I am originally from Vancouver Canada, I relocated to La Paz in 2005 and quickly immersed myself in volunteer activities. I am married to a wonderful local man and love my life! While here you will enjoy your privacy and will want to return, many times over.
Dhorea Ryon purchased this house in 2003
I purchased my home in La Paz in 1999 and added the spacious casita in 2008. I found the city to be extremely clean and safe. I love the climate.
Sun, sun and more sun and a variety activities that will keep you as busy as you want to be.
I felt that Dhorea wants her guests to feel the love that is in this casita. My husband and I are still here and appreciating every last moment in this very special place. We will be here 6 weeks and could have stayed longer! The casita is close enough to the malecon and all the "in town" activities, yet far enough away (15 - 20 min) so that we enjoyed our privacy and our own little tranquil place. We sit in the living room or front yard and listen to the waves at night - magical. (Admittedly, we also take advantage of the English speaking cable TV!)We so thoroughly enjoyed taking the private, outside steps to our very own viewing patio on top of the casita! One can bring a picnic up there - there's a place to sit and eat or lay on the chaise(s), just rest, read or bring your art materials! Star gazing took my breath away, amazing. The showers are phenomenal - great pressure and my tall husband can stand straight under both of them! The décor/ambience is much more than a picture can provide. The shaded porch outside the master bedroom is a lovely place to sit, meditate and appreciate the garden view. EVERYTHING you might need is in this charming place. I could tell you about the kayaks, (great!), the walks along the bay, peaceful, and so many other things we have experienced, but for the price, you WILL NOT find anything comparable! We can't believe it isn't more expensive. Dhorea, your host, is one of a kind. I could go on about how delightful she is but you have to experience her intuitive way of being available and so thoughtful yet not intrusive in any way. She was extremely helpful BEFORE we arrived and when we had some difficulties with our car rental and arrived very, very late, she came into town so that we wouldn't even have to locate our place... we just followed her! She is a real vacation gift! And her "helpers" Dora and Daniel ... also wonderful! Even if she hires other people I am sure they will be as terrific as those who are here now.
I have used VRBO for years in many other places and the "Little House" is one of the very best!
Thank you Dhorea.
First of all, I don't have anything negative to say about this casita. My month long stay there in Feb. 2015 couldn't have been better. Dhorea is a thoughtful owner and was quick to take care of anything. The fenced yard was perfect for my dog. I could just let her out in the morning and not have to worry. This casita has two en-suite bedroom/baths. There is a king bed in one bedroom and a full with a twin in the other room. There is Canadian cable TV with many channels, lot's of DVD's and a good selection of books. The rooftop deck has comfortable loungers too. I enjoyed several gatherings with the "neighbors" in the casita's next door. We had several outdoor dinners with Margarita cooking for us. This casita is not located in La Paz, but north about 6 miles, so you do need a car. When locating the casita, you actually drive onto the beach. There are three more 2 bed/2bath casita's next door if you had a large group and all wanted to stay near each other. Dhorea has also done an excellent job with a notebook that gives you all the information on the local restaurants, things to do/see and a history and facts about the area. There are sea kayak's to use too. These casita's are popular, plan to reserve a year in advance!
Had a two bedroom casita, with two full baths...All the kitchen needs, totally furnished, use of kayaks, a great quite location right on the beach...Super views of La Paz in the evening...Also some great sunrises...The owner is on site and a true professional...Always willing to help with any questions and any needs we had...This was a real plus for us...The pools were pretty great also...We liked this area and casita so much we made our booking for 2016...Cant wait to get back to this casita next year....!!!
We spent a lovely month in this sweet little casita. It is equipped with everything you need and very comfortable. The owners are extremely hospitable and very helpful with any requests. The use of the kayaks is a bonus as there is easy access to the the beach. La Paz is a short distance away by car offering local culture and cuisine. We would highly recommend spot for your next vacation.
We just got back from spending a fantastic week away from everything. We are a family that works together, so finding some down time was essential. The cassita provided a quiet, private space for us, and with La Paz being so close, we were able to immerse ourselves in a true Mexican experience. The Malecon is great and we also really loved Tecolate. The property is fully equipped with everything you need, and Dhorea is a super hostess. Would highly recommend!
We spent four months at Dhorea's Little House on the Beach and thoroughly loved our stay. The views of the bay are beautiful, especially at sunrise and during the night. Great star watching from the roof top deck. Dhorea strives to keep the casita fully stocked with everything you could possible need during your stay. The fenced in yard was great for our dog, he felt right at home and enjoyed his "guard dog" duties, not that they were needed. This neighborhood is extremely safe and secure. Since we're right on the beach, it can get noisy when there's a party on the beach. This really only occurred a few Saturday nights. On Sunday afternoons the beach is full of Mexican families and their children playing; that was our favorite time! Loved having the washing machine readily available for our use. Favorite eats in town: Iguanas Pizza in El Centenario and Big Joe's BBQ and The Shack in La Paz. If you like yoga, be sure and visit Jimena at Thriving Yoga in El Centenario; she's an excellent instructor and offers wonderful massages and facials as well. Highly recommend a boat trip to Espiritu Santos. Favorite beach: Tecolote, it's a drive from the casita but we though worth the trip. If you go, be sure and eat at La Concha (when facing the beach from the parking lot, they're the furthest restaurant on the right). Lupita makes some incredible ceviche and she can also set you up for a trip to Espiritu.

From San Jose (Cabo)
The airport is located in Cabo San Jose NOT Cabo San Lucas. There are 2 ways to get to La Paz. One way is going thru Los Barriles. This is a winding highway. The other way is to drive thru San Jose to Cabo and then drive towards Todos Santos and onto La Paz. It is 4 lane half way. You can easily and safely stop in Todos santos for lunch or dinner. It is only 45 min to La Paz from TS. You want to make sure you are not going to drive in the dark and if you do so watch for cows, goats etc. Whichever way you come will take you to center point that leads into la Paz.
You will be on a 6 lane highway and as you get closer, traffic becomes heavier. Watch on your left for a large rust coloured University UABCS. A short while later you will come to a majr intersection. Turn left here. Turn left again at the next major intersection (Walmart and Home Depot will mark this intersection. Stay in your left lane, go up over an overpass and go straight.
IF YOU GET MIXED UP DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK FOR HELP. PEOPLE ARE GREAT. TELL THEM YOU ARE GOING TO CENTENARIO. ASK TO USE THERE PHONE (OFFER THEM 10 OR 20 PESOS) MOST WON'T TAKE IT
From La Paz Centro
You pass the entrance to airport...keep going straight. You will go thru Chametla and finally Centenario. As you come to the far side of Centenario, you will see a Pemex where you are forced to go left or right (attached to the Pemex is the Ardilla restaurant) Stay RIGHT for 1 block, turn right at the first paved road, go straight until you can turn at the first gravel road (there are handmade signs for restaurants and hotels) Turn right at this gravel road, proceed 2 streets until you see Calle 2, turn left and proceed to the beach. On your right you will see the little house on the beach. It is beige. Tel 612 128 8235 or cell 612 137 1463. See you soon! You are looking foor the Col Comitan
You are safe in La Paz. Don't hesitate to call if you are lost or concerned. Ask the rental for a map to get to La Paz and a La Paz map.
