Bluffton had a charm all its own. It is nestled between the bluffs of Lake Michigan and the shores of Muskegon Lake. During the vaudeville era is was the summer resort area for Buster Keaton and other vaudeville luminaries. Hence, the name ?Actors Colony? originated and is used to this day. There is evidence of street car rails on Thompson Street adjacent to Cherry Street. The homes are all different; to say, older, remodeled and with much character. I purchased this property in 1999 and used it for a monthly rental several years. However, at some point, I realized it could be a great weekly vacation property. I had a desire to improve it and develop its potential. I have had fun decorating and creating an environment where people will enjoy themselves and want to return.

The back yard has a large fire pit and fire wood is provided free of charge. Laundry soap is provided. 2 10-speed bikes are available and one 'old fashion' bike with a basket is available. The home is so warm and cozy. At night you can hear the waves on Lake Michigan. Beautiful neighborhood.

Activities : Many festivals in Muskegon throughout the year. USS Silversides Museum at Pere Marquette beach; swimming in the clean, lovely waters of Lake Michigan; boating of all sorts; golfing at many local courses.

About Linda Wood

Hello—I’m Linda Wood. I grew up in Muskegon and have worked in the real estate business for over 30-years. Remodeling and managing have been my primary talents. The two Cherry House properties are my only weekly rentals. It has been a great deal of fun for all of us involved in the preparation and maintenance of this unique and marvelous property.

Linda Wood purchased this house in 1999

Why Linda Wood chose Muskegon

I had managed this property and knew the area. I realized it would make a perfect vacation property since it is so close to Lake Michigan.

What makes this house unique

Historic - Summer home of Buster Keaton and other vaudeville notables - walk to Lake Michigan, Pere Marquette Beach - largest public beach on Lake Michigan - absolutely beautiful sunsets - only deep water port on Lake Michigan - observe large boats and sailing vessels entering Muskegon Lake - Great Fun

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The house is clean & has all the basics. Julie is friendly and warm. We would stay here again. (written by daughter)

I "ditto" my daughter who wrote the above comment. We enjoyed staying in this quaint house and the fact that it was CLEAN. Julie is perfect for giving a warm feeling to visitors. Hope to visit again. My husband agrees.

This was a last minute vacation and the home was available. It is a very cute house with lots of room and decorated very nicely. I felt right at home. It was close to the beach at Lake Michigan and we walked there several times. It was easy to get to and a perfect location between White Lake and Grand Haven., We loved the fact that there was a fire pit in the back yard and sat outside and enjoyed the cool weather, a bottle of wine and a great fire. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay...I hope to do it again real soon!

Perfect for our extended family

  • 4 of 5
Rented both sides of this duplex for a week late July/early Aug for 13 family members 6-65 years old. Love, love, love this place!! It is perfect for an active family. Love, love, love the adjoining backyards and firepits!! Used every night! Thanks for GENEROUS supply of wood! Houses are very, very clean, roomy with plenty of linens, kitchen utensils, pots & pans etc. We eat in every night and had plenty of room for 6 more visiting family members. House set up is a little unconventional: no restroom on main floor. Access to restrooms up or down steep flight of steps. Property and house are older and not so highly groomed that you are walking on eggshells the whole time. Management very responsive: washer leaked on day #3 and repairman showed up in 3 hours to fix. Only issue: wiring in older house can't tolerate overload (coffee maker & our electric kettle at the same time Lol). Originally from this area, we LOVE beach, channel, farmers' market. Love this property! Thanks Linda!

Awesome rental which made it an excellent summer!

  • 5 of 5
GREAT vacation rental! We rented the cozy and quaint Cherry street house for 10 weeks! It was a great place to stay. It felt as if we were at home the entire time due to the amenities. The response by the owner, Linda, and her caretakers was EXCELLENT! They were very responsive to our needs when something arose that needed attention. We were very close to the beach which we walked to on a daily basis for sunbathing, dinners and exercise. The neighbors were extremely nice saying "hi" everyday and asking us how our stay was. It felt very safe, as if the neighbors were looking out for us. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice quaint Muskegon summer rental. Would definitely stay again. Thanks for the memories!!

Four Weeks during Christmas

  • 4 of 5
Quaint neighborhood full of history! Weather was unseasonably warm for december which warranted many walks in the dunes and on the beach. What impressed me the most was that everything was furnished ... A months worth of toilet paper and laundry detergent for the washer and dryer. All the cookware and utensils you could possibly need and china to feed an army. Nice cookware too!
The house was full of antiques. My son and I stayed here four weeks during the holidays and on Christmas Eve the entire neighborhood lit the sidewalks with luminarires and there was christmas carolers the Saturday before Christmas. A great place to stay year around.

relaxing vacation

  • 4 of 5
Quaint, older home in fairly quiet neighborhood. Very well maintained house. Great location near 2 beautiful beaches (Lake Muskegon and Lake Michigan). Can walk easily to both. Enjoyed using the fire pit and grill every day. Went for a nice bike ride using bikes in garage. Saw amazing sunsets. Our dog enjoyed the backyard too. Owner was easily available for any assistance. Very relaxing time. However we found Muskegon generally to be a very desolate area (very few stores, businesses, restaurants, etc). Too bad -- it has a lot of potential because of the 2 lakes but it is not thriving.

Owner's Response: The beautifully stunning area of west Michigan is what draws tourists. We are home to some of the most highly rated beaches in the world. Ten years ago we had a covered mall in the downtown district. It was torn down when the Lakes Mall took over as the area shopping destination. Our downtown district is in the process of revitalization. Again, I encourage travelers to use the Chamber of Commerce Muskegon website to locate points of interest, shopping, restaurants and much, much more. We also leave our contact numbers for all guests should they need assistance.

Quaint and clean

  • 4 of 5
Listing description was very accurate. Home is quite old as are furnishings. However all are very well maintained and clean. Owner is extremely helpful and available to answer all questions. Neighborhood is ok. House is conveniently located within walking distance of both Lake Muskegon and Lake Michigan. Loved the outdoor grill and fire pit. Used both daily. Our dog enjoyed the backyard too.
If you are only interested in spending time together, walking to really nice beaches, seeing great sunsets, then this place is well-suited for you. If you want an area that has lots of shopping, restaurants, lively downtown, then find another area. We found Muskegon to be very desolate.

Owner's Response: Chamber of Commerce website is a terrific place for a traveler to locate points of interest. This web page address is located in all our rental agreements. The site lists shopping, restaurants, golf, entertainment and much more. The towns of Grand Haven (south) and Whitehall (north) have small downtown districts. These towns are a 20-minute drive from the cottage. Muskegon has the Lakes Mall at Sternberg Road exit on I96. Baker Culinary College located in the heart of Muskegon has a wonderful and affordable restaurant open to the public. We have several small boutique shops scattered throughout the downtown area. In addition, Lakeside has a small shopping district. Guests come to enjoy the beautiful beaches, water and sunsets.
