About Russ Millard

We operative a family business in the development and management of a variety of housing alternatives, from luxury homes to affordable senior housing. We develop properties in the Pacific Northwest and Idaho. We have been in the land development industry for three generations.

Russ Millard purchased this house in 2003

Why Russ Millard chose Covington

Our family purchased this home and just love to spend time here. But we have an active family and are not able to be here all the time and want to allow others the same opportunity. We have a family business devoted to providing house alternatives.

What makes this house unique

This property is unique. It is magical to sit in front of the fireplace reading a book and watch the sunrise. Then catch a fish right of the lake side or just relax in the rope swing. Then take the Kayak or your jet skis around the lake then to return to roast marshmallows on the fire pit. This is the relaxed life you deserve.

A quick note to let you know how much I enjoyed staying at your Lake Sawyer cabin. Everything I needed or even thought about needing was readily available. The lake view was fantastic. So enjoyed watching the geese, ducks, birds and other wildlife. Activities available were marvelous from the air hockey and other games and books to the kayak for enjoying a peaceful ride on the lake. Thanks again for the opportunity to enjoy a special time of relaxation and fun. VB

Fantastic Winter Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent the week before Christmas at this lovely home on Lake Sawyer. The views were spectacular, the lakefront yard was incredible, and the home was beautifully appointed. We were able to entertain our friends and family here with the space of the home and parking it was ideal. Our kids loved the tree swing, feeding the ducks and squirrels, and the game area upstairs. The home was decorated for Christmas for us to celebrate with our family. All of the beds were very comfortable, the linens were superb, and the kitchen had everything we needed for holiday cooking for a week. We love the smore's makings that were there to greet us when we arrived to cook over the firepit. Santa even came by boat to give the kids candy cane's We absolutely love this house for any season and will definitely return soon!

Great location, flexible owners

  • 4 of 5

This home could easily be amazing, but we had a mix of good and bad during our stay.. all in all the owners did everything they could to make it right and we appreciate that.

For us the home was smaller than it appeared online with 4 rooms/bedrooms, the last of which was recently converted from a garage. While there are extra beds, the size of the common areas would make it difficult for more than one family to stay comfortably. This home is the guest house to the main house next door that rents for around twice as much. Our biggest disappointment was upon arrival and the home had not been cleaned, floors dirty with food spills in the kitchen, dining room and used soap and wash cloths in the shower. I spent half the first day cleaning and would've thought someone was still living there, shoes in the closet etc. The owners apologized and explained they had tried a different cleaning crew and we came to an agreement on compensation.

Much of the home is older and in need of more updating, the kitchen and accessories especially, some worn furniture, carpet and peeling wallpaper etc. The tree swing outside was a favorite but the tree is obviously dead and I wonder when it'll become a hazard. Old food and used toiletries need to be removed in my opinion. While the main bedroom has beautiful views and large windows you have to use plywood covered with stapled sheets to block out the light. One of which regularly falls down. This all was very unexpected for the weekly price point.

The location for us though was perfect, directly in between my family members homes, the house a much better option than the local hotels, about 45 mins to Seattle... I would've appreciated a welcome packet explaining the rules of the lake and things like grocery stores. For example, we rented jetskis and they gave my 14yo a permit, after being stopped by the boat police, we found out that Lake Sawyer has a 16 year and over requirement for personal watercraft.

When I thought of this vacation more like camping, all the little things didn't matter. The lake was absolutely beautiful, my kids liked feeding the baby ducks and using the kayaks, there's a nice mix of games and movies to use, wifi and netflix. We really had a great trip and overall enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Our “tried-and-true’ cleaners had a significant family tragedy and were unable to perform. I refunded the entire cleaning fee and paid for the cleaning after they left. Please view the new YouTube video it accurately portrays the great quality and abundant living space of the house, with its four bedrooms, the loft with extra sleeping space, dining for 12 and more. Our family with married children and grandkids stays there often, and the 12 of us fit just fine. As far as additional common area, we just received a permit to build a large covered deck area that will allow us to have an additional conversation area, with a solid wall on the end that will accommodate another new flat screen TV. There will be room for a ping pong table and barbecue area. This year we updated the home significantly. The garage was in fact converted to accommodate a formal entry and hall with a large bedroom with three beds and French doors that open to the lake. We put in new appliances, a new 55” flat screen TV, and new carpet and fixtures upstairs and in the garage area for the new room. The leather sofa and leather chair are only two years old. In the master bedroom with the best view we had an interior designer make window panels for us, as we could not find a vender that could make black-out shades for the uniquely shaped 6-foot-wide oval sunburst window. They, in fact, work exceptionally well, without them you wake up at dawn. The carpet in the majority of the house is new this year. The only exception is the great room carpet it is a burber that holds up better than the new plush carpet when it is wet. There is a high volume of water tracked in from the lake, and that causes the carpet to stretch. We re-stretch it every year, but it does pull away at certain areas depending upon the water saturation. We have not found another flooring option that is as non-slip or durable. To be accurate, the only wall paper in the house is a single 6” boarder against the ceiling in one of the bathrooms. My daughter installed it as a school project; it will be removed when she is gone away to school. We have an updated welcome binder with all the Lake and City rules, house and appliance instructions and amenities and area referrals. Every year we make improvements to the property and hope that we can create the ideal vacation location. There are always more we can and will continue to do to upgrade the property.

Perfect for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family recently rented this cabin over the Thanksgiving holiday. We were amazed with the incredible views of the lake. The grandchildren enjoyed the swings at the waters' edge and playing on the beach. The canoe and kyak got quite a workout touring the beautiful lake and the islands. Making smores over the carefully prepared firepit was a highlight. The cabin also has a fooshball table as well as air hockey, which we all enjoyed. We had a very relaxing and memorable vacation there and will definitely return. Thank you too, Russ, for your patience with all my phone calls while working out our arrangements. I would definitely recommend this rental home for a quiet getaway, beautiful view and activities to partake in.

Charming Lakefront Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home, in addition to the larger property next door, for a group traveling from the Spokane area for a basketball tournament. This home is absolutely charming and the kids really liked the game room upstairs. The views of the lake are fabulous and all the linens and beds were super comfy and luxurious. Russ was excellent to work with and we'd love to return at a future opportunity.

Wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a family reunion. There was plenty to do for people of all ages. The kids loved swimming in the lake, the teenagers enjoyed the kayaks, ping pong and air hockey. We adults loved the beautiful view of the lake, the outdoor grill and the comfortable beds. The owners were great. We will definitely be back!

A wonderful Girls Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Some girlfriends and I booked this lovely house for our annual Girls Weekend. If your are looking for something with a beautiful view and lots of sleeping space this is the house you want! There were only 5 of us but we could have easily invited 3 more and still had room to spare. The view of Lake Sawyer from the living room and bedrooms upstairs was spectacular. There is lots of shopping close by and we had a wonderful time exploring the area. The owner was very quick to respond to any and all of our inquiries and was more than helpful. The house and surroundings are well kept. I would highly recommend this property and I have a strong feeling we will be returning in the future. I can imagine how wonderful this place would be in the Summer. Thanks again for letting us enjoy your lovely home.
