Vallecito Lake House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Mountain Serenity - Near Vallecito Lake-Home Comforts in the Mountains! Come enjoy our cozy mountain retreat near the village of Vallecito, Colorado. Sit in front of the roaring fireplace or by the warm wood-burning stove while planning your choice of fun activities. Vallecito Lake is one of Colorado's largest and most beautiful lakes. Vallecito (pronounced 'vy-ya-see-toe') is only 23 miles northeast of Durango. The beautiful recreational area offers year-round enjoyment for the entire family.

The home is well furnished with delightful rustic mountain decor and charming antiques. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and there is a large dining table for great family meals. Games and puzzles are provided, as well as informational brochures about local points of interest and activities. There are 4 bedrooms with beds for 10 (1 king, 2 queens and 2 fulls) and 2 bathrooms. If you just can’t leave the modern world behind, high-speed wireless internet and Direct TV are provided free of charge. Cell phone coverage is strong.

Vallecito means “little valley”, and, as the name suggests, the village of Vallecito is nestled between two mountain ridges on the shores of Vallecito Lake. Vallecito has several eateries and small stores. The Pine (Piños) and Vallecito Rivers flow from the Weminuche Wilderness into Vallecito Lake.

The mountain and lake scenery is stunning. Grimes Creek and the Vallecito River are ¼ mile away from the house, and Vallecito Lake is a 1/2 mile to the south. Great fishing can be found at the lake, Pine (Pinos) River & Vallecito River, as well as many local streams. Access to the lake is free and open to recreation of all types. You can even rent a pontoon boat & fishing gear at one of the two local Marinas. Fishing is excellent with many game fish including Trout, Salmon, and Northern Pike.

If four-wheeling is your thing, there are miles & miles of off road trails to explore. You will find even more miles of hiking trails following our two rivers into the San Juan National Forest and the Weminuche Wilderness with over 2.5 million acres of public lands with many 13,000+ and 14,000+ peaks that you can explore.

Ride the '1880's' Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, or visit Mesa Verde Anasazi Ruins, visit Silverton’s Mining Town, or soak in the healing hot water in Pagosa Springs, shop or see a movie in historic Durango. Enjoy a day in the quaint town of Ouray, America’s Little Switzerland, or spend a relaxing summer evening at the Bar-D Chuckwagon supper and show. There are excellent golf courses, numerous museums and of course... the scenic million dollar highway.

There are just as many winter activities such as Snowmobiling, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing Downhill/Alpine/Nordic Skiing or a Dinner Sleigh Ride at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) and nearby ski areas. The house is not “ski-in/ski-out”. The house is about 1 hour from Durango Mountain Resort and 1 ½ hours from Wolf Creek Ski Resort.

We think our mountain home is a peaceful refuge from our busy world. We’re sure you’ll agree!

We honeymooned in the Durango area 20 years ago and have been in love with the area every since. Our three kids love the mountains year round, too. We enjoy the winters with skiing and snowboarding by day and puzzles, hot chocolate and roaring fires by night! The summers are spent hiking, biking and enjoying the beauty of the mountains as much as possible!

When we started looking for vacation homes in the area, this is the first house we looked at and it was love at first sight! The house has unique charm and character. In addition, the setting is so picturesque! Waking up to the beautiful mountains is an awesome way to start the day. We love that the hiking trails, rivers and lake are so close.

Staying here is peaceful and relaxing. The place doesn't feel like a rental - it feels like home. It is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of today's busy world!

SERENITY TO THE FULLEST

  • 5 of 5
I saw the house pop up on the dates I was looking for and fell in love with it immediately, I sent a email to the owners and was contacted within a few minutes about the dates I had inquired about, made my reservations and received directions to the "T" of how to get to the house, when my party of 9 arrived we were all amazed that this is a rental it is gorgeous and I would make my percent home, it's very cozy and has the warm home feeling not like a typical cabin that your iffy about staying in! The house has everything you need just bring your clothes and tooth brush! It's very quit and in a perfect setting we took our RZRs with us and left right from the house the owner gave us some ideas of were to go and they were perfect and our kids loved it the whole time from the deer in the yard at night and morning it was a experience that my family won't soon forget!!! We look forward to staying again in the near future! Thank you Cameron

The property looks exactly like the pictures which is to say extremely nice. The views from the property were spectacular! Unfortunately for us the weather was somewhat unseasonably cold for the time of year we went so fishing was too cold on the lake. The restaurants (the owner provided recommendations) that were still open for business in the Fall were very good. We suspect that the summertime in Vallecito is a fun and happening place! Our only challenge with the property was not quite enough bathrooms for our family of six. We prefer at least 2 1/2 baths.

GET-A-WAY

We were really expecting a nice place, but it wasn't just nice, it was a perfect place to stay. The kitchen was so easily used, we ate at least 2 meals a day at the house. We would be out and about and decide lets go back to the house so we can eat and relax and enjoy a fire in the fireplace. Kent and Anita have the home to where you feel right at home. Loved every minute of our trip thanks to them and their amazing home.

FAMILY WEEKEND FUN

  • 5 of 5
My family (8 adults and 2 small grandchildren) rented this fabulous cabin. The place and furnishings were incredible. Not to mention the setting in the beautiful mountains. We rented 4 wheelers and had such a great time there in Vallecito Lake. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone thinking of spending time there.

This is a wonderful rental. My family sure enjoyed our vacation, there was 10 of us and we had so much room. Kent and Anita make the process so easy to reserve the rental. Kay the housekeeper was so friendly and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your property with us, we will definitely be back. Mary Ormsby

FANTASTIC PLACE

  • 5 of 5
This house is beautiful and very well decorated. Nice quiet neighborhood and centrally located to all the activities in the area. Very quick trip to Durango and all it has to offer as well and don't fail to ride the Durango-Silverton Train. Small town atmosphere in the mountains but plenty to do and some of the best restaurants we've been to in a while. Don't miss Vallecito Lake Country Market for the Mexican food (seriously) and Pura Vida Café for the lake views and excellent food as well. Play Bingo at the Blue Spruce RV Park on Thursday's for a time you won't forget and take an ATV up Middle Mountain Road and all the trails. My kids called it "Sound of Music Beautiful"! This is a fun place to go and the best accommodations in the area. Owners are very easy to deal with and their caretaker is so nice and accommodating. Incredible vacation all around and we hope to be back. Thanks for the memories!
