Mountain Serenity - Near Vallecito Lake-Home Comforts in the Mountains! Come enjoy our cozy mountain retreat near the village of Vallecito, Colorado. Sit in front of the roaring fireplace or by the warm wood-burning stove while planning your choice of fun activities. Vallecito Lake is one of Colorado's largest and most beautiful lakes. Vallecito (pronounced 'vy-ya-see-toe') is only 23 miles northeast of Durango. The beautiful recreational area offers year-round enjoyment for the entire family.
The home is well furnished with delightful rustic mountain decor and charming antiques. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and there is a large dining table for great family meals. Games and puzzles are provided, as well as informational brochures about local points of interest and activities. There are 4 bedrooms with beds for 10 (1 king, 2 queens and 2 fulls) and 2 bathrooms. If you just can’t leave the modern world behind, high-speed wireless internet and Direct TV are provided free of charge. Cell phone coverage is strong.
Vallecito means “little valley”, and, as the name suggests, the village of Vallecito is nestled between two mountain ridges on the shores of Vallecito Lake. Vallecito has several eateries and small stores. The Pine (Piños) and Vallecito Rivers flow from the Weminuche Wilderness into Vallecito Lake.
The mountain and lake scenery is stunning. Grimes Creek and the Vallecito River are ¼ mile away from the house, and Vallecito Lake is a 1/2 mile to the south. Great fishing can be found at the lake, Pine (Pinos) River & Vallecito River, as well as many local streams. Access to the lake is free and open to recreation of all types. You can even rent a pontoon boat & fishing gear at one of the two local Marinas. Fishing is excellent with many game fish including Trout, Salmon, and Northern Pike.
If four-wheeling is your thing, there are miles & miles of off road trails to explore. You will find even more miles of hiking trails following our two rivers into the San Juan National Forest and the Weminuche Wilderness with over 2.5 million acres of public lands with many 13,000+ and 14,000+ peaks that you can explore.
Ride the '1880's' Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, or visit Mesa Verde Anasazi Ruins, visit Silverton’s Mining Town, or soak in the healing hot water in Pagosa Springs, shop or see a movie in historic Durango. Enjoy a day in the quaint town of Ouray, America’s Little Switzerland, or spend a relaxing summer evening at the Bar-D Chuckwagon supper and show. There are excellent golf courses, numerous museums and of course... the scenic million dollar highway.
There are just as many winter activities such as Snowmobiling, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing Downhill/Alpine/Nordic Skiing or a Dinner Sleigh Ride at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) and nearby ski areas. The house is not “ski-in/ski-out”. The house is about 1 hour from Durango Mountain Resort and 1 ½ hours from Wolf Creek Ski Resort.
